  • just bought a used large one on Ebay for 32 bucks, free shipping, theres lots of them on there FYI

  • Thank you for this video! Im jsut wondering, myself and a few friends are planning a 2 week bacpacking/hiking trip and im trying to find a cost effective bag basically, i dont have the money for a professional expedition bag, so i was thinking aboutpicking up a large alice pack, would yo recommend it for such an outting and would it be comfortable enough to perform on such a long trip? thanks a bunch

  • @ROBM1093 yes it definently will because I was able to pack some really bulky clothes in my medium for deer hunting (enough that I was warm sitting while it was snowing) so the large will do what you want

  • Thanks for the review. I have been looking for the info on the diferent size packs and you hit it right on!

  • Good shit bro, exactly what I was looking for. Thanks.

  • what is the alice pack medium rucsack volume in liters ?

  • dude dude dude Your awesome thanks for the info... now i'm definitely going for the large alice pack and also i didnt know that MRE's were that big

  • Are the Alice packs waterproof? I was thinking about getting a large for deer hunting. can it handle bulkier clothing for winter hunting?

  • @ROBM1093 Not sure about the waterproofing, but if you want to store bulkier clothes then go with the large.

  • Get large Alice for survival sitiuations. but in city,The urban situations medium comes much handy. Somehow From our real experiences....The Medium alicepacked hippy guys got laid much more than guys who carries large one. It's the fact . LOL

  • thanks for making these pack vids i really enjoy them. i went with the large alice

  • Thanks for the vid, sir , exactly what I was looking for, comparisons .

  • I love that I can search "medium vs large ALICE pack" and somebody has made a video for exactly that! Thank you internets...

  • @survivalistboards Would the medium work well if it was for a week, but you didnt need to have food, tent, ammo, etc... and instead just some clothes and and maybe a few odds and ends? A sleeping bag would also be nice come to think of it.

  • I just got a large Alice pack and was disappointed to see a tag inside saying made in china. Also it’s not as big as I thought it was going to be.

  • @ROBM1093 yeash there are Chinese made copies are around all over. It looks cleaner than used one & loos the same . They made Midium sized alice packs so, just be carefull.

  • how many liter or cid is a medium alice

  • I'm sure some Chinese company counterfeits military ALICE packs, but iv never seen one...

  • thx a lot, bro... this vid helped me a lot in my decision which pack to buy....

    greeetz from Germany

  • Are there any fake alice packs out there? the material of my alice pack seems very thin

  • @zmanlip yeah sadly there is, is your pack new? and does it say usa or anything in the inside?

  • @TheXJthatCould it says US on the front flap and directions on how to clean it on the inside flap. the part against the frame says field pack, combat, nylon and a bunch of other stuff. im guessing its legit but wasnt issued for a reason. frayed stitches, only 2/3 big pouches can have stuff wedged between them and the pack, stuff like that

  • @zmanlip yeah its legit got a good pack :D

  • What is that weather resistant bag that you put your sleeping bag in? Is it USGI or something you found elsewhere?

  • good

  • I agree with Dustin .... About the cloths who care about smell when u are in the survival situation

  • I've never understood why people need a 4000 cubic inch ruck filled to the brim with crap to sustain them for only 3 days.

I've managed to fit all the contents of my 5 day Bug out bag into the medium one, with room to spare.

You aren't going to be changing clothes every ten minutes people, it's OKAY to smell when you're out in the wild.

  • those are nice Alice packs. i just ordered a CFP 90 Field Pack with a internal frame. it is alittle bigger and also has a patrol bag that is removable. it also has a spot for a 4 in 1 sleep system. great bag for any one who likes to hunt, camp, hike or is a great bug out bag

  • Great videos, thank you.

  • I'm thinking of buying an Alice pack for work but wasn't sure whether the medium would be big enough, thanks to your video I have a better idea of what I want

    Cheers

  • Great video! i just ordered a large used alice pack for boyscouts.

I chose a large because of all the gear boyscouts requires on camping trips which is unfortunate and an annoying to me because i tend to be a minimalist but i cannot wait to see the pack..im psyced!

  • verry god man

  • i like your set up however as a small suggestion for packing is that you should try to but everthing vertical/up right so that you do not need to dig threw you stuff. it makes every thing much more faster and easy saves time and calories very good for when its emergencys for egample if you get wet in the winter you need to throw on dry close

  • @TheRickIRL yeah but it takes up a bit of weight and alot of space when you think about it.

  • Question, I am interested in a Medium Alice pack. But I was wondering if there were any bags out there that are Military tough with Molle webbing WITH an external frame? I am short and I am afraid without the external frame the weight (which will be a decent amount) will bare on my shoulders and cause bruising, so I am mostly interested in external but my drawback is I can't find one that is military tough with Molle (so I can add attachments etc.) Anyone?

  • i am a 64 pattern and a 82 pattern guy but this pack seems pretty cool

  • very good job comparing

  • dont they have medium frameless alice packs?

  • Add alice web combat gear to that and properly equip yourself you would be good to go, personally I would get rid if the stove, add my own camelbak and a 2qt opposite of yours and a 1qt on the web gear, add sleeper straps to the bottom of the pack and a buckled buttpack to the center with water resistant pouches on the sides of that. Hmm time to start putting together a list

  • Great video, I've carried this pack throughout my career and I love it. One thing I just wanted to point out that may be of some use is that there is a large pocket in the main comp. flap. There are two tabs on the edge of the flap that open the pocket.

  • Versatility, reliability Ducati would have sounded better CBR. LOL! good stuff.

  • Why people don't use a good hiking backpack is beyond me. They are designed to carry a ton of stuff and remain comfortable at the same time. You're using military issue packs?? Isn't that the same organization that didn't bother properly gearing our troops in Iraq?? Certainly they don't give a rats arse about a packs comfort. :P

  • @cybanva their current packs are VERY good, i think designed by arcteryx and made by propper.

  • what type of tent?

  • I did 42 days out my large Alice, I've only done 6 days out of the med.

not to say you can't but it would be tight. Field strip those MREs and make more room. good vid bro.

  • Is there a proper and improper way to wear an alice pack.

  • Retrofitting a Molle II waist belt and shoulder straps made the pack much more comfortable and feel lighter. At least do the waist belt. I paid $12 each for brand new in the plastic, $24. There's photo's on the web to help with the conversion and it is easy once you 'get' it. The freeze dried guy sells an even better suspension system, but it's $75.

Instead of MRE's, pack mostly freeze dried and dehydrated with some MRE's. In a large ALICE one can then go for 7 days for the same wieght.

  • HUH, you rock pal... I wish my father was more like you.(sadly I haven't met him yet)

Keep it up, you're vids are great(and so is the large ALICE, except for the shoulder straps lol)

  • I have and NEVER used a more uncomfrontable pack in my life. But I guess my was used for field exercises, LOL. Glad you like it.

    cheers

  • Help. I'm looking into buying a new and improved frame for my large alice pack. found two very nice frames both run about $250, the N.I.C.E frame or the Aruc frame. Anyone have any knowledge or experience. thanks

  • how does it compare to a "real" backpack? My normal one just broke down, some flimsy piece of crappy plastic broke. (Hoping to avoid that by buying army stuff lol) i could get a new one for 30€ including the frame, is it worth it? Or will it just sit in my basement for being heavy and low-tech?

  • Best advice for ALICE use... UPGRADE the shoulder straps and hip strap to MOLLE at least, if not one of the aftermarket better upgrade (really pricey though). Otherwise ALICE is my pack of choice for versatility, durability, configurability and affordability.

  • Dude you rock perfect video and well needed.

  • I just poicked up a meduim alice pack without the frame and straps for 5 bucks! found the straps for 5 bucks now im lookin for the framw lol

  • what do you use the buckshot for if you dont have a shotgun with you. or is that just for when you do.

  • with the large allice where is a good place to get one and i like the packs with one large compartment and pockets on the outside so i can role my bed mat inside the pocket like a frame in the pack can you do this with the large alice pack. When i order one do i have to worry about fakes or anything? thanks

  • This may explain some of the compliants.

I've read that the frames were made for someone about 70" taller. Much shorter or much taller and the frame doesn't fit.

  • Thanks for the review. Was looking for problems with the large pack and am now sold on it. For $25.00 used, it's too inexpensive not to try. The extra capacity will allow room for lighter wieght cold weather clothing that the medium pack doesn't have space for.

  • @InTheSticks1881

Hi im Jake and im 12 and in boy scouts i saw the $25 alice pack on J and a discount military surplus. Im hooked on it and think its the best deal. I also have a pistol belt and canteen and want to get the complete set (butt pack, ammo pouches, and suspenders). I just want to know if the alice pack is good for boy scouts. Im also addicted to the military.

  • @MrJn889 A medium Alice pack with frame for $25 would be the best pack for the money one could buy and last decades . It may not, however be comfortable to wear if you are much shorter than about 5'6". Pack only 1/3 of your wieght. If the harness is uncomfortable, modern versions taken from the MOLLIE pack can be retro fitted and can be found for about $15.

  • @InTheSticks1881 where can you find these things for so cheap? i havent found any surplus stores that sells things like this. and th websites seem to be a bit more expensive. any advice would help buddy.

  • Yeah, I'm a Boy Scout and both my father and I have bought large ones over Ebay. I'm quite excited to use it for the first time at a camp over the weekend! It is a little bit big on me, but it has more than enough room for everything that I need.

  • If you don't mind a little discomfort the medium can take you through 3 days easy. And an entire week with a creative mind.

We did a 4 day when I was in Boot Camp. Not the easiest thing to do. Not very comfortable. But Marines aren't interested in that. :-)

  • @SkivMarine - Comfort is all in how you make it out in the field, I have lived out of a medium for weeks on end. I loved the field.

  • As 0122358 said, break down your MRE's, it saves space and weight. Also, put the SAME size canteen on both sides to better balance the load, a 1qt on one side and a 2qt on the other is unbalanced. Also, put the Sleeping bag on the bottom, it rides better whether its a medium or a large. I've walked many a mile with a either size on my back.

  • Very helpful! Thanks for posting this! You seem like a cool, humble guy. Video was very informative. Keep 'em coming!

  • Hey I have a question in a month or so im doing a 3 day hike on the appalachian trail and were gonna be hiking about 7-8 miles a day what would you recommend? a large or a medium. I have a medium with no frame but if I get a large it will come with one.

  • Large......you'll need the room for this time of year.

  • oh ok good because i bought 1 on ebay about a week ago so should arrive today.

  • There are a lot of Chinese copies out there that will fall apart in no time so because what you buy..Good luck with your trip!

  • thanks and mine was issued and made in the usa so i dont have any major worries

  • make sure you give your alice pack a good coat of scotchguard to keep the water, dirt, and rain out of it. the coating will prevent dirt and sand particles from getting into the weave and making it wear out early too.

  • Thanks for the review. Good to see comparisons.

  • hell i can get 3-5 days out of a medium alice pack. and 7-8 if im careful with my large.

  • i have a large ALICE. i break my MREs down. take out all the cardboard out and anything you wont eat or dont want and you can usually fit about three meals in one MRE bag with the space of one. I carry cold weather sleep-bag on a carrier slung under the pack bottom next to the frame.

  • I'm using my Med. ALICE for school right now. works great. need to get a frame soon though.

  • I have a large alice pack too. That thing is just awesome !

  • I have several packs, from a small tac bag to the CFP-90,all USGI,..All made well...I break down my MRE's to essentials...MRE heaters are great in case of,.. Great vid,..

  • I found that a good internal framed backpack from kelty holds way more then an alice pack, I can haul 6 days of Mountainhouse food plus all my gear and my weight is around 40 lbs. Alice packs were not designed to carry everything you need for more then a couple of days, the Stryker vehicle ( support ) carried your resupply, Where a regular backpack is designed to carry everything you need for upwards of a week.

  • I was a tanker. We carried everything on the tank. I carried 2 duffel bags, medium alice pack, cvc bag. We were never far from the tank for any reason. I would agree a good commercial backpack is way more comfortable but you can find Alice packs cheap. I wouldn't want to carry one for more than a few miles but thats all I need it for.

    Hell On Wheels

  • How much did it cost?

A good U.S. made alice pack will only set you back $25 if you find a good deal.

  • Make sure to get a USGI one....I have both a USGI and Korean one and the USGI one is definitely better made. That being said the Korean one can be used without a frame which is nice when car camping or traveling but you can not pack a large alice and carry it any distance without a frame. I use the Korean one for car camping without a frame and the USGI one on a frame for backpacking..

  • lets say i wanted to buy one at my local surplus store. how much whould one of these run me?

  • a used ones like 15... but a new one can be 30 to 40

  • I love your reviews, fast and to the point.

Why are your MRE's not broken down? Keeping them in their packages takes up more room.

Anyhow, think you for the review, I have a med. AP.

  • The vid on the medium size alice pack showed me things I did not even know about my pack. Thank you!

  • thanks that was helpfull

  • asome i wonder were i could get the 1 man tent

  • Campmor com

I wouldn't recommend them. Get a "Backpacking" 2 or 3 man tent. Then if you get stuck in a rain storm or weather, you won't need to be stuck laying down for possible days. Plus when they are backpacking size, they fold up about the same size, and only weigh about 2 - 6 lbs depending on brand and $ spent.

  • do you know were i could find a copy online to buy of a good survival manual but on waterproof paper for my bug out bag????

  • or find one thats not waterproof, and save space by just reading and memorizing a lot of it

  • whats up,

i was just wanting to ask you if you would know what size water bladder i could put in the top pouch on my medium alice pack. please respond and watch my gear pack review.

    thanks.

  • Probably the standard 2 liter or w/e camelback pouch.

  • We women are not made for carrying this big ones really it is only for men.

  • I never thought of it that way.Which packs are good for women to carry.I am a guy so I swear by the ALICE Pack.

  • i was just think that my self

"**** how am i suppose to carry that?"

  • +10!

Whenever I search on youtube for survival or shtf information I find this guy! and he always has useful videos posted up! great job man!

  • @dandadude102 Sounds like you should go to survivalistboards

    Thats this guys forum.

  • this guy is great!!!!!

  • get the enhanced shoulder straps if you carry a heavy load....35 bucks

  • Can anyone answer me on this question. Is there a small version too, and can I find a picture of it?

  • I don't think "officially", though I saw some aftermarket ones today at the army-navy store, looked like they were for kids and looked pretty nice.

  • thanks

  • i spent 150 on a molle pack that i think is issued by the armmy to radio operaters. its great comes with a cammel back on it verry reliable. alice clips and packs are outdated now though.

  • nice video dude and thanks for the info . simperfi

  • I own a large alice pack and I love it.

  • I have my military back pack and i spent one hundred and got an external frame pack. What a difference. The commercial packs are worth their cost. I rarely use my allis pack if at all.

  • Likewise. I bought a maxpedition pack it was more expensive but I'll never look back or had a problem and it gets used every day for just about everything I do. I had an medium alice pack still have it and used it for like 2 months then traded up and haven't used it since the maxpedition that I got like.... 2 years ago. It's worth the extra money although alice packs are surplus=cheaper and they do the job.

  • are the frames the same ?

  • they both use an l1 fram

  • how much do those alice packs cost?

  • 250-300

  • They dont cost 250-300.

You can get them at most surplus stores for around 40 - 60 Bucks.

  • go to Maine Military .c om and get them WITH frame for $30.

  • They are inexpensive. They are NOT 250-300 dollars. Some people consider them agonizing, some are fond of them and some like myself are indifferent. I used one in the National Guard and for a 2 week trek in the Sawtooth Mountains of Idaho, I consider them less comfortable then civilian rucksacks, but not so much that I would refuse to use one. They are worth the risk of purchase, if you do not like it you can always sell it . My suggestion is any of the Snugpak rucksacks.(120 USD)

  • the new i think its called the molle III ruck is different the plasitc frame scares me im always afraid im going to brake it. because im use to the old school metal frame alice ruck so far so good i go and ruck with the new army molle III ruck every other day 50lbs its different but good comfortable still getting use to it though

  • is buying the frame worth the money?

  • Yes it is. The frame supports the pack more evenly and takes weight off your back. Also dont forget the kidney pad.

  • roger you want a frame if your going to do serious rucking

  • I was a soidier many years ago. The ALICE packs, especially with the frame, are very painful. If you hike/road march for more than few miles, you will reget having this pack. Most of these people that like these packs have never really used them for more than a short hike. I have and wouldn't use one unless I had no other choice. Even though the military issues it, it isn't that great. Remember that governement contracts go to the lowest bidders. You have been warned.

  • black hawk 3 day assault packs are btter

  • the gov saves money ne way they can, they dont care about the pain u guys go through

  • It depends on the person. I love this pack dearly. When I was at Army camp, we were issued these. We went on a 2 week trip, and this pack never let me down.

  • They are by no means a bad pack, but they do leave things to be desired, yet if one is on a budget they will do a fine job. I still have one, however I like my Kelty a lot more. As you said all depends on the person or more specifically they body type involved.

  • I found a medium alice pack for 3.99 and shipping is 7.39. they have like 180 left no straps or frame thou

  • Well done! With the money you saved do yourself a favor and invest in the Blackhawk ALICE straps, they are like 30 dollars from US Cavalry, they are well padded properly shaped and have a sternum strap. far superior to the issued straps.

  • If your a soldier i would suggest a Tactical tailor Large alice Ruck. expensive but well worth the money when your life depends on it. Also i would just keep it simple if you only plan on being out in the field for a few take a 3 day assault pack.

  • What do you think of Maxpedition?

  • what do i think about maxpedition. I have never used it so i wouldnt know how reliable they are i have never seen any of my fellow soldiers use any maxpedition rucks just tactical tailor style and mods of the large alice

  • I own 2 maxpedition's are their not bad very reliable. I've seen tactical tailor rucks, etc online and their also pretty nice. While i was in the military from 98-2001 we used Alice Packs. Also, I have used those same packs for camping, hiking and backpacking. Alice Packs in my opinion arn't to bad if you wanna decent pack but don't have a lot of money to spend on a better one. Their old school but will hold your gear nicely....lol.

  • How did they mod their Alice Packs?

  • What type of one man Tent and where can you buy it?

What type of white Bag is the food bag and where can you buy it?

    Thanks

  • Good video! Can you make a video showing how to attach a frame to A.L.I.C.E. pack?

  • Great video! Thank you.

  • great comparison, thank you, very helpful

  • where do you get one of those packs cause i need a new one

  • EBAY!!! very in expensive! make sure to get one with a frame.

  • ive got the same book as you and thanks for the vid very helpful

  • i want to buy a large alice but i dont want chinese bullshit...are these made elsewhere ??

  • you might wanna try to upgrade the shoulder pads yourself. save money. get 2 feet of webbing and 2 fastex buckles and see what configuration you can come up with. :)

  • Both videos were good. Thanks!

  • Are those genuine GI packs Kev? You can carry large radios, batteries, etc., in the main part of the large packs. They are nice for all kinds of large and bulky stuff like that.

  • i'm not kev but i'm pretty sure they are

  • nice... helped alot

  • a lot = 2 words dickhead..
