I love the Pumpkins. Though my favorite songs are probably from Mellon Collie, I think my favorite overall album might actually be MACHINA. Great stuff.
I have figured out why Machina: The Machines Of God, was considered a bad album. This album came out in 2000, and by then the critics were not interested in good music any more. Rap, Hip-Hop, Pop, Pop Punk, and Emo Rock were the big thing, and good music was a thing of the past. Smashing Pumpkins fans can be jerks, and since this album didn't sound like Siamese Dreams, or Melancholy And The Infinite Sadness they considered it to be a bad album by most of them. Long Live The Smashing Pumpkins.
Why are people talking bad about the new Smashing Pumpkins in a world filed with Rap, Hip-Hop, and Pop we should be supporting billy's new group not acting like five year olds crying because it's isn't "Siamese Dream."
Their music doesn't suck; it's just not your preference and it gets any new band's ass. But I agree that Billy is trying to hard to be different and artsy.
Machina's a great album and everything, and I loved what the pumpkins used to be but from the videos from this era you get the impression that started pandering to goths and artsy folks (especially try, try, try's video). It is a shame because up to that point the pumpkins were completely about making their own image and saying F you to anyone that didn't like it. It's what they're missing today I guess.
true story...I met jimmy chamberline and got talking about tattoos, i jokingly said mine were better than his (wrist ones), to which he then informed me his were only to hide his heroine scars.
I don't know. Is validation really that important? The story appeared enjoyable enough. Comedic and morose. I could go as far to say that it is a social commentary about a sub-culture. But, if it bugs you that much. I'm sure vivahate100 could entertain you.
Jimmy didn't die... but he did overdose towards the end of the Mellon Collie tour with their former keyboardist Johnathan Melvoin. Melvoin died, but Jimmy survived and was kicked out of the band. Billy opted to continue the tour without him and to this day still says it's one of the worst decisions he's ever made.
You know what would be interesting... if a band had a "sword fight" with the instruments... instead of smashing them on the gorund smash them on each other (and potentally hurt yourself but oh well)

F*ck tarantula cause it sucks compared to ther stuff from the 90's (early) and darcy is trash but awsome bass wish they were still together and he NEEDS HAIR!!! lots of it like he use too thank, you.
I don't think the hair is necessary but I'm partial to their earlier work. I just don't like the way this stuff was mixed. Sounds too harsh. Like my speakers are going to pop, in a bad way.
Billy Corgan in all his bald headed glory. He is so in love with himself and a good self performer too. (sry for my bad english) Guess thats why the video has nothing to do with the song. Still a fuckin´great song. :)
it seems to escape ppl that the vieos for these songs mean nothing.. whereas the songs mean everything.. why comment the vids when you can comment the songs?
they're coming back though. James plays Keyboard for this UK band called THE SOUNDS. (they've previously played @ Bam & Missy Margera';s wedding.) the pumpkin's new Cd "ZEITGEIST" will be out 7-7-07... go get it!!!!
James was always in the band until it broke up in 2000. You see Melissa Auf Der Mar on bass in the video (she played for the final tour) and Jimmy on drums.
didn't he get kicked out and thrown in jail before "adore?" if i remember right, it was a pretty big deal, "machina" being his comeback with the pumpkins. wait...nevermind... that was jimmy, right?
it was jimmy and he wasnt around for the adore tour or album. him and the keyboardist john melvoin during MCIS over dosed on heroin and john ended up dead. so they booted him for the time.
How the fuck this innovative, amazing slice of heavy rock has got just 11 comments is beyond shameful. Yet relative dross like BWBW which, aside from Jimmy's always amazing drumming, sounds like childish emo in comparison yet all SP fans seem to have an orgasm over it. The mind boggles.
This is way better. The structure and atmosphere are eerie and enigmatic - the stuff that typifies SP.
I love the Pumpkins. Though my favorite songs are probably from Mellon Collie, I think my favorite overall album might actually be MACHINA. Great stuff.

I can't think of one band like The Smashing Pumpkins. They're a unique mix of shoegaze, goth, classic rock, metal, and a few other styles.

Why do some people think that's a bad thing?

Why does every heavy rock song in drop C remind me of System of a Down?

Actually it should be the other way around, System of a Down should remind you of The Smashing Pumpkins in this case.
