  • Why don't you just create a path to let the ball roll down to the starting point? Gravity can do all the work, if your ending point is higher.

    You may find research on the Brachistochrone helpful.

    It is a way to use gravity to accelerate out of a field and still arrive at the same height in less time. Since momentum is stored during this acceleration, it is useful in breaking away from the retaining field. Also useful is the angles involved in the drop. Your chute is a close approximation and may be refined.
