Welfare was actually a good idea and worked well for a long time imo. You have to keep in mind that back when it was enacted most people had too much pride to accept charity unless they absolutely had too. However, life gets a little easier each generation and by the 80s we are raising kids that are spoiled and worry more about what the government can do for them and not what they can do for themselves.

Those single mothers who keep having babies because they are irresponsible shouldn't get more money. After giving birth once her increase should be cut off so if she has 1 or 2 children during her 1st pregnancy she will have just enough for her offspring. If she has anymore children shes on her own. I think signing a contract (like kellinonu said) is a good idea If she wants to stay on welfare. If she has more after her 1st prenancy she will be kicked off and have to fend for herself.

Also, if you have a child while on welfare you are thrown off the system, and a family of four on TANF and foodstamps can expect to recieve on average 16,000 a year in benefits. I also ask all the people that watch this one question. If you were to lose your job tomorrow and you had little to no savings, with a family to feed and support, can you honestly say that you would not try to get benefits to keep your family alive? Answer honestly.

I thing the government is making good progress in solving this by reducing the tax incentive for having a child by fifty percent in my state ,also the federal gov't has increased the total investment in community colleges. community colleges are the surest way to help people from low income areas get ahead and out of the welfare cycle.

I don't agree entirely with your video either... especially when you mention the children as being "worthless eaters." Welfare should only be used when your in a tough situation or when you are unemployed. But I don't 100% blame it on the people either. The social workers also do their part of miseducating our people about different programs. And telling them that if they sign up for all these programs and as long as they stay within certain guidelines they can benefit from the assistance.

they are a temporary thing there is a time limit with it; they even have programs if you need to get a job or some sort of skill etc. People should stop taking advantage; any race!. If ppl don't get the help they need when they need it they can end up permanently kept in a state of poverty. That's the real reason why some stay on welfare for years & years. It's not adequate assistance. Send a welfare recipient to college tuition free &let them study whatever they want, choose any career they want & many will gladly get off the welfare rolls. But offer them a minimum-wage, horrible job that doesn't pay the bills &will render them homeless in a few years...

Those single mothers who keep having babies because they are irresponsible shouldn't get more money. After giving birth once her increase should be cut off so if she has 1 or 2 children during her 1st pregnancy she will have just enough for her offspring. If she has anymore children shes on her own. I think signing a contract (like kellinonu said) is a good idea If she wants to stay on welfare. If she has more after her 1st prenancy she will be kicked off and have to fend for herself.

@lurotrish FYI welfare as you are thinking of it no longer exsist. TANF is a work program and you can only be on it for a fixed time fram 2 years consecutive for a maximum of 5 years.

I had to rely on the food bank for a while and live on oatmeal $1.89 a container. and banana 47C a pound...
I joined the National Guard though so I can go to a University. I still sleep in my car but I'm use to it now.

the video is pretty funny. i don't know if i'm misinterpreting it but you think social programs should stay/be increased? i think that the system we have now needs reform b/c there really IS no incentive for these people to work. they have more kids than the average taxpayer does and so on and so forth. the system is unsustainable unless we have a european style tax system. I thing the government is making good progress in solving this by reducing the tax incentive for having a child by fifty percent in my state ,also the federal gov't has increased the total investment in community colleges. community colleges are the surest way to help people from low income areas get ahead and out of the welfare cycle.

I don't agree entirely with your video either... especially when you mention the children as being "worthless eaters." Welfare should only be used when your in a tough situation or when you are unemployed. But I don't 100% blame it on the people either. The social workers also do their part of miseducating our people about different programs. And telling them that if they sign up for all these programs and as long as they stay within certain guidelines they can benefit from the assistance.

@iamaksd I grew up in a traditional family,my mom did not work and few moms worked back in those days.Having children should be only for married couples.Divorce was a rare occurrence and single moms where almost nonexistent. The government should not pay any money for people to have children.

This is a poverty mindset that has developed and progressed overtime because of the attitude of desperation and survival. Not all mothers who are single are collecting welfare checks and you don't know what is going on in their lives. Some women were married with hopes of continuing to building a traditional family and unfortunately divorce happened.

@IntellectualConcepts This would be very accurate... if this was '96, but TANF (which was established in 1996) aka Welfare 1) does not allow you to be on welfare without working at least 20/hrs a week 2) does not increase the amount the person receives based on how many children they have

It doesn't matter what race of people are on welfare. The bottom line is that these women and young mothers are not being educated the truth and depend on the system because they create it that way to do so. I know because I have been a part of it and know what's up.

The video was sarcasm. Corporate welfare takes in billions to feed itself and receives tax abatements (more of our tax $s) while only 1-2% of the budget is spent on all (no matter the race) welfare. Nike, American Airlines, sports stadiums, etc. are your welfare kings & queens. The largest items in the gov't budget is military and corporate welfare. Don't let right wing pundits use your bigotry for ammo.

Preach!! That is where all the money is. They claim these so called programs help but they don't. They use it as a facade. I know, I have experienced and still do. It doesn't nothing. The way I feel is just a facade to make it look as if they want to help people but in turn they are really helping themselves.

they are a temporary thing there is a time limit with it; they even have programs if you need to get a job or some sort of skill etc. People should stop taking advantage; any race!. But also, big corporations get welfare help too; like walmart! Welfare isn't just food stamps and medicaid; there is financial aid for college, businesses, section 8 housing,afdc, medicaid yes even social security that we supposingly get when we are older, plus a whole lot of other welfare type things i'm sure.
