DS homebrew can only work on DS Flashcards in a 'DSLite/DSPhat' type mode.
The SD card slot (along with the camera etc) are used in a DSi/3DS specific mode which flashcards (& the programming language used to make homebrew) cannot access
@Alex1115alex the acecard 2.i doesn't cost 40 bucks and the dstwo has a very powerful onboard CPU! If you buy a r4 for 6 bucks but you must buy a new one because the old is brogen, you must pay 12 bucks. Than, you need a new for 8 bucks that works with the 3DS -> 20 bucks. It costs 13-14 bucks.
@Alex1115alex you said 6 bucks vs. 40 bucks but the acecard 2.i costs only 13-14 bucks and you have to buy a R4 for every new DS (R4, R4i FW 1.3.0, R4 FW 1.4.0 and R4 1.4.1-1.4.3, R4 3DS). The most R4 cards are very cheap and they can broke very fast (I had 2 R4is).
@sagjig2 If your Flashcard works on a 3DS - then Yes it will work on a 3DS, but it will NOT use any of the 3DS special hardware like the faster processor/extra memory etc since most flashcards can only run in a DSlite/Phat mode
(DSi/3DS extended mode has NOT been properly hacked)
@DreadfulDeadMiner Technically, yes - it should work HOWEVER there are a LOT of 'R4' cards that are 'clones' of the original R4, which can have 'homebrew compatibility problems'
The DSCraft 'Wiki' [see description for link] has a (very small) list of cards that have been tested & shown which version worked on which card
@Technicmaster0 on Pg94 @ GBATemp forum (link above) you would find the following
"Sir_Voe: Any AI behind that, or is it just a teaser {referring to the creeper}"
"smealum (the developer): A bit of both really. Right now all mobs can do is follow you or run around randomly, and this screenshot would qualify as teasing since I don't plan on releasing anything with mobs for a while... just testing stuff !"
So that screenshot is just a teaser of MIGHT come in the future
@CannonFoddr But that means that smealum (i know that it's the developer) hase included the creepers once and there are screens of the first and the second version with creepers. That means that he has a way to unlock them.
I had trouble in the past with using 'copyright music' in my videos - so to play it safe I used a track from Youtubes 'Audioswap' that had a 'floaty easy listening' melody
However if you look under the video @ the number of views/Like & Dislike - you will find the details of the track under those
@gen222ax Weird that nothing is shown for you, although I have heard that German's Youtube can be a bit 'restrictive' on displaying some things - but for those that missed the previous comment, or also can't see the details under the video.....
The Music is called 'Faerie Cottage' from the Album 'Journey to the Faeries' by 'Llewellyn'
The results from the more popular companies (AVG/AVAST/Kaspersky/McAfee/BitDefender/Trend Micro) came back clean so IMHO I consider those 'malware' results as 'false positives' (BTW - 'a2' uses 'Ikarus' virus scan engine anyway)
@dshacker662 To your first question.. it depends on who you trust...
As I said in previous comment - most 'well known' AV scanners (e.g. Avast) couldn't find a virus BUT some lesser know scanners (e.g.ByteHero) did find viruses
The DSCraft Wiki @ wiki.gbatemp.net/wiki/DScraft has links to results of each file scanned
It is up to you to judge those results for yourself to decide if they contain viruses or not
As for your other question - No...This is based on 'Classic' so no 'MP' or 'Survival'
As said in the description - this is based on 'Minecraft Classic', & since 'Classic' doesn't have redstone - then the answer is 'No this does NOT have Redstone'
@TheDan7933: I know he meant the DS . Since he knew about Redstone I could only assume he knows the difference between 'Classic' and 'Survival', but just in case he didn't I thought I'll ask.
If I said that DSCraft was based on minecraft 'Creative' mode then he'll know that Redstone IS included
You can play 'minecraft classic' for free on the minecraft webpage... so anyone can see how 'classic' plays compared to 'survival' /'creative'
@baba3098 There's 3 ways of recording a video of a homebrew or game on a DS.
> 1st way is too expensive - it requires special equipment.
> 2nd way (as done in this video) is to run the program through a 'DS Emulator' & use 'screen capture software' - like 'no$gba' and 'fraps'.. note that some games/homebrew will not run in an emulator, but you do get good picture results...
> 3rd way is using a Camera & tripod - See my video 'How I Make Scibblenaut Video' - you don't get so good a picture though
@SilvesterKanal If you mean the Datel Games n Music flashcard then I can't see why not.
Not having one I cannot say, but from what I've read it's a Slot-1 flashcard that can run 'Homebrew'
- although it seems it's homebrew support is 'flaky' at the best of times
You can go ahead & try one of the versions avaliable, but you MAY need to 'DLDI' the NDS file first....search Youtube for 'DS Homebrew: Datel Games n' Music DLDI' - that video has links to the required files needed
@ComputerTricks100000 As I've said in the description....DSCraft is based on the 'Classic' version of minecraft.
If you know about 'crafting pickaxes' then I'm sure you know the differences between 'classic' minecraft and 'survival'. (BTW 'classic' is also known as 'creative mode' in the latest Minecraft pre-release versions)
'Classic' only allows you to 'build' sculptures with infinite blocks, while 'Survival' is where you can craft tools like pickaxes and attack 'Mobs'
@TheCoolcy You only really need the NDS and the 'DSCraft' folder on your flashcard
Depending on the version you have to use, the 'DSCraft' folder either has to be on the root (FAT) or same place as the NDS (NitroFS). I THINK for R4's you need to use the 'FAT' version
The other files (RAR files) are for creating new random maps (Mapgen) and for (attempting) converting Minecraft maps to DSCraft (mc2ds) - not tried this so don't know how successful it is
@CannonFoddr That's fine, I always took it as a port being a complete rip of the code and converted to be the exact same game but on a different platform, ergo ports tend to be worse off. Where as, since this isn't an EXACT copy of minecraft, it isn't a port, it doesn't share the same title. I think it could also be a clone, but since the creator intended it to be a copy of minecraft and not sold as a different thing (ie CoD and Battlefield)
@sniffysniff777 There is a 'special' version of DSCraft that runs in no$gba emulator (no save function though & I think you're stuck with a default 'map'), so I guess that is what Mbmax used
@richarde98 I guess you're saying you tried it out & you're getting 'white screens'...
Tthere are 2 versions of this ('NitroFS' and 'Fat').
Some cards can only use 'NitroFS' version - others (seems like those with 'R4' in the name usually) need to use the 'fat' version.Try the other version to see if it works.
Also make sure you have the folder in the right place
- 'NitroFS' need the folder in same directory as the nds,
@halo4life090 The 'portable minecraft' you're may be referring to is for Android phones (eventually) & is made by the official team that makes Minecraft (Mojang)
- It's programmed in Java, the same as Minecraft is - so doesn't required much (I guess) to alter the code to work on a mobile
DSCraft isn't programmed in JAVA but in Nintendos own programming language - It's NOT being done by the offical team & I doubt they will ever will port it to the DS...
@Ollivander207 Depends where you live... In most cases you can only get a DS flashcard online
In many countries 'flashcards' are deemed illegal
'GBATemp' site does have a link to 'Shoptemp' - which will list a selection of online shops from around the world where you can buy various flashcards - although even if the shop is in your country, most probably the card is imported from abroad
@ChroniquesDeReadDick Go to the GBATemp thread & you find a 'special' no$gba version (only for testing and making videos, no saving though) that you can try it out with

Concerning the Reports in my last post:
No offense man, this is a great video and really do appreciate Homebrew Projects like this one,
but I just checked the .exe files contained in the latest official version of this
(DScraft_fat_310811.rar from smealum[DOT]net/dscraft/)
and it seems virtually certain to me that these are bundeled with malware!
Note that the fact that the game works though .exe files in the archive being malware infested is not mutually exclusive!
AshKetchhupp 3 months ago
@AshKetchhupp Thanks for pointing that out - looking at those results though only 4-6 out of ~44 virus checkers state the 'malware threats'
I've tried these files on virscan[DOT]org
Mapgen.exe=1/37 'malware' warnings, MapUpdate.exe =3/37, mc2ds.exe=3/37

TheBnmghjk 6 months ago
@TheBnmghjk Thanks for the heads up - there actually a debate of whether to class it as a 'port','clone' or just 'Homebrew' on gbatemp forum.
Most agree that a 'port' is an official replica of the game made by the developers (maybe made by a 3rd party)
and that a 'Clone' is a exact copy of the game made unofficially by someone else, while 'Hombrew' is software 'based' on the official game.
I've changed the title to 'Homebrew'
CannonFoddr 5 months ago
@CannonFoddr That's fine, I always took it as a port being a complete rip of the code and converted to be the exact same game but on a different platform, ergo ports tend to be worse off.
