@dendodd2 Ah, I doubt he would be interested in that kind of fun. ^^;
But glad you like this. The match scene had to be in this somewhere, because I love it. And I thought about "No Prisoners" - in fact, it was in my first effort - but then decided to reduce sound to just the two dialogue scenes I used, and tho show the happenings more in reflections than action. O'Toole's face tells more stories, after all. Also, that's the reason the two dagger scenes are in. =)
I spent a bit of time last weekend with Robert Harris and I'm not so sure he wouldn't appreciate how well you executed this piece. The dialogue fits perfectly in the right places and the combination of the action on the screen; the words of the song and the dialogue you have chosen clarify and enlighten the relationship. I think your work is quite extraordinary.

Lawrence of Arabia, the blue-eyed prince from the North, my childhood hero. He was a kind of role model for me when I was younger. I still watch the film and read his books when I need consolation. Peter O'Toole's perfomance has given another life to this great man.
It really is a shame O'Toole did not get the Oscar for this, but well ...
The movie as such, as far as I'm concerned, is one of the best ever made, if not the best.
T. E. Lawrence was a fascinating character, and The Seven Pillars of Wisdom is a great book. I went to see the house Lawrence was born (now a hostel) and his effigy on one of my trips to England.
I feel honored if you like it that much. So - many thanks, and please, feel free ... although I guess that loving a video is a bit unfullfilling as a whole, I'd say. ;)
No, really . The song is one I longed to see correctly ( I mean artistically ) mixed with some great footage like this one . The film has too few vids here, and the 'pairing' ( don't know if it's an accurate manner of speaking )has none, to my great astonishment . I naively thought everybody would focus on it ^^
Even if only from a 'romantic' and platonic point of view, which in some case is better, they are one of my favorite couples in cinema history . But I plan to show this film to a bunch of friends who love to see unusual pairings in the most serious movies, so I guess this one will gain some supporters ^^
Sorry if our conversation seems futile to some people u_u'' seeing love and studying how it works wherever it is, seems very serious to me ^^
no its not futile I study film and homosexual (or heterosexual) subtext is often an important part of analyzing pre ratings system era movies that and I believe David Lean himself confirmed that was a component of the Lawrence/Ali dynamic
Homosexual or heterosexual is not very different . Feelings unsaid are what makes the mind wonder, and makes a movie wonderful .
Even love and hate are mixed in a sense ^^ it's always a strong feeling . When an actor can bring it to screen without words, it's like a secret code through the whole movie, that we can follow like a second storyline ^^
Is that the sort of things you're studying ? It would be fascinating ^^ I didn't know such a class even existed Oo
it does matter because if Lawrence and Ali were a straight couple the film could have a straight up romance so whenever it is pre rating system film scholars and critics have to guess
well not specifically for this but most film classes will watch and discuss Lawrence of Arabia it is one of the greatest movies of all time and homoerotic overtones are definately present and I forgot to mention many people (me included) believe T.E. Lawrence was gay this is definately a subject for disscusion
TEL almost definitely was NOT gay.He was asexual & enjoyed being whipped. He apparently didn't disapprove or approve of gays as he said in Seven Pillars of Wisdom. He hated for anyone to touch him-so being gay wouldn't have work. The movie-although Great and wonderful;apparently doesn't come remotely close to the real man- as stated by his biographer and brother and Lowell Thomas, who all confirm TEL wasn't gay,and was only doing the job he was assigned to do.He refused Knighthood.
I didn't say he was. Here I am simply putting forward that David Lean was convinced that Lawrence was homosexual and so chose to portray him that way. There is a huge amount of contradictary evidence and opinions on every aspect of Lawrence's life, and there is a good deal of contradictory evidence. He is an ambigous fingure and how to best portray him is up for debate. I respectfully disagree with your opinion as to the accuracy of the portrayal.
Nice job. My favorite film and my favorite rock band.
