  • I'm tired of environmentalists at TED and their sanctimonious attitudes towards regular people. It's not a matter of the regular man wanting to change, but being able to do so that it doesn't cause them or their families to starve. They need to point that attitude towards the establishment.

  • Thank you @Yann + 1 I love travelling from my inner heart. So TED talks, like Yann Arthus-Bertrand captures fragile Earth in wide-angle , really give me a big image what the human can really have done on our mother earth. In one life, what it really matters if I could keep walking on.

  • thanks for helping in irac Chad Kroeger, you did a geat job

  • Some thing worth thinking, who can say when the earth will stop us from harming her!

  • The earth has the antidote it is arrogant of civilized man to thing he has the solution.

  • The earth has the antidote it is arrogant of civilized man to think they have the solution. Humble down "MAN"

  • The road to hell is paved with good intentions.

  • cried listening to 14:55...

  • 14:55 :*(

    it really touched me

  • I want so bad to be a part of TED

  • Yann Just hits the Bulls eye when he said " We do not want to believe what we know"!!! That all i have to say in the subject... simple words... and the deepest meaning.

    Salute to You Bertnard

  • Money talks, if the world is in trouble it's because the ultra wealthy want it that way, as long as they don't suffer they could care less if all the rest of us suffer and die, only when they choke on poison air or retch their guts out on rotten food will they want the rest of us to do something, first step to a new world , kill the rich.

  • Bocbo, "Kill the rich"? If there was 2 people on the entire globe alive, there would still be 'rich' and 'poor'. My point is killing the rich would still leave rich. That's not an answer.

  • We all know what we are doing. We all follow a pattern. We should stop doing that, but the problem is that we don't know what to do to stop, or the solution in stopping.

Instead of showing what's wrong, they should show a solution, and what each one of us can do, or stop doing, because we're definetly doing something wrong.

  • I am with you, but I also agree with the speaker who tries to show how much humans damage this world and where humans can start to fix it. It will be good to know the scale of damage. There are many individual works to make world green, but the speed of growing damage is faster than healing. Evolution does not let us sit back from our daily crazy-unstoppable competition routine. We MUST find direction-changeable value in evolution. Without it, we are doomed.

  • Is it sad that I could see "Home" being something Wall-E-esque found on earth in three hundred years as a beautifully ironic reminder that at least the artists and thinkers wanted desperately to change things before everything was lost...

  • Oh thanks, little too lazy to watch. :D

  • Vecīt, nēesi tik stūlbs. Movie ir par mūsu planētas glābšanu un dabu.

  • It's about how we need to see what we're doing to our only home and make a correction before it's too late.

  • about how ignorance (such as your own) may prevent us from stopping the demise of our planet and civilization.

  • It is like this guy has spoken to every artistic desire I could have listed, in the past 6 months. It sounds wonderful - and it is going to be released without copyright. Kudos!!!

  • Home was absolutely amazing. Definitely a must see.

Look for it on Youtube, Just search for Home the movie, you'll be glad you did ;)

  • we need a very simple life to live yet people who are blinded by greed made our lives so complicated to live!

the question is how longer are we going to fall for this trick? we can not abandon our simple humanity and still be called humans!

    great information

  • Blaming somebody does not solve our issues. Poor human beings. Evolution is all about making your life better and giving your children the benefits. If you have time, help others and try to see more far from now. Let me go back the deep question why we have to keep the Earth clean. For what? It is all about living organism's patterns. Don't get panic. Tell people what you are practicing for your dream and this world. Maybe we can get some ideas like Yann Arthus-Bertrand did. Again Good work!!!

  • /watch?v=jqxENMKaeCU

    To watch the movie

  • why is no one at TED speaking about what hemp can do?

    Get Jack Herer there!!

  • Very respectable work!!! Good job TED. I really want to watch the film he mentioned. What I see the causes of failures are so many people, unlimited competitions, and unpredictable incidents. They are not human faults. Don't blame ourselves. They are natural selections in evolution(or survival). Now the question is how human intelligent can fix it. If we fail like extinct animals, human beings are not designed to solve this issue. Don't blame yourself. It is nature.

  • "It's too late to be pessimistic." - Yann Arthus-Bertrand

  • @kurthurtig: Very funny.

  • to kill all the preciouse porsche-driver would bring more than to kill all the bycirclers.

ELITE! think about it - help us normal people, dont kill us!

  • look man people in power don't listen to things about global warming because they are there to keep the machinery working that's why it says in the bible the earth will be cleansed by fire so just except it we are doomed because the powers to be don't give a shit.

  • what ever happens will happen, duuuh

  • i already miss cheap tuna...

  • on a serious note, honestly guys, the problem isn't *what* we're doing...it's just that there are too many fucking people on earth. I'm really not sure why people think they need to keep popping out more babies

  • muslim chicks are HOT, well, only the indonesian ones...yeah...cantik

  • For you, but each of us have our own paths. I respect yours, and wish you the best of luck. I'd hope you'd hope the best for me, too.

  • Which god? Do I spin a wheel and pick the one that the needle lands on?

  • lol right on - if someone asks me if I believe in god, I always ask which one-

  • No you can't chose, your parents do it for you xD

  • or what?

  • Thanks, we needed the reminder. NOT! People like you make the rest of the muslim demographic look like God-crazed maniacs.

  • lol god (if he exists) doesn't and shouldn't solve man's problems. the earth is ours to take care of

  • Whoa!

    6:20 - 6:48 = POWERFUL!

  • i cant wait to watch that film

  • Evolution didn't equip me with eyes that can see well in the dark, so preying at night might be difficult. I can't really afford the night vision goggles... oh well, I guess I could give it a try without them. If I trip over something and my prey manages to kill me instead, it's your fault, though...

  • I agree. As George Carlin said-- the earth with just shake us off like a bad case of fleas. We humans think we know it all!

  • The Venus Project is the most coherent, logical approach to eradicate many counterproductive acts in society and environment. Indeed, is the only way out from this mess.

The actual system is destroying your, mine and everybody else's environment at an incredible rate. Trying to fix this system and rename it isn't the right direction! We urgently must change for a better system.

Do reaserch, learn, and THINK WISELY

  • is the venus project that resource based economy thing where everything is free? i dont see how that could work, the majority of people would just sit around

  • People will sit around yes, But for the most part that will become boreing. Some people have an inability to sit and waste away. They want to be out, active, changing things around them. The people that have Time to sit have become some of our greatest thinkers. They imagine what can be done, And those that like to do, make the thinkers ideas come to life. It's a logical approach, It would be a practical one if the population of the world was 1/20th what it currently is.

  • We need more hopeful people like him. Especailly loved the visuals.

  • "It's too late to be pessimistic."

  • @ CommonRaven

Nah, earth is not the least bit fragile but its ability to sustain so called complex beings (such as ourselves) maybe. can we adapt to natures dramatic changes? time will tell. but i have a sneaking suspicion that apart from the fact that the change would we shocking we will in fact be here

  • Although drastically fewer of us...

  • those comments were meant as a reply to kurthurtig

  • got them. thanks =D

  • When I watch things like this I'm so glad that I'll be dead soon... Humans are so bloody stupid!

  • how about less ignorance.

it does not matter if people have been around for thousands or millions of years, or if climate change has an anthropogenic contribution (make sure to know the difference btw climate change and human kinds contribution to it) - it can be seen everywhere that the way we live is purely exploitive of animals, environment and even other people.

u dont need facts - its common sense, so please use it.

  • @ytgetter8758: wow. intriguingly logic way of arguing you got there. I think if you would concentrate more on the topic and little less on insulting or doubting me 500 characters would be enough to make a smart comment. If you need more feel free to write me a message.

au contraire to you i know that i know nothing (compared to what there is to know), but I am willing to listen and learn.

  • @kurthurtig My original comments were spot-on with regard to this video. But I will give you another example of your lack of knowledge. The reason oil is not being drilled in the US by independents & majors is because in 1933 the US was declared bankrupt, and the mineral rights have been given to foreign governments and the IMF as collateral. In California, only 20% of gold has been mined; try mining for the rest and see what happens. But its much easier to just say over population.

  • @ytgetter8758: Thank you for decreasing my lack of knowledge. please keep going and tell me what will happen if i try mine for gold.

while you are at it, please tell me what will happen if we keep drilling for oil. and please tell me how a country can go bankrupt and who "owns" mineral rights (who gave us the right to declare patches of earth ours anyway?) what is IMF?

did I say over population? must have slipped... nah well:i declare over population the only and only problem! (read comment 1)

  • incredible that you can answer all the questions that matter with one sentence each. clearly it shows your degree of ignorance, because EVERYTHING is intertwined. there is no one cause for a problem, nor is there one answer or solution.

it is a fact however that oil is used faster than it is produced - that makes it not sustainable. and no matter how you look at it: it is a fossil fuel. pleaes make sure to understand the terminology before claimin you know it all.

  • "there is no one cause for a problem, nor is there one answer or solution"

    i couldnt agree more

my intuition tells me that the human race is moving way too fast for our own good. for some reason i cannot fathom a tangible reason for such a notion, this video was amazing in so many ways.

  • continuation....

its hard to explain why, and that's why i your statement stands out this much. there is no one answer that's why were all different, and there is no one cause because we all have different weaknesses. i would really LOVE to see people of this earth taking the first step and "Believe What We Know"

  • all human problems are based on over population

  • And negligence, can't forget negligence.

  • time to introduce population control

  • seeing that mecca cube made me very sad

  • I guess it was an okay video.. but what the hell happened to TED? I want to see a video of some old guy talking about the universe and black holes and string theory and shit!

  • It's too late, I give us another 100 years and we'll wipe ourselves out. Ignorance is the nature of men.

  • Interesting .. learnt some things.

Interesting that "Nicholas Negroponte on One Laptop per Child" is mentioned in the info - what will we do with the waste from out-grown or unwanted computers?

    Ponderous man, really ponderous.

  • Relax. The sky is not falling, Chicken-Little.

Fear sells movies, but it is manipulation.

The right does it with terrorism.

The left does it with poverty, health care and environmentalism.

But in both cases it is really about politicians using fear to try and gain power. They hope the people will be filled with so much fear, that they will forget their rights, and grant politicians unprecedented power.

This is what the Iraq war and climate change are really about.

    Let go of your fear.

  • There are two kinds of propaganda: Tree-hugger propaganda, and corporate billionaire propaganda. Which do you think is more effective at brainwashing the population?

  • You left out other forms of propaganda: politician propaganda government bureaucrat propaganda mainstream media propaganda scientists protecting their government grants propaganda Religious propaganda etc. I'm a tree hugger. I plant trees on my property. But I don't force others to do so. Nor do I force millionaires to pay for me to do so. Gandhi would not have approved. But there is way too much propaganda out there, from any source. This video is propaganda, just like Al Gore's.
  • Of course the movie is propaganda. It is a message intended to influence the behavior of people. That doesn't make its message untrue. You should come up with a more pertinent statement than that it is propaganda.

  • Propaganda or not, his endeavor doesn't seem to aim for a negative path, it's very inclusive. And it would sure make a difference, its nice you plant trees too, please continue.

  • Everyone knows Arnold Schwarzenegger is actually French...duh...

  • download it on utorrent you going to download it faster! Go utorrent :D

  • we're a guilt driven society :/

  • Chinese filial piety doesn't make sense to me. Thank you for feeding me? What kind of parents wouldn't feed their own children? It's basically "Thank you for not aborting me."

Japanese filial piety makes much more sense, because Japanese parents treat their children so friggin well. Education fully paid including university, sports, activities, technology, games, whatever.

  • FUCK YOU, u think chinese parents dont do that too. but yea its a big fucking deal to jsut have the kid when u cant even feed yourself !!!

  • and even if you give it up for adoption then the state has to pay for it and the child has horrible quality of life. Why should i feed children that arent mine Should we also feed children in africa from our tax money. And maybe i would rather feed child from africa then your child Shouldnt i have a choice!

We have overpopulation in this world! If people would stop having kids it would be better for us not worse

  • I hope that's a bunch of sarcasm... dam Youtube and their crappy comment system....

  • yea i know comment system on youtube does suck

and no its not bunch of sarcasm

I dont value life of non intelligent life almost at all

and value very little life of low intelligent life

    like plants

if you dont draw the line on intelligence then where do you draw the line?

should killing sperm be illegal?(it dies within our bodies every 3 days or so)

should killing plants be illegal plants are alive as well!

fetus isnt a human its a parasite that would die without its host

  • Well said....Japan is an economic superpower, while most of China lives in poverty. The poor in China need children to help support their family...... They should be respected not criticized.

  • Sorry swyft187, not yours. Must remember to refresh before commenting!

  • Comments like the last one are so arrogant and self-destructive I can hardly find words to describe them! If we are indeed not destroying the earth, as seems clear if you open your eyes (even just in your own neighborhood) then we are wasting our time by learning to be better stewards? There is no downside to ecological awareness and better stewardship! We are living WITH the earth, not ON it!

  • Wealth gaps are not increasing and the sun makes the earth hot. How much more self loathing and ego masturbation are we going to fund? Is the point really to raise awareness? And that Iraq part? For real? If that guy thinks he is a war criminal he can turn himself in. Good photos, lame talk.

  • Whats the point.. We save earth, only to be eaten alive by Zombies for being smart and largebrained enought o save the world...

  • I believe that their will be great business opportunities for those who are passionate enough take action against the destruction of our planet now! I believe that the people that do, will be the life blood of the planet. Those who do something about it now, will reap the rewards for the planet and no doubt for them self as well.

  • its called greed. i could sell carbon offsets if i felt like lying to people and stealing thier money too :).

  • Greed and the lack of self awareness will be our doom.

I just hope that human kind manage to realize of this before its too late.

  • lmao I know, I think it's hilarious too how all the polar ice is melting and ecosystems around the globe are changing at an unprecedented rate.

  • well i will say that possibly things are changeing but its nothing we can affect. i can use spellcheck more often (i really should lol) and make less spelling errors but i cant rase or lower the overall temp. of the earth. it is what it is. enjoy the ride.

  • You can however contribute in not letting escalate the climate change even further.

  • Idiot. Global warming is not a joke. Did you not hear? The north pole has decreased 40% in size is just 60 years.

  • You are somewhat right. But the term "Global Warming" itself is wrong. It should really be called "Global Weirding" because it does not necessarily get warmer but trapped green house gases cause the weather to act funny in various parts of the globe. Plus, certain parts of the globe are affected adversely. Certain areas suffer more than others. I would like to read this so called paper

  • as long as your not going to expect a amazing nobel peace prize paper shure lol. my major is software design. not english or even enviormental studies. i just have looked deeply into this subject and defnitally know what my stance is on it. i consider it a joke.

  • Oh I'm sorry I didn't realize you took an English class to study the subject. LOL. Yeh I would love for you to go up and present your paper and get the nobel prize which you deserve. Maybe you should take abasic college level course on ecology and learn how our earth is heating up retard. Plus if you look at the graphs the trends of heat in the earth go up and down on a short-term basis but overtime increase. Do you honestly think you have the same credibility as nobel prize winning scientists?

  • might wanna read my comment again lol.

  • look up "myopic" in the dictionary.

  • "if global warming exists why is it much colder than usual in WI? that and last winter we had a record low of something like -20. is that extreme cold because of global warming?"

    fail

  • Definition fail.

Global warming is an increase in the average global temperature as measured over time.

Climate change, which is what you might be talking about, are changes in local weather norms, and can result from Global Warming.

It is almost impossible to predict what changes will happen where, but winters can become more severe in some places and more mild in others.

Saying, "Why are we having record lows if there is global warming?" is a misunderstanding of the phenomenon.

  • I was quoting 'penutwi'.

    Reply fail.

    hehehe

  • Yeah, figured that out after I posted. :(

  • dont spread your message of ignorance

  • fail of the epic variety

  • Read comments from the comment section and you will be less full on fail.

  • I'm trying to become self-sustaining, my first goal is to learn how to fish and I'm trying to grow some vegetables. Both are great hobbies, that I've come to love doing.

  • people need to stop having babies!

  • I think it is inevitable the world will decrease in ecology. Real questions need real answers. IT BEGINS with admitting we have a problem. What we know now is enough to know that if we carry on like this then we could be facing serious social dilemmas. If we want to support 6+ billion people with a western style lifestyle we better start reading the fucking manual :) Everyone is somehow demanding a better way of life however better affects the planet.

  • Who cares? Let natural selection take care of us. Billions will survive, billions will be eliminated, Earth is evolving, we will naturally find stability.

  • Are you willing to go down a path that might lead to extinction of our species?

  • not only us, but thousands of others as well. who are you to decide on that?

  • I couldnt agree more

  • Brilliant. Solutions? Stop trying to grow agriculture and industry just to catch up with the deadly fiat-based economy. Stop growing crops just to feed animals with which to feed ourselves; it's killing the planet and making us sick and killing us. Stop controlling the developing nations with massive debt burdens so that they may feed their own people. Dismantle the huge military industry of the US.

  • He opened with the fact that he'd have to kill a Frenchman in order to make up for the carbon it took him to get there.

He then closes by asking US to change, when it's not US so much as business (agribusiness) and industry and "sprawl".

    In short it's greed.

He says we are progressing too fast for our planet, when in reality we have had more capability which is still growing, without an equal amount of wisdom.

    We are monkeys with guns!

  • I love you?

  • "Merci Beaucoup, I Love You" nice ending!

  • What's up? You just looking to argue about global warming? Gotta say, you made laugh. Here I was considering post something like "Hail Arthus, lord of the frozen throne!" There's a lot of relaxed and grovey people in here, what's your deal!

  • No, I just tried to express my opinion. I want all people to drown, that's all...

  • we need to have more awareness as a species

  • Really great photos and video. I however tend to differ on the plot.

  • ???

  • Very powerful.

I wish this was a TV commercial.

  • H O M E

    - total peace -

  • Beautiful.

  • <3 the accent :o)

  • reminded me of Jacques Clouseau :)
