How is the picking pattern applied to playing? When I try and play top 3 strings descending arpeggio, I tend to want to hit a downstroke first. Is this wrong? I can try to apply this pattern to my playing -- should I play this way instead?
How is the picking pattern applied to playing? When I try and play top 3 strings descending arpeggio, I tend to want to hit a downstroke first. Is this wrong? I can try to apply this pattern to my playing -- should I play this way instead?
Yes ! up up down then down down up alternate this for better picking all over the fretboard ! Then the left hand warm up with a tonic scale or some chromatic scale or modes.
Use each finger on the first 4 frets like open string then 1234 frets on all 6 strings. Then backwards, now both hands should be all warmed up and ready to make music.Peace and love to all :-)
lol this "warm up" sounds like a proper tune.."yeaah, just added a few tones to keep my ear entertained during the warm up, called in a drumer and a bass player and here I am selling my millionth record" :D
"warm up my right hand" "g string" "i can feel it burn already" "gotta get the right strokes" "it takes more muscle to do this motion" "use my other fingers" ill do it a long time" "find more extentions" "it takes alot of control" "do it louder" "now your right hand is magicaly warmed up" XD
@justin7031 Although there is a vague similarity, he is infinitely more badass in every way. They both my be comparable with each other at guitar, but Paul Gilbert is much funnier than Dane Cook.
He will never give up exactly his picking technique caus its not just what you play but the muscles you use in the forearm and wrist and the position you have them in.If these things worked that they show you then everyone would be able to do that and it would put him out of a job.
I can feel this excercise works on the right hand/arm muscles ... but what I found a little bit iritating in the first place is that I thought Paul would not teach one to not alternate the picking strokes ...
I love his guitars. If I didn't love my Washburn MGs more than anything, I'd buy one. I have a white one that loks alot like his guitar here and a dark sunburst one that looks like his new PGM 401. Paul is just a masterful player.
When I seen him years ago at a guitar clinic, when he came out, I immediately was struck at how thin he was. He is really thin in person. He's awesome though!!
its a lesson hes not drowned in effects and distortion so we can cleary hear everything hes doing. remember hes not soloing or playing live this is only a lesson ive seen him live and at guitar clinics and his tone is superb.
Get his newest album, silence followed by a deafening roar and you'll hear tone. Its unbelievable how his tone has progressed through the years, he always said he is on the endless search for tone, well I think he's nailed it with his new album.
The tone you are hearing in this vid, and MOST youtube vids, he has his vol/tone knob turned down, so you can hear each note clearly. As the other guy said, this is a lesson.
The one knob he has is a tone/volume knob. Lowering it both lowers the volume and the tone, changing the sound from overdrive to clean without changing channels, or a foot switch.
Paul Gilbert always seems to somehow fit just enough humor into his videos. He constantly says "Listen with your Ears" in his SFBADR instructional DVD. I laugh every time.
