i got the df_28_181_40c download a while back, is that one of the first ones there is? can anyone tell me anything bout this file? it would be very helpful, thanks!
is there a way to scroll though regions areas the search found instead of just the first candidate? my first option is kind of rubbish for recourses...
@shimrra The newest version (0.31.25) highlights suitable areas with green X's, which flash on and off until you search again or hide them. You can move around and look at all of the suitable areas that were found in a much greater detail
One think you didn't mention is that you should check all biomes for in your embark square for there surroundings. Sometimes you might think that your embarking to a calm square while there is a biome square that is terrifiing that is housing a heard of skeleton horses or something.
I was wondering, what do you prefer? High cliffs or a flat area? I've been trying to find a mostly flat area with a few hills to build into a fortress but also want clay, flux and iron at the same time, so I'm kind of bonked in terms of finding a good location.
A quick word to the Civs you can Choose. The Migrants you get, are actually from the Civ you choose in the embarking screen. Its Actually possible to take a civ that died out in World gen, you will get a special Legend about your Fort in the Legend Mode sayin youre the sole Survivor of the xy Civ. Pretty neat if you ask me^^
ok, ok, now go back, why the fuck is this game made in ACII?
sorry for being a 5th generation gamer, but i never got to own anything earlier than mario 64. and also, i am not that guy from the matrix... what is the point of this game?
@monoham1 I use this example a lot but, have you ever heard about a game called minecraft? Dwarf fortress is a lot like that but in more of an real time strategy setting. It's made in ASCII, I'd imagine, because the developer needed a simplistic platform to integrate so many and such complex systems that are completely randomly generated.
The point is to have fun . . . which is to say the point is to lose. There's a whole proof for the equivalence on the wiki.
@monoham1 To see how long you can last in something like this, or to feel strategy, your kinda full of shit for not giving this game a shot and instead complaining about the engine.
You said in your last video that sand was necessary to building glass. How useful is glass? Is it so good that I should look for sand specifically in my starting zone? Also there seem to be types of sand like loamy, black, red, etc. Are they all used to produce glass and can they all serve the same function as normal sand? Thanks in advance! :D
@Condeycon Glass can be very helpful late game, as almost everything that can be made out of stone can be made out of glass, and glass is very cheap/free to make. Having both Magma and Sand pretty much guarantees free furniture, doors, jewels for jewelers, and blocks for constructions.
One thing I would like to point out is that you dont seem to have mentioned salt water in this part, It would probably be useful for new players to know that saltwater = bad.
Hey man, the series is really shaping up, but I couldn't help but notice a mistake. The civ page lists all neighbors, and that red line meant that the goblins would be hostile, not just that they are present. Notice how the Elf civ didn't display? You probably won't run into any Elves, just gobbos, humans, and of course dorfs. Good luck on your fort!
Y U NO START GAME ALREADY?!

Am I the only one here that has played Oregon Trail :(?

@iDarkMadness I doubt that very much. I think many of us spent our formative years repeatedly dying to typhoid fever :D

Hey, I was watching Jefmajor's LP and am wondering how you embark on towns. My embark gets grayed out.
Shane070297 11 months ago
@Shane070297 your supposed to embark in the wild, build it from there, in the wild, not in someone elses place.
