my thoughts were more along the lines of... "why do you need kiai if no kiai is sufficient, you need kiai when you're having more difficulty throwing the opponent. otherwise you'll be screaming every throw you do"
also, seoi otoshi is a combination of seoi + otoshi? his leg isnt even out to fit the requirement of an otoshi. anyway thats just my opinion
your knees are bowing outwards, which is bad apparently. you gotta inside them inwards if anything. I cant tell you why, because nobody has told me the reason yet, but the people who have told me this are right. try it out.
Sorry for the slow comment. I deleted the email from youtube and had to go through my trash can. Could you show a video of a randori where someone actually gets close enough for a harai goshi? I realise that goshi throws are good for lower CG people like myself but I cant seem to get that body contact. Any tricks that you may impart?
Well, harai goshi is a very hard technique, but not so hard as uchi mata :) I will try to make a video, when me, or some of my friends are fighting, using harai goshi. It shouldn't take longer than one month ;) Anyway, thanks for watching my videos. It,s hard for me to give some tips or tricks to you, because I am from Poland, and I don,t really know much words of body parts and work in english, but I'll try :)
That was really really neat. I am short but I can't even morote as smooth as that. haha. *jealous* I have so much problem with the foot work. Yours was beautiful btw. I watched it several times! I take it you practice traditional japanese jujitsu?
Hehe, wow, thanks :) No I practice just Judo, but have some knowledge about other martial arts too. Actually, I'm the uke here, and the person who is throwing is my friend xD I know that morote seoi nage is one of the best techniques he's doing, and he is practicing this drop for a few years. If you want I can make more films with friends who are really good at some techniques (they will do them quickly and slowly), and put it on my profile :) Especially seoi nage variations tips ;)
There was no body contact, because that was just a quick randori in dashi waza. It's not a how-to-do-seoi-nage-properly video, but if you are really low when you throw, sometimes body contact is not necessary. On the wideo that's morote seoi nage, so two-handed seoi nage, and that's why it may bo no body contact :)
from my understanding (i've done seoinage for the past 11 years and is my tachiwaza), body contact isnt essential until you're just about to throw you're opponent. this is because you'll want to first apply kuzushi (pull him towards you), get in the space under his CG, and pivot him over you're body. depending on the situation, you dont want to move into the opponent, but rather bring him towards you.. im 3 years too late to respond :p
@shangss u mean its ur tokui waza. tachiwaza is stand up techniques...tokui waza is the technique u really like(or specialize in) and pretty much use it everytime
very good you do it very low i can't cause i got bad knees

i see 5 things that are wrong with this video
1:no kuzushi
2:no kiai
3:feet ended up in a weird position after the throw and did not stay on toes when finishing the throw
4:did not put heels together when bowing out
5: technically this is seoi-otoshi

@PooJiraiya
need explanation. why do you need to kiai?
and how is this seoi otoshi?!
shangss 8 months ago
@shangss because it makes the technique more powerful, and it seoi otoshi because the tori is just pulling the uke down

@shangss otoshi means to just drop, or sharply pull down. many people think that seoi otoshi is seoi nage with a leg extended, which is wrong.

very good, you stayed on your feet. many people drop on their knees, wich is poor from.
PooJiraiya 2 years ago
Not really, dropping to your knees can also be help full, it brings him down faster and cuts him down quick too.
chrispadilla91 2 years ago
i never said it wasnt effective, i said its poor form, morote seoi nage on your knees is sloppy and can cause knee damage
PooJiraiya 2 years ago
@PooJiraiya it works far more often than the standing version.IF it works its good form.
billysue2 1 year ago
drop seoi nage is NEVER good form
PooJiraiya 1 year ago
Not really bad form, just another throw, seoi otoshi.

Seoi otoshi looks like tai otoshi, not like seoi nage.

@silvaphysh13 Yeah, ok. Too many variations, not enough names.

i noticed that there was no body contact at all when you threw him. Is that how it is for drop seoinages?

if you watch anyone with a really good sei-oi-nage, they never make much body contact (if any) when doing uchikomis.
tadahiro nomura and yuusuke kanamaru for example dont make body contact while doing uchikomis.
it is a hand technique after all.
