I played Billy's bass once and could not believe how high the action was. He has incredible hand strength to play the way that he does on a setup like that. He was a very nice guy too.
I watch this over and over again. Words of compassion to the drummer. Keeping up with the Billy isn't easy work. There is one guy who keeps him easily - Pat Torpey is his name.
he also plays jazz-fusion excellent! And something else "eqsmooth"!Don't you think that because you know g3 you know the best guitarists in the world! The guitarists in G3 are "some" of the best guitarists in the world!BUT there are more!So think again when you are going to talk about "the best legato in the world"Richie Kotzen!
Paul Gilbert is a nerd & a twat. I knew him before Mr. Big & it was a never-ending barrage of tasteless exercises in speedy note distribution. Oh yeah, he's hot shit with all you other "guys", but his playing always lacked soul, and he couldn't bang a hooker in a whorehouse with an AMEX black card. Cuz he's just the kid that got good by hiding in his room so the neighborhood kids wouldn't kick his ass.
i met tichie kotzen...he literally was giving away his signed album..it wasnt very rock n roll. hes the one everyone forgets in the rock world. plays a lot of guitar shows to get by i think.

Let me straighten this out for y'all: Satriani is a virtuoso and this kid Kotzen is a 2 bit B level rock star. Mr. Big was done after the 1st album. Paul Gilbert smokes Richie Kotzen. Go out and watch Billy Play with Dennis Chambers in NIACIN. Much more musical and entertaining.
O Rly? Tell me what makes a guitar player a Virtuoso? Maybe your idea of virtuosity is not the same as mine . Kotzen is a fender Endorse , has been playing for a whole life , ( played with gret guys like Gilbert , Lynch , BB king , Greg Howe etc ) has his own style , is not a Stevai vai and John Petrucci wanna be , is respected in guitar world ... well saying that Kotzen is just a level B Rockstar just don't match his " music road ".
I think that you dont know what a virtuoso means! Also i think that you dont know anything about music because you compare richie with joe and Paul! They have completely different styles!Richies plays especially legato! And think something else! That playing with mr.big, billy sheehan, greg howe, steve lukather, stevie salas etc means that richie is a recognised musician. And also for the niacin!Niacin is an awesome band but they play jazz-fusion and if you have heard richie's albums you'd see that
Take a look at the guitarist that Kotzen was and the one he is now. Wow, he just matured musically. He can shred if he wants to, can play bluesy stuff with great phrasing and tone. He evolved. Unlike a certain Mr. Malmsteen...*tap* *tap*
I agree with you. In his earliest works, Kotzen was more focused on guitar. Now he combines the right amount of vocals and shred. He's a really talented musician man...
very interesting, because billy plays not his equipment and has not his special sound. i have the readhead combo. billy has a nice technique, but he needs his special bass guitar sound....
lol i dont think Billy was comfortable playing that geddy lee sig. cuz he usually plays higher..and his DVD says that the strap length does play a big role in his playing...hes Billy, and i cant believe he pulled this off without his strap at his length..awesome person, awesome richie! and atma!! and thank u for posting this
"This Guys No...Satch ????? Dude don't make me put it on Joe, I'm sure I speak for many when I say, They aren't even in the same league... they have totally different trips... and Joe is a great talent, but they aren't comparable at all.
No, that is not Atma Anur on drums in this clip, we were just suggesting you check out some of his solo work with Atma on drums. The drummer in the clip is bad ass, seriously, but he is not Atma. Sorry for any confusion.

Have you heard Greg Howe? He as good at Richie if not better, definitely knows more in the technique department

I think Greg Howe is great. I have most of his cd's but.. Richie's playing has more of a groove thing going on IMHO.

the bass is around the same position as his penis, he's probably played that with his eyes closed, then length of of strap should be no problem
