Amazing tour - caught this one in D.C. - I was in the 10th row, couldnt hear for the next 2 days. I had constant ringing in my ears. Im convinced that shows were a heck of a lot louder back then. These days you dont get your ears blown out like that. There was a wall of speakers behind Ed and you could feel wind from them and big pounding in your chest... Crazy days.
Whenever I see the 1984 tour videos a weird feeling comes over me cus I know its basically the end, the band couldn't stand Dave, he was really on his ego trip, etc. But he really couldn't sing live and Ed said in interviews he was sick of the clown-joke show that was ripping off the audience musically cus of the lack of singing ability with Dave.
it's really quite pathetic, that there are better quality shows, audio and video, years behind this great tour...and there are ONLY like 3 or so poor videos from this show!!
I think this was taped from the audience. There are some professionally filmed concerts, but those are locked up at Eddie's 5150 home recording studio. Apparently there is a ton of Dave era Van Halen footage, but it will probably never be released for whatever reason.
@ouluvme2 There are 2 full concerts of the 1984 tour in ameture quality, Montreal and Las Vegas. I just KNOW there is DVD quality footage of this tour I JUST KNOW IT!!!!!!
Usually they are in some different format (if I remember correctly, I haven't dealt with them for about 2 yrs..) so you might need a audio or video converter. The ones I downloaded were safe. But, its the internet so there's no guarantees, but there's so much awesome material out there it's very tempting. Have fun! lol
no problem. Sammys lyrics are like a 8th graders poems, Daves lyrics are like a lenny bruce show. Sammy watered down 151proof liquor with his kool aid career. Good, huh?
My intent is not to upset anyone. I saw DLR when he and Sammy toured, and DLR couldnt sing worth a shit. His lead guitarists seem to carry most songs as DLR tried to hose down the first five rows with JD. Once he got to our section we like 80% of the crowd already did, went to the beer garden disappointed. I presumed he was having an off night however, after watching several live earlier videos. This guy just cant sing. Maybe its his big penis or mouth everyone actually loves.
Even though Dave is finally back they still aren't the same without Michael Anthony. On the last tour all wolfie would do is just stand there like his shoes were nailed to the floor. No stage presence what so ever! Just when I thought the real VH was back they screw up and kick Mikey outta the band....
Yeah, the band was never called Van Hagar, its just what some people call the years Sammy was in the band.. I've also heard people call Van Halen Van Roth..
No shit! Why do people want to hate so bad? I jammed with Sam Halen many times along with David Halen as well! Those hateful boring side picking comments get so old! I say enough already! People you're better than that!
Did anyone remember the part the poster edited out? I remember from my own bootlegs that he had sung starting right at 2:00, "sing to me..." ( repeated twice in echoes) and then he sings "little babe will you talk to me... " it was echoed three times. Then he went on to say "...and then she took her clothes off..." and it was echoed once..." then he asks" you like that dirty s#$%, don"t you? Hah"???
At the close of the Meadowlands performance they all interlinked arms across each others shoulders and bowed together repeatedly and then each bowed individually as the others acknowledged him and at that moment I got the ~absolutely vivid~ impression that they were saying goodbye. I came home and told people about it ... and I too never thought it would turn out to be true. As I recall it was some time later that it was announced, so I am thinking they must have known then. And then it did.
i agree, this video make me really sad to think that this was the end of a great era in this bands history. the energy that dave gives at the end of the song shows he rocked his ass off, even as the band was splitting apart. I;m really glad to have seen them in 1984, at the peak of their success.

@theShowStopper321 And, also, Dave thought that with Ed getting into keyboards and synths, that it wasn't real Rock anymore.

One of these days, hopefully Ed will open up the vault on the Roth-era live material.

@Fakename70 We can only hope. You would think Ed would be all over releasing it considering the money he would make.

I love this song. Sexy intro and very upbeat, feel-good the rest of the way.
Although back then, it seems like they never did the second verse. :(
Anyway, this is a cool performance though I think I prefer '82 in Largo.
