@jimcraw I love stephen's work with those band but Young w/ Crazy Horse, International Harvesters, Stray Gators, CSN, The Springfield, Stills-Young band... Stills can play a wicked lead and Young is always their to back him!
this was the greatest concert.. in Chi CA Go it went on for 3 hours.. lots of anti war stuff that made creeps mad and walk out.. Freedom of Speech Tour I think..was their last CSN+++Y tour.. damn they can SING and PLAY! no lies!!
@ruffdraft07 Young people of THE HERE AND NOW.. we need your strength and numbers! We are still mad as hell and lots of us are retired or shoved out of work.. lets stop the party shit.. and get some accountability in the damned house and senate..stop the whorish payoffs and campaign contributions.. for starters!
One of the problems with groups like this is that when the songs were new they were freah and related to current events, 40 years later its ancient history. Im older myself, saw CSN+Y day on the green in Oakland in 73 I think, and I was at SNACK Sunday also so I know what Im talking about..
I would argue that with hindsight Crosby and Nash (seemingly the junior partners at the time) have shown a more coherent musical vision and more consistently tasteful output than Stills, and at least on a par with Young.
@dotcaster I don't get that comment...since CSNY broke up/separated/re-formed/separated, most people would be hard-put to name a single decent song that either Nash or Crosby has written. And while Stills has been seriously sidelined with drug and health problems for the past couple decades, Neil is the only one who has steadily produced. He's a veritable music machine.
I saw CS&N in Santa Barbara, CA about three years ago. Truly amazing, although they have of course aged. Wish I could see Neil, that would be the ultimate. I love these guys.
I saw this show in MIlwaukee in 2K....My wife got us the tickets for My 50th B day...it was Awesome.....and yes.bassist is DD Dunn From Blues Bros Fame
Although Jim Keltner is a legend, I didn't think his sound was right for this tour. Too deliberate and a bit stiff than drummers I'm used to hearing Neil play with.
For the person who asked about the bass - looks like Donald 'Duck' Dunne, played with Neil a bit lately. I think he was in the Blues Brothers movie many years back too.
I disagree with most every political view I've ever heard Neil give, but unlike many preformers I can get past he politics because he simply a musical genious. His passion for the music and the effort he puts into it can almost even pull on old goat like me over to his way of thinking. The rest of the guys are great musicians particulalt Stephen Stills (the arrogant bastard lol) but young is up there with maybe a dozen others who are the best that ever wrote and recorded music.
Neil, what an amazing musician, spanning what, 5, 6 decades. Buffalo Springfield, CSNY, Crazy Horse, SOOOO Many solo masterpieces to mention. I cant think of another Musical artist with as many brilliant works. Neil is simply the best!
Thanks for posting this. I lived near and spent time in Kent when this happened. I've just discovered that listening to it now still makes me cry, just like I cried the day it happened.
Thanks for posting this. I lived near and spent time in Kent when this happened. I've just discovered that listening to it now still makes me cry, just like I cried the day it happened.
I was at this concert and it was a dream come true for me. EXCEPT for the obnoxious drunk a**hole who screamed throughout the whole concert - I LOVE YOU NEIL! YOU ROCK...Wouldn't have minded had he not been jumping squirming and drinking while screaming in my ear ! Still, loved the concert - was a bucket list item for sure!!!!
Incredibly lucky that year that they were all together - they had almost lost Nash to a boating accident. Neat that they could still rock out like this.
Neil is THE MAN. He was then, he is now. The whole world was going nuts at that time and CSNY just put it all in perspective and we all marched forward. I heard David Crosby cried after this was recorded. You can feel the emotion in the original recording.
I refuse to get in the debate and say anything against the music of today. But what I will say is the music of CSNY and Neil especially is important music. It mattered and meant something. People like Neil Young, John Lennon, Robbie Robertson, Bob Dylan, Eddie Vedder, Bruce Springsteen, Michael Stipe have important songs, Most others have good songs, they just aren't that important.
Truely amazing stuff from truely amazing people--------keep on rockin' in the free world. They have never been afraid to speak their minds, none more so than Neil Young and for that they will always have my utmost respect and then on top of that there is all the wonderful music they have given us over all these years. Thanks CSNY we will always owe you.

People have become so desensitized to violence that they don't realized how scarry this time was when the National Guard started shooting. I had a friend to was a freshmen at Kent State that year. All he had was a bike. He was so scared he pedaled all the way to his home in Cleveland without stopping, thank goodness he made it.
I was there to see them in Tampa, 19 days before. Front row between Crosby and Neil. We had our tickets upgraded by a member of their tour party just moments before the start of the show for free! Nicest surprise I ever got at a concert! As great as this was, the last time they all camed to town was even better... August 23rd, 1974. Tampa Stadium for that one...
so wait is someone saying something that applies to all black people homosexuals and the entire jewish race, and they are complaining about soceity, i think the main problem is this attitude, and i dont see where the attitude is coming from, anyone out there any idea where, i live in the uk and im not a patriot but i am proud that most people are more than just tolerant of one another it makes no difference
To trooper744: In Canada we might not get a black jewish homosexual leader, more likely just a jewish homosexual. (We're still working on the black part...) And we're looking forward to it, so, come on up!

The present generation is less aware of civic responsibilities. Post baby boomer generations have become more apathetic towards political action w/ the passing of time. They also know very little about what this country (U.S.A.) stands for. I bet very few of them would know anything about the United States Constitution. Yes, it is sad, and it is exactly what political leaders like. Getting away with corruption is a lot easier when you govern over a generation of apathetic dumb shits...
Im 26 and I agree... my generation sucks....the next president will probably be a black jewish homosexual. They will drive the country to the ground... well at least theres Canada.
I love this song and I'm only 21. My hippy high school English teacher played it for us in class when we were learning about Kent State. This song is fucking awesome and relevant for today...Vietnam...Iraq...what's the difference.
I'm from the CSNY generation. I just saw one of today's young people take 5 taser shots simply for not showing ID in the UCLA library. If that is the shape of things to come, they are in deep trouble. Our police were sweethearts compared to theirs.
They are protesting. We're not seeing it on CNN. Remember how it was? Hundreds of tiny protests, and only the occasional big one made the news.
yeah, i saw the video of the guy getting tasered. yep, in my youth we only had to worry about the police finding our goodies or hassling my old man about his long hair. i also see them protesting, tho not on the news. one of the folks i suscribe to has a lot of video of protest. i fear what is gonna happen to the young folks today.
@bambi1058 It's gotten to the point where you cant step outside without a cop stopping you and harassing you. At least where I live it has, and that's not freedom at all. Not true freedom
i'm glad that at least some of you understand what i was trying to say. greyisgod may have the answer...is the majority of today's young people to stupid too understand what is happening to our country?? i can only hope that the majority of people in the US will finally see that war is wrong...the wrong war, the wrong place, and run by a different sort of 'axis of evil' Bush, Cheney, Rumsfeld. i pray that there are young people out there who will see thru the constant fear mongering.
As for bambie1058 comments. Its not that all of the current generation doesnt see what is going on the majority of it is just to stupid. And for the rest of us that do see what is going on we are trying to get this changed, just unlike the vietnam war there isnt an overwhelming census that disagrees with the war and a way to stop it.
why is it that the present generation doesn't take a note from the old pros?? is that they are too involved in amusing themselves to death to realize what is going on in the world?? if so, that is really sad.
thank god, some people do 'get it'. there was a lot of really good music in the time of the Vietnam war, it made us sit up and take notice...that you could NOT trust the government, nor the 'war machine' of the pentagon. we felt badly for the soldiers then because they were merely pawns for the government. collateral damage, so to speak. thank you for understanding what i meant.
The present generation is less aware of civic responsibilities. Post baby boomer generations have become more apathetic towards political action w/ the passing of time. I'm 17, from maryland, I'm a social activist, there are activists in my generation, but not enough, far to many just sit around playing video games, etc. We do need to stand up
@svennybob Agreed. That's why Neil is still making music and CSN have nothing new to show. CSN have gone this far on the backs of the great tunes that they wrote so long ago. Neil still turns out greatness.
@samansun You're probably right. That's why Neil just released another new album recently. I'm sure it's just filled with his old songs. You know...he has to rely on them.
@svennybob I would rather have four somewhat dissimilar talents all working together to make a song like this or some of their others. Makes it richer! What a piece of our history, and theirs! No wrong way to enjoy this song and this band !
Neil being Neil....One of the most influential songs of an era and not the only one Neil was involved in...

Neil's entire career has been more consistently impressive than theirs. I'm not putting them down. CSNY are amazing, but Neil's the man.

@svennybob Agreed. That's why Neil is still making music and CSN have nothing new to show. CSN have gone this far on the backs of the great tunes that they wrote so long ago. Neil still turns out greatness.

They all rely on their old ammunition, because the new doesn't fire, no matter it is Neil or Stills or McCartney.
