GREAT piece of engineering (not to mention sculpted ART ^_^ )...only wish they had done considerably better (i.e. WIN lol ) at Daytona. GO GET 'em chEvy!
Well great work to the team. Let's make the effort worth all those hours and keep the strategy for the race in place and working as time goes by. ErnieO
You know, I actually like this Corvette DP. Maybe this isn't like the lovely Corvette Lola GTP of the '80s, but this thing looks very nice. Cool looking car. Hope the teams that campaign this car can be competitive. I respect Pratt and Miller, so I think this car will do very well in the series.
It is based on the small block structure of the LS9 - just limited to 5.0L and 530-hp per rule book. Unless someone else corrects me, I don't think the Eaton roots blower is allowed neither. It will have the dry-sump oiling system and direct injection - which wasn't allowed in ALMS because it' wasn't available nor installed in the current Corvette lineup; I'm sure that's changed now.
After a day or two of winding down, NOW I have a question: does this mean that the governing body of Rolex/GrandAm concede to allow other manufacturers in this series their design cues as well? IOW, will a Jag look like a Jag and a Porsche look like a Porsche? I haven't watched a single Rolex/GrandAm race at all as I'm a Corvette Racing ALMS fan first.
@triplexxxsatyr That is the point. All new 2012 DPs are supposed to have brand resemblance. Chevrolet just happened to be the first to reveal their car.
I'm a bit skeptical as I'm pretty much a purist when it comes to FE, RWD configuration. Doesn't mean I won't root for it but if this succeeds, well hell, who knows where this is gonna go. LOL!
@chrisdraper2007 So you would prefer for them to just stay in a series that favors BMW?
Also, assuming you aren't wearing rose-tinted glasses as many other elitists, Grand-Am isn't terrible. Its by far more competitive despite its cars not looking like the Le Mans cars and in 2012, this car here is the just the first for the new DPs.

I take that back: it will have the port tuned fuel injection system NOT the direct injection system. My bad.

Finally the D.P. cars don't look like upside down boats. The old cars looked like cardboard kit cars. Hope they all look this good!!!!

Not a fan of the huge greenhouse on the modern DP's (looks wise I mean, the safety is important of course) but damn, that is a good looking car.

The car looks uh-MAY-zing!
This Corvette racer shape makes me recall C.E.R.V. III, Corvette GTP, and the Pontiac Banshee concept, all from the 1980/early 1990s.
