Contrary to the myth that is put forward in so many films, Jean was described by eye-witness accounts as not being particularly attractive; at least not in any conventional way. Not exactly ugly...but kind of odd looking. One source described her face as being somewhat horse-like; i.e long and high-boned. Jovovich, with her hair cut, comes closer to the image than any movie I had seen up to that point.
I think Milla does a great job in this film, I like how she's a bit off and crazy. Plus I like that her hair cut actually makes her look like a guy. In the stupid Leelee Sobieski version her hair is shoulder length and she acts completely normal. If your'e going to see any version of Joan of Arcs life watch this version.
