@peacesells First off it's in Drop D, secondly Set to Fail is a horrible example of a Lamb of God song, it's pretty awful until the solo kicks in. Secondly, there's no comparing Gilbert and LOG because they're too different to even hold in the same category. And thirdly, the GW dvd's always suck imo

Is it really so hard to get that Paul really isn't playing through his own amp here? He's probably playing through some crappy 50-bucks solid-state amp that isn't really able to produce tone of a decent quality. Far from his usual Marshalls.

I am not a fan of Gilbert but anyone should know that when you are playing by yourself for others you should not set your tone to razor thin; that's for cutting through a band. If one of my favorite guitarists sounded like that in a lesson, I would react the same way and say they should set their amp differently for different situations. Also, there is a difference in accepting changes with your hero and just blindly obeying. That doesnt make you a fan, your love of the music (in this case) does

Im a fan of paul gilbert, and have been, but his tone isnt usually that thin, i agree, its not that great. but fortunately many of his other songs, or if you see him live, his sound isnt so shrill. Still a crazy ass guitarist though.

Evidently being able to play with any skill isn't a prerequisite for getting a job at a guitar magazine. Gilbert, Friedman and the guy teaching the Attitude Song were the only people in this video who can play.
