She was ahead of her time. Only my opinion, but after Anthem (& even in some parts of Anthem) she kind of went kitsch. During and after Anthem it became more like pantomime (compare "I Want to be Free" with "Bird in Flight", same sentiment, but one was lip service, the other was heartfelt poetry). She was a GREAT artist at a very young age. But hey - Dance, dance, dance your life away !!! Fuckin love it !!

I love this chick...there's just something i like about a quick little look you get of her at ,...1:47/1:48/1:49 ,...when she steps up to the mic with her arms up and arches into it,......Uhhhhhhhh
This song is excellent in many ways, and also one I remember in many ways and it for me is about science fiction series and science fiction films. It is very science fiction in many ways and I love thsi song,
@ lulabek oh, god, I also used to have this VHS 20 years ago! It learnt about so many good bands through it and it influenced my own punk band at the time.
Great Performance. There's Joel (fab), Toyah has the iconic bangles on her arms, she also does her usual energetic performance....bounce, bounce, bounce, aerobic exercise arm combinations, etc. LOL. Danced, what a track! Love it......
I went to this gig. It was down the Scala art gallery and we had to get through tiresome support bands like Invisable Sex (truly awful) and Blood Doner.
Toyah hosed down the audience at the end. I wasn't best pleased, truth be told.
I used to have URGH! A Music War on video over 20 years ago. I loved this version of Danced. There was loads of other great performances on the video (The Cramps, X, Magazine, Alley Cats). I also remember a pretty shaky piano performance from a young Jools Holland. Thanks so much for putting this out, it's a real nostalgia trip. Most of this stuff still sounds good and stands up today. Does anyone know if you can get it on DVD?
I have a bootleg DVD as well. From what I've read there will probably never be an authorized, remastered DVD due to the impossibility of getting all the artists to grant rights to the performances.
This is a punk classic. They just don't make such songs any more. This song is so atmospheric and I know that when she performs this live it is still incredibly powerful.
oh my god. you just made my day. this is a total flashback to going to see URGH and just loving it....and this rocked. toyah was totally new to me and she was so cool...THANKS for uploading!!
urgh! a music war is AMAZING someone should do something similar every 5-10 years showcasing indie/alt acts.

What a great performance, great band, alot of
people forget toyah was a band and she only
became a solo artist when she signed to CBS
in the mid eighties.

I don't think anyone can deny that this was a peak moment for Toyah... cool as fxxk !

How I love this song.
This is so beautiful, such amazing energy and presence.
Toyah is a WARRIOR woman, through and through.
Such a strong rebelious female performer.

THIS IS WHY I MISS THE 80'S!!!!
My oldest brother used to have this on tape (both cassette & video) back in the day. I have loved this song since I was about 2 years old!

David Bowie's little sister? Really, though, I love this vid. One of a kind. There's something pagan about it that appeals.
