I hear that theory a lot but I'm not sure it's true. Medical marijuana would make an excellent adjuvant for certain types of illnesses, but it couldn't replace most of what's out there already. It's not a miracle substance. If anything, pharmaceutical companies stand to profit from synthesized Dronabinol (similar to THC) and other Cannabis plant derivatives. I think it has more to do with politicians avoiding the "soft on drugs!!!" label, than it does to do with big pharma.

As the FDA and DEA are both federal agencies, it is no surprise that the two take the same position on cannabis. I think it's likely that the DEA has in some way made the FDA make these claims. Obviously there has not been good research done by the FDA on marijuana.

Some pain meds don't work for some people. That's why there's alternatives. Just like Antibiotics.

There are however alternatives.. And it is not illegal to mix the substances that marijuana consists of and sell it in such a way, which these people would be able to use.

As the FDA and DEA are both federal agencies, it is no surprise that the two take the same position on cannabis. I think it's likely that the DEA has in some way made the FDA make these claims. Obviously there has not been good research done by the FDA on marijuana.
If Giuliani can't do his own research, he has no business being the leader of a country, or any place for that matter.

The FDA has a bad rep for taking payment from these pharmaceutical companies in order to state that these perscription drugs are safe. With a natural plant that can replace many drugs out there the people would have an option to not buy the pharmaceutical's. This is also why the government would prefer we pay more taxes to fund synthetic THC that does NOT work giving even more power to major drug companies.
