This clip reminds me so much of the scenes from the Red Letter Media take down of the phantom menace where Lucas is trying to explain how good it is after the screening.
Also, gotta love how Moore speaks about throwing things at a wall and then it maybe a pattern might emerge and then being complimented as "disciplined" and "not making it up as you go along". If what he described isn't making it up as you go along, then what the hell is?
Summary: We made it all up as we went along. Normal process would be to write the show, then shoot it. But with series these days, it's a case of "let's shoot a pilot and see if we get funding". They have literally no idea what they're doing, which is how we get shitty endings like BSG and Lost.
@NewFormofSilence Amusingly, I had that very impression both during and after watching the pilot episode, itself. Good to know my intuition was ultimately correct. :)
It's healthy to improvise with performances, minor elements and miniature story arcs, but when an entire show's being steered blindly, amidst continued hinted reassurances to the fan base that it's the exact opposite, feeling short-changed is inevitable.
