  • If they want reviewers to know how to play the game then just properly show the player how to play the game...in the game.

  • thank god for Jim

  • to bad IGN gave splatterhouse a shit review, they basically walked up to namco and said can't let you do that producers

  • 0:00 - Ad skip.

  • @Catastrogue Doesn't that no work anymore?

  • guys this is a video about fucking gaming, not weight watchers, stfu and gtfo

  • @Mog087 STFU, there are more reasons some people stay fat than you slim whiny assholes ever had a clue about. You don't know shit, GTFO. Future sure will invent easier and cheaper ways to stay slim or prevent excessive weight without becoming some other lifeform because of one your stats.

  • I so want the Splatterhouse one.

    I would pay for that.

I am a huge Splatterhouse fan and that would be nice for my collection. And I loved the new game so much, well worth the 15 year agonizing wait I endured after Splatterhouse 3.

  • no offence but u look like a douche ._.

  • I couldn't really focus on what you were saying, I just couldn't take my eyes away from your glasses. I was kind of hoping I would see myself in them, but alas the internet is not that fancy yet.

  • This guy is such a douche. When will you learn Destructoid he is only bringing you down.

  • @MrNuckFuggets

dude's awesome. he tells it how it is.

  • As a reviewer myself, I don't have a problem with publishers wanting to help reviewers better see certain aspects of their game; it's all mutually beneficial, after all. What I do have a problem with, however, is publishers telling us how to play, what we should be doing, and even practically telling us what to say. All things considered, we are reviewing games for other people, and as such we should be seeing them from the same point of view as someone who just bought it.

  • Very good and informative video. I would have liked to have seen what the average review guide looked like. I know you explained it a few times, but just a quick look would have given some more reference.

Love your stuff, keep it up!

  • your amazing jim! thanks for teaching us about review guides!

  • DEVELOPERS: If the reviewer cannot figure out how to review your game, if the reviewer is playing your game "wrong", then you did not make the game clear enough. Writing a book to go with the game, to tell them how to review it, should not get you those points you lost for making a confusing game, unless the reviewer is lazy or easily influenced. If you want a game that doesn't get points taken off for being played "wrong", then you need to make the game itself very clear on how to play. Simple.

  • The only thing I've kept as a critic is the very cool artbook that Activision sent with their new Spider-Man game a few months ago. Everything else gets tossed... sometimes I'll even toss the game because I know it's rubbish. I played a game from a developer recently that was so bad that it hit the bin 20 minutes after I played it.

  • @kmnvmkdvfwf yeah so?

  • @ScribleWorks The Electric Hydra, look it up

  • I Need More Jim in My Life !

  • 1:09 made me lol. I believe you Jim... Seriously though this video was really interesting. I know you are honest when you say you dont use these, but I am sure a lot of lazy reviewers probably write half of their review from those guides. I really enjoy your reviews on destructoid because you actually get that all reviews are subjective and based on the reviewer's unique opinion. I find it hilarious when people go ballistic when you actually use the entire 1-10 point score scale.

  • This was very interesting, could you make more informative videos like this?

  • To be honest, if an experienced game reviewer is dying repeatedly in a game and getting frustrated then there's something wrong with the game. It's probably not very fun. The only game I can think of that got "misreviewed" was Zelda: Phantom Hourglass. People complained that the stealth sections were awkward in a Zelda game and made you feel less powerful. Yet, if you actually play through the entire game, which most reviewers don't do, you get to kill them all with the Phantom Sword in the end.

  • @Jon166 yeah, 10 hour of sneaking for 15 minutes of killing, that's what i call fun

  • Thanks for the wanking material for tonight. Im gonna line my dick up with how u sit and pretend mine is urs. Then when i rub it imma gonna pretends ots urs jim.

  • Sunglasses.

  • I haven't seen Jim Sterling without his sun glasses in so long.

  • @zombeh42 Everything is better when JS has his sunglasses on.

  • Hah, if I was a reviewer I'd ignore the shit outta those review guides

  • <3 Jim

  • I guess I would be that c**t. Those looked really interesting but I would understand why review guides would be a hindrance for a publisher. There is only so much time to play and write reviews that taking the time to be taught the "proper way to play the game" would use up that valuable time. Good work Jim, keep it up.

  • @HotKakez They would be moar interesting if the games they were from were better.

  • This was great. I'd love to see some more videos like these.

  • Wow nice review guides! I never knew they went to such extend to make them.

I write for a Danish gaming site as well, but I do this crazy thing where I play the game and then write my opinions on it.

  • hey nice haircut Jim
