But... getting to interesting points... considering the size of this planet, whatever life existed on it could not be carbon based life. You'd be talking about a lifeform that was able to survive extreme heat (the side facing the sun) and extreme cold (facing away) since it is rotating. So we need a lifeform that can deal with both extremes. But how could anything evolve in those conditions?
@BloodOfRayne life on our planet has to deal with some temperature changes too, penguins live on antartica, it can drop to -70°C but penguins sometimes swim to south africa and the average temperature is 30°C. life will adapt to their planet conditions, even if it takes billions of years just like on our planet. the periodic table of the elements only contains the elements we found on our planet, there will be a lot more elements out there in the universe so life on other planets will be random.

@BloodOfRayne its very possible, animals on our planet who have to go through hard winters and warm summers change their fur, they will get a greasy, warm coat and at summer time they will drop their fur. the animals here have adapted to the orbit of earth around the sun so they will go through the same fur changes each year (thats how long it takes to orbit the sun once). animals on gliese are also adapted to that, winters and summers on earth will come and go too fast for them to survive here.

@BloodOfRayne we suggest that gliese 851 is about the same age as our sun and 581c is at the best distance from its sun because his size already makes things a little bit more difficult indeed, but life adapts to it without a problem. the gravity is no problem, if a life form is used to walk around in these conditions since it was a one celled creature billions of years ago it shouldnt be a problem either, amagine an alien looking at our planet thinking "life cannot sustain this gravity can it?"

Some people like to think that there could be silicon based life ect, but the number of silicon based molecules that can be made is quite a bit less than carbon based. If we all build a space station about the size of the death star, then we could colonize it and ship it off to Gliese 581. It would eventually arrive, and when it did, it could orbit the planet just like our moon does. Once orbiting we could launch our transport shuttles to the surface, and begin colonizing.

100% sure this planet holds life. 99.9% sure that humans and other earth animals can not survive this planet. we are evolving along with this planet for 4billion years now, we are adapted to this planet in the smallest things of it, if planet gliese is just a little bit different to earth (wich it probably will be) then there is no way for an earthling to survive on a planet that is unknown in our genes.

But... getting to interesting points... considering the size of this planet, whatever life existed on it could not be carbon based life. You'd be talking about a lifeform that was able to survive extreme heat (the side facing the sun) and extreme cold (facing away) since it is rotating. So we need a lifeform that can deal with both extremes. But how could anything evolve in those conditions?

@BloodOfRayne life on our planet has to deal with some temperature changes too, penguins live on antartica, it can drop to -70°C but penguins sometimes swim to south africa and the average temperature is 30°C. life will adapt to their planet conditions, even if it takes billions of years just like on our planet. the periodic table of the elements only contains the elements we found on our planet, there will be a lot more elements out there in the universe so life on other planets will be random.

Whereas where this new planet is would not be able by it's size of rotation and distance from its sun could not sustain any kind of life as we know it unless you wanna say that there is a new form of life that could deal with exteme heat for a longer period and suddenly adapt to a freezing temperature for a longer period! @BloodOfRayne its very possible, animals on our planet who have to go through hard winters and warm summers change their fur, they will get a greasy, warm coat and at summer time they will drop their fur. the animals here have adapted to the orbit of earth around the sun so they will go through the same fur changes each year (thats how long it takes to orbit the sun once). animals on gliese are also adapted to that, winters and summers on earth will come and go too fast for them to survive here.

@BloodOfRayne we suggest that gliese 851 is about the same age as our sun and 581c is at the best distance from its sun because his size already makes things a little bit more difficult indeed, but life adapts to it without a problem. the gravity is no problem, if a life form is used to walk around in these conditions since it was a one celled creature billions of years ago it shouldnt be a problem either, amagine an alien looking at our planet thinking "life cannot sustain this gravity can it?"

Some people like to think that there could be silicon based life ect, but the number of silicon based molecules that can be made is quite a bit less than carbon based. We don't know for sure that another system is even possible so we look for what we know.

Earth has existed for about 4.6 bilion years. Gliese 581G has existed for 7-11 bilion years.
