.....city leaders need to get their heads out of their asses and start looking at other options to invigorate the local economy instead of their obsession in building a goddamn arena. Sacramento is a failure and will always be a city of broken dreams. How many redevelopment plans for downtown have fizzled the past ten years?? I stopped counting.
....Westfield invests in cities like Roseville because people there have cash to spend. If downtown's economy was thriving, you bet Westfield would take in interest in the Plaza instead of letting it decay and using it as a tax rideoff. Sacramento has been and will always be a city of broken dreams. I cant even begin to count how many redevelopment plans have failed over the past 10 years. Instead of obsessing over building a goddamn arena, city leaders need to get their priorities in order.
Sacramento has had a long history in trying to revitalize it's downtown. Sacramento, along with the other Central Valley cities, have terrible economies with a large population of lower middle class residents, residents at or below the poverty line, as well as an enormous population of homeless and mentally ill people roaming the streets in and around downtown. Corporations are not willing to invest in the city because it lacks what they're looking for. Furthermore..........
i dont really like this mall anyways out door mall i mean how well did you think that was gonna go its raining go to the mall get rained on WTF ......Arden Mall FTW
I went to the remodeled Downtown Plaza's first day of business in 1993. I mainly didn't go there a lot due to NO FREE PARKING! The movie theater there is very poorly-run- I've never seen a perfect presentation there, and I gave up on it a long time ago. (A free promo screening of a movie there was the WORST cinematic experience of my life, and coming from me that's saying a lot!)
i'm glad this mall was a collasol yuppie failure. i hope that over-rated midtown sac goes down the same way. all these so-called yuppie restrauants and bars are just a passing fade, and these "trendy" places will close up shop in about 10-15 years. midtown used to be nice and deserted after dark, where all the suburanites would flee to their cozy homes in the 'burbs. maybe a violent riot or more murders will hopefully cleanse the area of those yuppies and suck ass artists.
I have watched this, and hundreds of other videos of the same thing. I thought this country was ''supposed'' to be the best in everything and yet each video i watch gets worse. no money to help out the working class and keep these places open, but billions and billions to countries for their growth, without even as much as a ''thank you''.......I agree, it's totally sad.
Awesome video and so true. The mall was originally remodeled in 1993. As you can see, it still looks like the early 90's. Westfield corp purchased it and has never upgraded it. It's dated 90's and they are losing tenants all the time. Adjacent to the mall, is K street. The earlier photos in this video show a thriving city street. Sadly, today it's closed to traffic, empty dilapitated store fronts, run down and smells like urine. So sad
the westfield mall in Annapolis Maryland will end up like this, they keep adding on wings to it and making it larger with empty stores that will never be filled and stores are leaving , the problems for local merchants - rent is too damn high to eek out a living for a local merchant to even think about it , and the current economy sucks so bad that no one has the money to pay the 800% above wholesale you would have to charge JUST to pay the rent in those places
At 8:35 you see a sign that mentions Westfield leasing retail space..
The sign says:
Oppurtunity
Awaits
A weird coincidence or also the letters A and O (Alpha and Omega) The beginning and the End.

So basically Westfield buys a thriving mall and has no clue how to run it, effectively running everyone out?

Wow, how did this mall die? It looked so peaceful and then it vanished.

Trippy video.
Westfield has deep pockets for cities like Roseville, CA but they use these downtown dumps for tax ride offs.
Shame on them !!!!
