I would love The Whitlams to do a tour of NZ. Not very known here but I lived in Aus for 10 years and really loved you guys. We have just had an earthquake in Christchurch. Maybe an option to come way down under?
This one is specifically about the last time he saw Stevie Plunder before he died of a heroin overdose. Charlie #3 (BNPL and #3 from Eternal Nightcap) is about the day he died. God Drinks at the Sando and Blow Up The Pokies (from Love This City) are about Andy's gambling addiction. The Curse Stops Here (from Little Cloud) is about Andy's death, and being the last surviving original Whitlam.
I saw The Whitlams in Adelaide a couple of weeks ago and they were truly amazing. Such a talented group of individuals. So cool they are still going strong
It's about losing what you thought you could NEVER lose....It's about losing you life spirit....It's about losing your BEST friend....It's about a price you can't pay
Whats this song about whats he talking about? I remember an ad about drug overdoses with this song playing though it which made me notice this song i think it suits the song.
oh hell, this just made me completely dissolve into a crying mess, can hardly type because I cant see thru the tears
its just my history...this album being so amazing and so important to me, seeing him do it live on the U. of Canberra campus in Aus in '97, and how everything went haywire for me in Aus right when this song started being played on the radio
an exceptional talent, I would be love the sheet music, even if I could find it, the song sounds so much more than my talent would allow. It is such a beautiful and technical piece without having too much going on. one of those melon collie songs but so beautiful.
i don't know if there's sheet music (its likely), but the chords are Gflat major, Aflat major, Bflat minor the whole way through pretty much, then Dflat major at the "you can't afford it now" bit, If that helps - playing the basic chords and singing along can be awesome fun :)
Me and my girlfriend in a rental car on the Queensland coast. We were in love, that song was the sountrack of that journey.4 years later, she's my wife and the mother of my child. Thank you for posting this... it brings back great memories
absolutey beautiful one of my fav songs, timmy can do no wrong, he is simply brilliant, he sends tingles down my spine, his songs are simply brilliant, he is awesome, go whitlams, darin and glenys
I would love to hear one day Tim Freedman and Ben Folds sing a song together :)

it's not about andy, this song was released in 1997, before andy died (2000) and had only just left the band
i'm pretty sure it's about stevie and his heroin addiction
either that or another of tim's friends with a heroin addiction

To put to rest any rumors, this song is about an ex-member who killed himself, he had a very bad gambling addiction.
It's about watching this good friend destroying themself and their life.
Ullish1989 2 years ago
I've done some research. Its about Steve Plunder one of the three original members of the band who killed himself for some reason.
How ever another original member Andy Lewis killed himself due to a bad gamberling addiction which is what Blow Up The Pokies is dedicated to.
redblur12 2 years ago
Blow up the Pokies is about Andy's addiction, as it was written and released before his death.
this song is NOT about Stevie.
kremer08 2 years ago
No, it is about a guitarist from Melbourne. Charlie or Craid Owens I think his name is. Charlie 3 is about Stevie's last night, not Charlie 1 or 2.
kremer08 2 years ago
When i saw him live he said that charlie represented several of his friends that killed themselves or died or were close to it.

its about a friend addicted to drugs

work it out for yourself?
just hit each key. and compare it to the cd until you find the right note.
or put a chromatic tuner next to your CD player and it will tell you the first note. then you just find the right octave. then work from there.

His piano playing is very human, he makes some small mistakes but its ok, it doesn't matter, its a true live performance so its nice :-)
