Wow, this is a really horribly quality recording. I'm sure it would be better if it didn't sound like it came off a 20 year old VHS tape that was left in the sun for too long.
Boy I would think ferocity queen might have had a point (and may have even been ferocious...-gasp!-) if not for arguing just for the sake of argument. Listening to any compositions Ihsahn takes part in you can tell his classical influences...anyways let's all just sit around and argue about the various jazz and progressive touches and about the finer etiquette of details! That's what makes humans into people here on Youtube, isn't it? -Mr Teejis
the musicianship of what ihsahn does is so high quality, i dare not say progressive cuz i dont think it is, its the opposite its very classical in nature, almost a fusion of avant garde and victorian orchestral w/ american/british musical theatre a la sondheim and lloyde webber. prog is weird for the sake of weird and complex for the sake of complex usually, like opeth, dream theatre and symphony x, ihashn understands the simplicity of music as much as its complexities, thats why he teaches.
You're so wrong.Progressive is the attitude a musician has towards the music-exploring new themes and soundscapes, tending to improvisation and/or interpreting known themes in a new fashion.Dream Theatre are more jazz-orientiered,and especially Symphony X have a lot classical influences.Which has nothing to do with "weirdness".
I saw them at Montreal for their first album. I really enjoy to listen to I breathe without access to air and to Ovation to Art. It was funny to see brutal guys trying to hide their emotions. They liked it, I'm sure!
thanks for this vid

Just to mention; Check out Ihriel's solo project, Star of Ash - it's sort of the same thing, though better!
Great to see a live video of them - thank you! :)
