One bad goal 6 years ago still floats around. I think the reason everyone picks on him is because he is french isnt it? I have seen worse if not just as bad goals with other goalies, what the one Broduer let in against the Ducks in the stanley cup finals? that wasn't even a slap shot.
1) Brodeur had already established himself as an elite goalie. Cloutier has only established himself as a joke.
2) Are you refering to the goal where he was going to play the puck but then accidentally dropped his stick? And the puck deflects off his stick and past him? Because that was a fluke, not bad goaltending.
3) Brodeur went on to WIN that series, and guess what else? Win the Stanley Cup.
Brodeur is French too, not to mention like 5x's the goaltender that Cloutier is. Brodeur's on his way to setting records and the Hall of Fame, and Cloutier's career in the NHL is probably over.
Bear in mind that we had been beating the Red Wings soundly up to that point, and we started losing horribly immediately afterwards; it isn't so much the one poor save as the utter meltdown that ensued.
