Im a singer and songwriter of the opposite genre, pop lol. But I gotta say, I was still totally able to relate to you guys. I've always told people that I don't care if i have a Bentley in my driveway, or sleep in my car, when music is your passion you can't ignore it. It sort of chooses you more than you choose it. I've met probably the biggest names in mainstream music, but I must say, I think I have more respect for you guys just because your such authentic artists....awesome documentary
Nice documentary, sometimes it was a little hard to hear what people was saying but overall it's an OK quality.
I think the subject mater is extremely important to talk about, I've been trying to tell people for years that making music is not an ongoing party and that even bands that are on a professional level has to struggle.
It's great to finally see it in being talked about.
i first saw car bomb on the gojira tour. you guys killed it (even though the singer wasn't there) so i went and bought a cd. i'll try and catch you guys any time i see you in the area and now that i see your coming out with a new album im gonna get that. this vid is an awesome motivation. i feel like calling my boss in the morning and quitting my job. great thing for me is that even 10ppl at a show is a good show for me. haven't been jaded yet or even ever tried to make money off my band.
Played some ghetto shows like that.... 10 people.... sucks.... Your best bet is getting shows with bands that are more known so people will discover you easier...
Talking about car bomb just makes me miss NECK so much more. That band influenced me at a young age....I still have yet to hear anything as sick as PATTERNS and FUCK IT!!!
@destroyerofsenses there are musical equivalents of lil wayne and drake in every genre. thinking they represent hip hop is like thinking nickelback represents hard rock, pendulum represents drum'n'bass and slipknot represents metal. mass produced radio schtick is just that, regardless of genre. metal as a whole is a very mainstream thing nowadays, and well, the only time metal WASN'T a huge movement as a whole was in the grunge-era of the 90's. every genre has it's accessible and extreme artists
What is missed out here are two important factors; firstly, the pure balls out love of playing really loudly and leaping around like your heroes. Secondly, the simple logistics that there are more people playing metal then those who actually want to go and watch it. This is the entire equation of live music. Gigging Public must be greater then the total people playing, or the scene dies and many bands with it. But keep going, and you might get a gig where the promoter respects you. One love \m/
i cancelled a "reunion" show for my "mathcore" band last night because we were juxtaposed with pro level national bands. i dont want to play out of nostalgia. great, so its technical, angular, avant garde and all that shit but when youve exhausted your heart on something that only got you so far, it wasnt going to be worth the embarrassment to play in front of people who just dont get why you do this. i dont want my band to be dela hoya and get beaten by pacquiao. this film justified my decision
Wow. So glad I actually have that car_bomb album already. I had no idea you guys had such a hard time. Now, after watching this, I'll appreciate your music even more. It's funny though, I can't recall how I heard of car_bomb or where I got the album. Must have stumbled upon it surfing the web and just ordered it instantly... like a boss.
Why we do this? Damn, it is the most intense feeling to create something new... to put our heart and soul into what we love... And to have at least ONE person that appreciates what we are doing is just to cherry on the top of the mountain...
I don't care if we ever get the recognition to go way beyond all of the things that have been mentioned in the documentary but i will fight for my music...Thank you for this documentary... Props to you buddy
I gotta say i respect you guys despite living in a material world like today you still are advocating family, friendship, and self respect over money. Keep on rocking in the free world you guys kick ass despite commercial limitations.

While I'm not into "math-metal" or "djent" (what's that for fkkn stupid "name"?). It's a really good doc. It's kind of this way for every possible original band, only if you're ready to cover the usual cheesy songs on weddings or party's you'll have to sacrifice a lot of yourself and your bandmates. It's your own way of expression and get broke or cashin' while you're playing the same "rock" songs you hear 10 times a day on the mainstream radio.
Thank you so much for making this documentary. People really need to see this. This kind of life sucks sometimes but to me the end result is the most rewarding. Whether you play in front of 6 or 600 people, communicating on stage is the most amazing feeling ever.
So Fucking true, We are a bunch of guys who play some Djent/Melo death and folks dont give a fuck but just rip us off just as we play some different shit and its not the usual "Commercial Metal" like Brutal,Old School,Trash. :|
Being in a band and making $25 a show was when I really began to wonder what I wanted to do with my life. Going to school for music, writing it, everything was who I was. Watching this didn't scare me at all - I still want to be in the band that I'm "in". I still want to tour. It's the feelings, just like the video said. That is why I - why we - do this.
It's who we are.
Very powerful video. I connected in a way I don't connect to many things.
bastante emotivo. ahora hay que pensarselas dos veces antes de ser "musico".

now I play guitars for a technical death metal band down called "Lunacyst" down here in the middle east (bahrain), we feel you guys !! stay mother fukin heavy !!
Really really great documentary. So many people have these arguments for stealing music from bands "It's intellectual property", "I'll just buy a shirt at a show", etc...while those aren't bad arguments per se, I love just supporting bands, and giving them a little return for something that will bring me joy for multiple times for the end of my life. I just want to see them rewarded, and that's it.
@SeaOfTrees78 I wrote all the music for my doc except for elliot's song @ 19:00 and the why you do this song by death angel in the beginning. Thanks for noticing it!
Every time people ask what type of music I listen to I say stuff like Car_Bomb, Gaza, Psyopus. I would buy 2 copies of the next record fellas! Keep on truckin, you'll get
im not too into the genre. but i do absolutely respect you and what you do. ive been trying for the better part of a year and its been a pain in the ass to even find members. my bassist doesnt even know how to play bass. but im 15 so we have plenty of time to develope. anyway if you ever find yourselves in central wisconsin you bet your ass i'll be there! i always support metal when i can.
Thank you so much for this. For years I have been trying to figure out how to create the music I love without hemorrhaging money, all the while wondering if that was the right choice. This has given me encouragement and I will definitely be sharing it with all of my musician friends.
@XadaTen That's the sort of outro part to Gojira's "The Way of All Flesh" off of the album "The Way of All Flesh." It's an incredible song. The whole album is amazing.
@XadaTen The song is "The Way of All Flesh" by Gojira. If you like that song you should really check out their latest album of the same name. They use hammer-on notes like that in a lot of their songs like "Oroborus" and "A Sight to Behold". Gojira is the shit.
guess what.. i bought the album after watching this. even if i dont necessarily like it you guys deserve it. although what i am hearing so far is promising.
sick man, too bad there isnt a live music community ovcer ther like there is in queenstown, nz, im 15 and ive played infront of 4500 people, and im opening for the doobie brothers.
I stumbled upon Car Bomb thanks to Pandora at work one day. I was fucking blown away. It's abrasiveness distracted me from the fucked up pattern of my day and life at the time and honestly, I can't understand how people don't at last APPRECIATE this music or these musicians. I hate country - I appreciate it. Its music, like it or not. This is an awesome perspective of what the life is truly like and gives me such a greater feeling of pride for being a listener/fan of this kind of music.
Hands down one of the most incredible things on the internet. Dudes, no matter how many shitty tours you have to spend your money on and no matter how little recognition you get, you are doing something amazing and you have have done something amazing in making this documentary. You are great musicians and genuinely modest individuals, that gives you more credibility then any mundane pop artist. Never give up your dream no matter how much it costs you haha.
As someone who has aspired since I was a kid in middle school of going out there and playing metal, this was awesome. I had heard of your band before this, but it's nice to take a band name and put some humanity to it.
Just brilliant film, great job. Pretty sure most of the comments are from people in bands, I as well. It's a real struggle getting music out especially this kind of music. Good that some light gets shed onto this subject.
@m4ssee Agreed 100% And i think all working musicians fully share those sentiments as well. Sometimes it seems like you can only truly be appreciated by fans when you are not successful, and then they always say "man, if only X band were huge". But as soon as X band gets huge, the same fan will claim that they have "sold out". Learn to appreciate the bands that are out there doing this, and support the bands, if you don't buy the cd, then at least buy merch at shows!
@michaelDefferner thanks for making this! i hope it helps elevate Car Bomb to the status you all deserve, A guy i know introduced me to you all a few years ago, and i've tried to get everyone else i know who is into metal interested in you all. Can't wait to hear a new album!
What can i say, it's amazing how Michael Dafferner tells why he loves this, and everyone who is playing in a metal band surely will appreciate this! thanks man!
The "why" of leading this life has never been a mystery to me. Creating & performing music is not something you do, it is who you are.The reality is that more bands are forgotten than will become famous, so at the end of the day it is about living your life being true to yourself, & the connection with those with whom your work resonates. The movie talks about selling out, to me the ultimate form of selling out is not being true to who you are and expressing that through what you love.
I work 2 days a week on minimum wage and go to school the rest of the days, and all I spend my money on is rent, food, my rented guitar and metal gigs. And I would GLADLY pay to see CAR BOMB live!! And I know that I'm not alone! Just get the word out to us when you're in town.

its not easy to get out of the tiny little box of working a daily job from 8~18 (yes my job sucks) but every single rewarding job requires a whole lot of persistance and stupidity and often pays little or no money. thats why I respect you guys, just for being able to keep doing what many like me wants to do but have no balls to di it. I just got here tru a lamb of god tweet, I think it menas that people really appreciate your work. keep it up!

If the masses loved metal it would probably suck, thus a sense of brotherhood in the metal community.
You also have to remember how dumb the majority of the population is.
Metal heads know it is the best music. No it isn't fair that hacks like lil wayne and drake make bank for their idiocy

Murdertrain007 1 month ago
Thank you so much for this. For years I have been trying to figure out how to create the music I love without hemorrhaging money, all the while wondering if that was the right choice. This has given me encouragement and I will definitely be sharing it with all of my musician friends.

That shit at 42:51 is blowin my fuckin mind. Amazing. Anyone know the song?
XadaTen 1 month ago
@XadaTen I believe that is Vacuity, by Gojira. It's an amazing song.

@XadaTen
wait...just kidding. That's "toxic garbage island"
Murdertrain007 1 month ago
@XadaTen That's the sort of outro part to Gojira's "The Way of All Flesh" off of the album "The Way of All Flesh." It's an incredible song. The whole album is amazing.
xBearJewx2112 1 month ago
@XadaTen The song is "The Way of All Flesh" by Gojira. If you like that song you should really check out their latest album of the same name. They use hammer-on notes like that in a lot of their songs like "Oroborus" and "A Sight to Behold". Gojira is the shit.

@XadaTen The Way of All Flesh, last track of the album with the same title. One of the best albums money can buy.

This is an awesome perspective of what the life is truly like and gives me such a greater feeling of pride for being a listener/fan of this kind of music.

awesome! fucking support all the bands mentioned
i remember reading about lamb of god, and how shitty their life was when they were recording their first album. glad they made it to the top

The guy with the cowboy hat speaks the truth. People have completely wrong idea about "selling out".
m4ssee 1 month ago 22
@m4ssee Agreed 100% And i think all working musicians fully share those sentiments as well. Sometimes it seems like you can only truly be appreciated by fans when you are not successful, and then they always say "man, if only X band were huge". But as soon as X band gets huge, the same fan will claim that they have "sold out". Learn to appreciate the bands that are out there doing this, and support the bands, if you don't buy the cd, then at least buy merch at shows!

@m4ssee Thanks for saying so... I'm happy to have been a part of this documentary!

CrudusViscus 1 month ago

I just got here tru a lamb of god tweet, I think it menas that people really appreciate your work. keep it up!
