On the British version of this show, the gay guy is called Big Gay Following. All he does is go around asking radom blokes "Fancy a bum?", which I think is boring. This guy is more creative...and cuter, too. If I was gay, I'd do him!
By the way, do this numerous gay acts really exist? (Fuck you inthe ear, fuck you in the armpit, come in your eye...) Weird.
Big Gay Following is fairly limited with his comedy, but for me he has delivered the best scene in the whole British series. In the episode he gets a chair delivered to his house, he asks the bloke to bring it to his cellar and when the guy walks in with The BGF, turns on the light in the cellar and there's a load of gimbo suits and bondage stuff going on. The delivery man is pretty much speechless and gets out of there as fast as possible haha. The reaction is amazing.
there seems to be a lot of this style of comedy getting around but its going to end in tears somebody is going to get sent to the emergency ward with all limbs brocken and bleeding
It's a joke people. If you see a funny video of some guy being the stereotype straight macho-man weight lifter type do you whine about it or do you laugh?
If you're intelligent I hope you just laugh, and realise that the video is not trying to suggest that all straight guys are like that. So why should this be any different?
@JordanatVirginMobile this is fucking hilarious. And I'm pretty sure most people look up this vid because they think it's funny and they don't care about some comments posted sticking up for gays.
The thing that makes this wrong is that the joke is at the expense of gay people. In a lot of the other skits they do, the joke is the reaction of the people who are in an uncomfortable situation. This perpetuates the idea that gay guys try and pick up straight men. Have you seen most of them? Puuuuuulese.
The thing that makes this wrong (aside from not being funny) is that the joke is at the expense of gay people. Have you seen most of them? Puuuuuulese.
@rhysnicholson What a stupid thing to do at such a crucial time for the GLBT community.
Just as the gay community is FINALLY finding a sense of belonging in today's society. This validates people continuing to call us (and to see us as), "faggots", "predatory", "sex addicted", "seedy",etc., and to laugh about our community.
I'm all for comedy, but not when it's done using an entire community of VERY diverse people as easy game. Media gives society the rights to marginalise us via its words.
@rhysnicholson Yes I realise that it's you in the clip. Does that make it all better? In my opinion, your clip provides potential fodder for people in society who marginalise us. Now don't get me wrong, I am certain that if this were intended for an exclusively gay audience (minus the totally mortified straight guys), we'd cringe and chuckle and that'd be all good, because we understand that it's all for shits and giggles. But this was set to be viewed by general public.
@pie141au Hey mate, i don't get your argument. Are you saying a single gay character in a comedy skit has to represent the whole gay community (no offence to Rhys but he'll never represent the bear community)? Also are you saying that gay comic must limit his material in his act if a straight person is in the audience, or should he ban the straights from his gigs altogether?
@jusichunt I don't believe the character represents much of the gay community at all, nor should he. In terms of limiting a comic's material, I'm all for good stand-up and intelligently written sketches, but if it's at the expense of a group of people that are being marginalised BASED on the twisted beliefs that people hold about them... that's not so good. If someone made a sketch like this based on a stereotyped Aboriginal character, they'd be 'dragged over the coals' (metaphorically) by media
@rhysnicholson (cont.) With many young GLBT people struggling with their sexuality (many in very oppressive environments), a sketch that depicts a young gay man soliciting from a van and a BBQ is not exactly in good taste. It reinforces the stupid stereotype that gay people are seedy, sex addicted, and (this is a big one) the idea that no one is safe from an unwanted sexual advance from a gay person. I have no problems with you (don't know you), but please be more sensitive to real life issues.
@pie141au So using the term "us" and "general public" isn't marginalising? So it's us against them? I was only able to say things like that because i have learnt to be totally comfortable with myself. Being over sensitive is the problem. It's a fucking comedy character. I said things that i thought was funny. Why should something be censored because it might offend a group of people. Whinging about it only makes "us" seem weaker.
@rhysnicholson I'm really glad that you have become totally comfortable with who you are, so too have I.
In my opinion, your sketch paints the CLASSIC 'us' and 'them' scenario. A gay man solicits young straight men from a van. The distinction is polar, in fact.
There will be young people who are struggling with their sexuality (unlike you or I), and people who are ignorant. This could potentially affect them.
@rhysnicholson Hey Rhys - I think your comedy is great - very cute and very cheeky - and btw - I am gay - and not even young - but I think it's time we learn to enjoy even very irreverent humor - and if we do - a lot of our friends in the straight world will laugh with us - not at us. There is a time and place for gay activism - but I love how you let yourself go in your skits. Your critics haven't yet understood your power - it takes guts to be you!!!!
haha fuck i cant even watch this.
