  • I love it. :)

  • I found here at YT a wonderful piece.. i don't know what's the name of it but you will see it at 0:37 it at fibreromance channel, hope you could do a tutorial of this! :D

  • Very interesting. The puff stitch is a new one for me. Will have to practice. I love your hook handle. What is it and where did you get it from?

  • This is cute thank you. This is my next project.

  • every time i try to do this scarf my puffs come out all weird looking slanted and not very neat and i have crochet for some time now what am i doing wrong

  • @sephra510 Is it possible you are missing stitches? Is your row count the same each row?

  • i had started to make this scarf and i'm at the fifth row already..but why does it getting smaller from the first row? Did u make a single CH after each puff?

  • Omg need help how do I repair a afghan it is coming undone right in the center of it any ideas

  • @hraa2003 You will need to clean up, secure and knot each row that is coming apart. This will stop it from coming apart any further. You will need to fill in and re-crochet the stitches that are missing.

  • Quick question how do u add.yarn to the puff stitcj

  • Because there is little controls over the yarn with this stitch I did 5 instead of 9. When you start off you want to have a very loose beginning chain so you can easily fit thru your puff stitch.

  • @Ambiguos3 Your beginning chain should not be tight. Not only will it make it difficult to work through your chain, it is the reason that many projects get wider as you work your project.

  • The video moved too fast for me at first but after a few replays,I finally got it:D

  • foregive me: i found it!

  • Help! It keeps ending up to tight and I don't like the look of it! How do you do yours so loose?!

  • @katweena3578 I have a tutorial I will send you showing how to make a loose puff stitch.

  • So i'm trying to do this but failing miserably, my stitches are coming out super tight. What am I doing wrong ?

  • @gloriaa1102 I sent you a video on how to make a puffy puff stitch. It is making the loops on the hook loose.

  • @tjw1963 thank youu

  • @tjw1963 i'm soo excited i just finished my first row ! thnxz a million

  • Thank you =)

  • Would I be able to do less than 9 stitches on each puff stitch?

  • @gloriaa1102 You can do less than 9 loops

  • This scarf is beautiful, and very easy with your guidance. Is the any way you could make a video for a matching beret. As always I enjoy your videos.

  • Thank you

  • How long did this take you, I only have 1month until December and need to make 3, plus do AP Calculus.

  • @0p0a0s4 You should be able to have it done in a few hours.

  • I can't pull my hook through the 9 stitches!!! it's all too tight, no matter how hard I try!! I can't get past my first puff stitch.. AAAHHHH!!

  • @sylvianblue MEE too!!!! grrr!! she makes it look so easy! i dont know what im doing wrong when i try to pul on the yarn to make the loops bigger,it just makes a huge hole in the chain!

  • @sylvianblue I have a tutorial showing how to make puffy puff stitches. The technique will help you learn how to keep the loops looser on your crochet hook. I will send you the link for the tutorial.

  • @tjw1963 I'm having the same problem with my 9 loops coming out too tight. I'd like to see on how you are holding on to the yarn with your left hand. I've tried this over and over and over that the second chain is now a big hole.

  • ty for showing us...great pattern :)

  • @dungquynh81 You are welcome.

  • @tjw1963 what color yarn are you using?

  • Beautiful!!! Thank you for your videos.

  • @BrangerLove You are welcome.

  • Thanks so much for your videos...I normally don't have any trouble doing any stitch but this one has me baffled! you make it look so easy, but I can't do this one and it is very frustrating! Any suggestions? My daughter really would like a puff stitch scarf but I don't seem to be able to make it happen!

  • @DebHughes63 I have a video focusing on the puff stitch. It should help you complete the scarf. I am sending you the link.

  • I want to make this for baby daughter. What width do you think I need?

  • Thanks so much for your videos. You made it so easy for me.I cannot wait to try!

  • Teresa, thanks for all of your videos & patterns online...you do a wonderful job and your instructions are incredibly easy to follow!! Thanks so much for sharing!

  • @LJscrubs You are welcome! :)

  • Hi Teresa! I love your videos you explain things so well! I was wondering is it possible to make the scarf multi-colored? I wanted to make one using my school colors :)

  • @proudlatina1985 Yes you can make the scarf multi color. When you get to the edge, you will cut a tail, pull it through and secure. You will attached a the new color with a slip stitch and continue crocheting the same.

  • Hi Teresa,

I wanted to make a baby blanket with this puff stitch. How many SC should I do and would I make it the same way as the scarf directions? I am still a beginner too so I was hoping if you can tell me how to make this into an easy baby blanket I'd appreciate it :)

  • @Liss77 Yes, you can make this in to a baby afghan. I would estimate a chain of 125-150

  • Where do you get your crochet hooks at? I have not seen this type with the rubberized handle, only bamboo handles. Is this something you actually slide on and off or did it come this way?

  • @Apricotic The crochet hook grips are my own modification using a pencil grip and flexi wrap, which is a medical self adhering tape. This way you can take the grips off to see what size the crochet hook is.

  • Hi Teresa,

Thanks to your videos, now I can make a lot of stuff...but mostly rectangular...

If you don't mind, can you add some more videos for making pouches for example...maybe with this puff stitch....thanks....always love your works!!!

  • thank you! this was so easy to understand (:

  • @31ilovemusic You are welcome! :)

  • how do u get ur grips to stay on the hooks?

  • @nclark032708 I use plastic tubing in this tutorial. I am making a new tutorial that will show an alternative method.

  • what would the multiply be if i wanted to make this into a baby blanket?

  • @mrsowens0515 The multiple is 2. I would estimate a chain of 125-165 for a baby afghan.

  • This is really helpful :)

  • I really appreciate the detail of the instruction. Very clear, very concise and repeated sufficiently to reinforce.... thankyou SO much! I was worried this skill would die in family with the passing of my Gran But I'm determined to keep it alive

  • @jgeorgitsis I did not realize that crochet was becoming a lost art, until I started posting here on YouTube. I was doing it all the time and thought everyone else was too. I was wrong about that!

  • You can explain and show so well how to do ...! please can you make a video, how to crochet a scarf? Please ....... greetings

  • @bubimissi This is a scarf

  • @tjw1963 I was thinking of shawl !!! sorry :-) thank you for everithing

  • thank you :)))

  • @tjw1963 I've found that doing it myself is much more rewarding, and I'm getting to relax and unwind from the stress of the day at the same time. Sure I could go and buy someone else's work, but seeing as I'm just starting out and don't have many clients I'd prefer to save the $ and learn a life long skill in the process. :) It's something I can pass on to my children (when I have them). Again, thank you!

  • I really appreciate your videos! I'm a photographer and have decided to make my own blankets for babies and young children for my shoots and your videos have made things so much easier to understand! Thanks for your hard work!

  • @whimperingcat Thank you! I do get a lot of project requests from photographers so they can make their own baby props.

  • so pretty! im going to take a deep breath and go for it!

  • Teresa I daecied a while back to learn crochet to try to make slippers like my grandma use to. I followed ur vider on slippers and it was not quiet right grandmas slippers were more round so i started with a circle and followed ur pattern and perfection!!Since then i have made beanies scarfs puff stitch hats and even a granny square baby blanket. Now every night while watching tv i crochet. I have a list of things my friends and family want me to make them! You are awesome. Thank you so much!!

  • very nice i'll try to do it now

  • Is this scarf a good idea for a man?

  • @TAM3164 As with any article of clothing, it would depending on the man.

  • the video keeps stopping and i love the scarf but it's hard to follow

  • How long is the scarf?

  • @tamagosan I am estimating about 4.5'. You can easily make it longer.

  • @tjw1963 Thank you!:)...Im going to try this...its a super cute pattern!:)

  • you blow me away by how fast you even make the beginning chains..i cant hold my yarn like you do ..lol..

  • @69booyaa If you are a beginner, I recommend that you become familiar with the basic stitches of crochet first and then come back to this pattern. It will make it much easier for you and reduce your frustration.

  • im having problem with my scarf project, it rolled up on both side. I didnt know what did i do wrong. I used size 10 needle and worsted weight yarn.Does it have to do with my needle or the tension while i knitted. Please help

  • @LovetoKnitable I am not clear on what you mean by it rolled up on the sides? Please provide more detail?

  • this puff stitch scarf is so cute! Great video! What should I do if I want to make it a circle/infinity scarf? What kind of stitch should I use to connect the two ends? Thank you so much.

  • very easy!!!

  • @vschouten Yes it is!

  • I think I will try this for the baby blanket I am making. I was just going to make a square, but I changed my mind!

  • @DaddysGirl3181 - did you start the baby blanket with this stitch? If so, can you tell us how it's going? I want to make a baby blanket for a friend, bought some yarn that I liked - Patons Canadiana Morocco. Thank you.

  • @elainebitt What I am doing is the puff stitch, then two rows of single crochet. I didn't like how it looked with just all of the puff stitch.

  • @DaddysGirl3181 - thank you for your reply. It does sound interesting the way you're doing, I shall try that.

  • @elainebitt Your welcome. It really bugs me when people don't reply when someone asks a question

  • Hi Teresa, your tutorials are so comprehensive, I'm a beginner and I never thought I'd be to do this kind of work, much less any work, crocheting 411 is coming from you so you seemed like the best person to ask, I did the puff stitch hat and the scarf to match, I just finished them, I want to add some letters, just crochet in "DAD" at the end of the scarf and I have no idea how to pursue doing it, do you have a tutorial, preferably a video tutorial since they are the most comprehensive for me.

  • Ohhhh man this one is frustrating me so much! I have tried so many times and what I seem to be having the most trouble with is getting the final stitch on a puff back through all 9 loops. It looks like hell. I know practice makes perfect but I think I am doing something wrong. Grr at you, puff stitch!

  • @jenmonsterbox My suggestion is for you to pull your loops up, until your hook is horizontal to your work. This will make the loops loose enough to pull your hook through all of the stitches. I will send you a video showing this technique.

  • @tjw1963 Thank you - I am still having trouble but I am pretty sure it is user error. I tend to over-complicate things and I'm a perfectionist so I will (hopefully) get the hang of it eventually. I really appreciate your special attention in attempt to help me!

  • @jenmonsterbox What you can do is keep practicing and not give up! I did the same thing with the puff stitch when I was learning. When you loosen up your grip, it makes it easier on your hands and your stitches. Your ah-ha moment will come with this stitch and many more stitches!!

  • @tjw1963 I GOT IT!!! I don't know at what point I got it, but I got it and I am sooooo happy :) Thanks for putting forth the effort for all these videos. You are wonderful!

  • @jenmonsterbox I am glad that you got it!!

  • @tjw1963 - did you send her the video you mention above? I'd like to see it, I am having the same problem. Thanks.

  • @elainebitt Yes I sent the link. If you look in the first few seconds of the video, there is a yellow annotation that will take you to the same video.

  • @tjw1963 - thanks Teresa, I see it now.

  • hi Teresa I <3 ur videos but I do have one question why skip a space why not just do a stitch in every space? PS you r really good!

  • @AlexandraAshleyXX The foundation row will be full and the scarf will be to narrow at the beginning. This will create a distorted beginning that is smaller and then becomes wider as you crochet further in the project. It is about evenly distributing the stitches so the shape remains consistent.

  • @tjw1963 oh thankx

  • I was hopeless at crocheting...until I watched this video

please keep making these awesome and SUPER helpful videos.

everyone else on youtube sucks at explaining

  • @scarlettin I appreciate the comment, thank you.

  • are there stiches that are good for men.

  • @crazy4GMH The single crochet is the best masculine stitch. Some people will use the basketweave stitch.

  • What size needle do you suggest for this project and any other similar scarves? I have never crocheted before if that makes any difference.

  • Im so glad I found your site.I've been trying to teach myself with various magazines which cost a fortune and have failed miserably. I have finished this hat and am so pleased with it. Would you have video for a teddy bear or soft toy for a complete beginner. You really are a genius.

  • @MyStorm999 I have a small crochet bear and will send you the link.

  • @tjw1963 Thank you. I am housebound after illness and you have become my new best friend. As I am just learning how all this works, where does the link appear. Sorry to be so dumb about computer technology.

  • @MyStorm999 I will send you the link for the bear. You can also use the YouTube search to find crochet projects on my channel. For example you would type "crochet bear tjw1963", then hit search. Another way to search is on my profile page, uploads.

  • I love your videos! This is a great stitch for a scarf!! thank you!

    And i agree, you're a great teacher!

  • Thank you sooooo much, I love it!!! :)

Made this scarf and beautiful beret for my friend mom, I am sure she will love it!!!!

    Merry Christmas!

  • @ksusha734 I appreciate the comment, thank you!

  • Thank you sooooo much, I love it!!!

Made this scarf and beautiful beret for my friend mom, I am sure she will love it!!!!

    Merry Christmas!

  • There is an annotation in this video on how to make the puff stitch puffy. The video will show how to make the stitch with ease and prevent your hook from getting stuck.

  • 12 people can't figure out how to hold the needle

  • @carbonxcopy666 it doesn`t mean that they don`t know to hold the needle if they disliked this video...i love it and i don`t hold the needle that way... :D

  • @carbonxcopy666 I cant either..i have very long fingers and i just cant hold the stitches still on the hook while holding the yard the way she does with the left hand...very annoying...i think im limited to the basic single and double crochet stitches..lol

  • I'm am trying to make this for a friend as a christmas present and i wonder if its a good pattern. there are so many scarf crochet patterns and i dont know which to pick. would u recommend me doing this one? is it thick?

  • @chibimisumi This crochet scarf would make a beautiful gift!

  • I love your videos. Your great in making tutorial. I made a scarf for my granny this winter. Thanks to you... :)

  • @shirlsvero You are welcome.

  • You're amazing!! You make this look so easy. I'm having a hard time crocheting this pattern.

  • @Nhung05 What are you finding difficult?

  • @tjw1963 I'm having a hard time too..I can't manage to get it loose enough..I'm having a hard time pulling through after the 9th loop....Is there something I'm doing wrong?

  • @amandauhl I have a video that I will send you that show how to make a puffy puff stitch.

  • @tjw1963 Thanks so much :-)

  • @amandauhl I take it you go the video! Sometimes I never know if they get sent.

  • I love your videos Teresa and you have inspired me to take up crochet again. My mother taught me as a child so it has been many many yeats since I last held a hook!! I'm starting off again doing simple projects and am loving it although am getting a wee bit frustrated .... I'm doing a scarf in SC and breaking it up every few rows with rows of DC! Its looking good EXCEPT my edges where I finish off rows are not looking very tidy and its spoiling the look of it!! Please what am I doing wrong??? x

  • @IrishCol1only If the previous stitch is not aligned quite right, that may be the problem. It could also be the stitch tension.

  • @tjw1963 Thank you so much for your reply! I think you may be right in that the stitch tension may not be right ... its been so long since I did any crochet that I am still working on getting the hang of it again but thank you for inspiring me to take it up again after all these years! Practice makes perfect I guess!! :)

  • @IrishCol1only Something else to keep in mind is to work an edging around the scarf if the edges are not quite up to par. The Puff Stitch edges can be tricky.

  • @tjw1963 Thanks for this, I was actually thinking today that I will work an edging in as no matter how many times I rip out rows and redo them, the edges still are not straight. The start off row is fine, its where I am ending the row for some reason it looks untidy and would be quite noticeable so I think an edging will disguise this!! :D Thanks again for all your help and great tutorials! xxx

  • I have to share this with you - I started knitting a few months ago...made a few things then started looking for videos for knitting hats - and found a TON on crochet hats - so I thought, let me try that. I looked on youtube - because that's how I taught myself anyway - bought some crochet hooks and took right off. I had a dream last night that I crochet'd an abundance of things for Christmas this year! lol...I just want to thank you for sharing your expertice on here & teaching me so much!!

  • @whamilton1973 It is so happy to hear that you learned how to crochet. I appreciate the comment.

  • I have never crocheted before in my life, and now I'm 25 rows into this scarf. Will be sending it as a christmas present to my marine in Afghanistan. Thank you so much for the wonderful video.

  • @woodlandfairy This is very touching! My son is in Afghanistan too. Please share a picture on my Facebook page before you send the scarf.

  • can i make half wide? its a little to big for me...

  • @supernanchita Yes, the crochet puff stitch scarf can easily be worked half the width.

  • As usual, you make this look so easy, Teresa! I'm making this scarf to accompany a small hat I'm making for my friend's 1-year-old baby. I'm using a Red Heart Super Saver multicolored yarn (Shaded Dusk), and the darker portions of the yarn are a heck of a lot more "grabby" and hard than the lighter colored portions, but I'm about ready to throw the whole ball of work out of the window!

  • @cascadejacques While I am a fan of some Red Heart yarn, my thoughts are that some of the larger super saver yarns are crummy to work with. They feel rough and the strands come apart.

  • my shell stitch beanie project didnt quite work out so I'm gonna come back to it later lol but this scarf is surprisingly easy..on row 3 now! :)

  • I am learning to crochet , just I want to say "THANK YOU" for all your great videos.

  • @Dominicangirlp You are welcome! :)

  • i have only one questio

i'm doing stripes with a dark blue a light blue and a lighter blue and i swuitch every 15th row...but all i do to switch colors is i cut the first yarn and tie on the second color...i'm making the knot as sturdy as possible...i don't want it to untie and it's for a christmas friend so do you know i a way i could make it so it doesn't loosen up and also how do i get rid of the ends so it doens't look like i actually tied them together

  • @stephywuffy You will need to sew and weave the ends between the stitches. Make sure you have secure knots so it does not come apart.

  • @tjw1963

okay thanks i'll try this video has REALLY come in handy by the way YOU'RE LIKE THE BEST AND i improved my cocheting just watching you

  • i have done so many of this scarf...its so puffy and warm, i just wnt to say a big thankyou to you for bringing this pattern to us...i wuld also wnt to knw if u take requests...if u do, could you pls pls pls make a tutorial on how to make a crochet shrug kinda vest, thank you once more for all the help, Love you

  • Your tuts just rock!! Anyone who has a little basic knowledge of the art, can grasp so easily !! Love them !

  • @cbinsento I appreciate the comment, thank you! :)

  • Yes I have seen it, as I say, I am perfectly able to make the hats, just not the starting stitches in this scarf.

  • I have tried to do this so many times, but I just can not get my hook through the 9 loops... the more I try to 'lift' my loops after each yo, the tighter the others go.

Such a shame because I can make the Puff stitch hats without any problems at all, and I wanted to make a scarf to go with them. :(

  • @KnikittaRunes Have you seen the tutorial called "How to make a puffy puff stitch"? It may help you see how to keeps the loops loose so you can pull the yarn through all the stitches.

  • This is such a fun, beautiful concept! I'm going to try making a choker with this stitch. One thing I've learned in the process is to loosen up [my stitches] a bit, cuz pulling yarn through 9 loops is not easy if they're all so uptight... :)

Thank you Teresa!! You're so wonderful!

  • @aliceisms I do have a tutorial showing how I work the puff stitch keeping it loose. It is called How to work a puffy puff stitch.

  • excellent !!! thanks ,i love this ..

  • @jacktwist71 Thank you.

  • Awesome...thaks

  • i love this stitch im going to use this stitch for my projects....i have a question teresa can u make baby hats with this stitch or will it be too heavy?

  • @pisceslicious This stitch will work for a baby. Maybe use less loops with each stitch so it is not as heavy. You can always use 2 or 3 ply yarn, which is really light weight and would be ideal for a baby.

  • awesome training video..very well done and easy to understand........thank you so much for sharing!

  • @angelahadtwins You are welcome.

  • I am so glad to see this is the stitch I have been looking for, I have a Christmas stocking with this stitch, but don't know how to put it into a stocking. I bought this stocking about 15 years ago and want to make more like it. Can you tell me how to put this stitch to a Christmas stocking?

  • @pays2kissntell You are looking for a puff stitch Christmas Stocking?

  • @tjw1963

Yes I could send you a pic of the one I bought 10 years ago, and am pretty sure it is the puff stitch but I don't know how to make the Christmas Stocking or how to make my on pattern. Can you help

    Marina

  • @pays2kissntell You can post the image on my Facebook page. Thank you.

  • Your amazing! I'm going to try this and hopefully it comes out right! How long does it usually take you to make the scarf?

  • yes !now that makes sense! alternate , okay i will try it ! =) maybe single crochet 3 rows down then puff stitch! single crocheeeeeet then puff stitch!!! thanks bunches ! you are 1 in a kazillion !!! =) or will the single crochet be low to carry over to the next stitch i might have to "chain up" (increase) 2- 3 after each single crochet hmmm wait! if i double crochet that should give me length to carry me over huh? i hope that makes sense let me know when ya get a chance =)

  • hello to the mother of all crocheters here in you tube land what I love about your vids is that when I really want peace of mind in the world of crocheting & need a guided needle u are here as of now I am working on a project for some one and ran across your vid & guess what? I did not know that when I do this stitch it was called puff stitch! can I use this stitch to make leg warmers I'm assuming you can but it might not really keep ones legs warm due to the gaps in the stitch? thanks

  • @stringsofserenyti Yes, you can use this stitch to make leg warmers. I have several afghans that have some gaps between stitches and they keep me nice and warm. Maybe you could work double crochet, alternating the puff stitch if you wanted stitches closer together.

  • your awsome

  • Very beautiful! one question could you change stitch looks for one blanket. If so do you have a tutorial i could see?

  • how many chains would it take to make a small blanket for a baby

  • Very Pretty/very cool!!

  • @Patricia43311 Thank you.

  • Hi there! I have never crotcheted before but after watching this I went and purchased yarn and a needle and I am now on the 8th row of my scarf! Thanks for the great vids! Excited to make a hat next.

  • I've never finished a project in my entire life as I would always get bored, confused or discouraged but thanks to Teresa's tutorials, I am now on my second ripple crochet afghan and this puff stitch scarf looks like something my best friend would absolutely adore. Thank you so much!
