I used to get so furious back in my CoD4 days when it took 15mins to get an Aus/NZ party together so that we could get a game going with a green connection (otherwise it went to a US host = laggy)
Now I dream of those days because even though it took a little longer to get once we had an Aus/NZ host the connection and hit registration was sharp and crisp and the game rarely dropped out (because the host didnt want to leave due to his advantage)

@GamingMan96 u know? I kept messing around and changed MTU ONLY IN ROUTER to 1472 (cause didnt fragmented when pinging) and it got a lot better, also changed my PS3 DNS's to the ones that namebench suggests and it got better, I'm gonna disable the theater mode to see if any change happens...

When you're in a lobby with a bunch of .35-.65 k/d players, and they tan your hyde, and then talk shit like they're something decent when they're not---yeah, it gets rather irritating.
...of IW, MW3 is basically Black Ops in Modern Warfare's skin. It's unacceptable and unless they resort to dedicated servers or resurrect the same setup as MW2 and its prior games, I speak for many gamers when I say I've had enough. I play MW3 because it's what everyone's playing and I paid £90 for it. I blamed solely Treyarch for the crapness of BO, but they won't fool me twice. That IW thing must have hit them hard to need assistance from Sledgehammer, Raven AND Treyarch. And it shows.
...know what I found out? You can really tell from the quality of this game, that losing West and Zampella and their best staff, Modern Warfare was left to the dogs. I don't know if anyone's noticed, but at the end of MW3's campaign, during the credits, there's a "thanks" to Treyarch for their help creating the game. I think we have a reason for the Black Ops-esque issues that plague this game. They were never apparent in MW1 or 2, as you mentioned, and coincidentally, after the fuck-up...
@StealthyCarrrot If you prefer Treyarch's games then that's your preference; fair enough. But actually you're wrong, Treyarch DID help with the multiplayer. You can find it in the credits of MW3 when IW thank Treyarch personally for their assistance. They didn't advertise it because Activision didn't want IW looking understaffed and incapable.

@AK47Sh0oter Servers wont solve the whole problem. It would help some of the lag, but if you have battlefield you'l know servers aren't all 'that', you still shoot people with half a clip before the game registers sometimes. It can just be as bad as cod only there is no obvious lag. We need locale search that will ONLY search for players NEAR you. Near meaning the same country, not in Germany so foreigners can get in games easier and then we all have to suffer with their high ping.

why in the sams hell did they remove the option for lobby search locations (aka local, world wide and so on). they did not need to add lag comp. they ruined this game.
i have virgin fibre optic, i get host in 80% of the games i go into - which usually result in me finishing every game with about 15 assists because i can't kill anyone and they drop me instantly.

From the start of most games I usually complain about something... but now I have 10,800 kills in search and I'm 10th... and I still find this game completely difficult to play. 5 year old retarded kids go 20-0 and I can go 0-5 against them even though I know the maps and have a great reaction time... I get killed when im behind cover, I get lag compensated, and so on... I play every other cod and there wasn't any lag compensation... if there was it wasn't noticeable.

There would be NO need what-so-ever for Lag Compensation if you every lobby you connected too didn't have foreigners in it. Foreigners meaning players that aren't from UK. Hosts I get are generally from the UK but if we have say Spanish or Dutch players in the lobby we ALL have to suffer. The reason being, they live further away from the host so higher ping, increasing everyones ping due to Lag comp'. Solution: Country only servers. No language barrier or rarely bad conns.

@peunutt007 There never is Asian players in lobbies. Hence why you don't see Japanese/Chinese names. It's close, but not that close + it's also across-sea. (Hence why USA hosts give UK 1-2 bar connections) So eitherway a Dutch player in a UK lobby is going to have higher ping instead of a UK only lobby meaning everyone suffers. Not very fair. I don't see why not? They make hundreds of millions each game thats released.

Rarely any lag and no language barriers from people screaming "no english" down a mic they got in a christmas cracker etc. Or maybe if they done the same with what they did with B/O. @RoflBrunz Solution: Good networking system, OPTIONAL locale filters and no lag compensation. It is the logical solution not to penalize people with good connections. Also, while a you people get high speed cons, lots of you have horrible latencies. Connection speed is not the only thing you have to worry about. My con. is 10Mb up/down and latency only up to 20ms across most of Europe. That's less than what most people with 60Mb cons have.
@LaughinGarry The optional locale filters didn't work very well in black ops so if they did that again it would badly need upgraded. Yeah I agree and I know what you mean. I get roughly 32MB with 25ms and I'm also in europe. Oh does it? It must need upgrading aswell then, because I've come across lobbies with almost every continent apart from Asia etc. All depends what time you play.
@RoflBrunz I'm from Czech Republic (which is in the middle of Europe, so I get good ping with pretty much everyone) but I was able to play only with people from Czech Republic. That meant 5-10 mins to find a game and the same 20 players over and over. No matter what time. Optional locale is only an option when there players with good pings from your country. If not, you're going to play with people with the best ping available from ANY country. CoD's poor networking is the real issue.
@LaughinGarry Your own ping is pretty good (20ms you said), but once you connect to say a Dutch host your ping goes up. It's like trying to do a speedtest and not clicking "begin" where it finds a server closest to you. Instead click in a random country far from you, your ping can go up to 300+. If we have a few players with ping like that in a lobby, it takes the average(lag compensation) meaning it's going to be pretty high and balance it out for others. It's unfair. Yeah bad networking i agre
@RoflBrunz For me, most of USA gets around 150, players farther away from me in Asia up to 200, usually around 160-180. That is still playable BTW. In no way do I get 300 withing EU.
BTW the lag compensation doesn't balance it out. It gives you exactly the amount of latency the worst connection measured. But latency keeps moving. So if Activision weren't a bunch of dicks, they would realize that in the end, that player with the worst connection will have the least laggy game.
@jfreakgaming13 It's been the same case in every cod I'm afraid. I played in a lobby against a French team yesterday, everyone on my team had 4 bars and the french team had 3 and the amount of lag was like a 2 bar it was crazy., After about 5-6 games the host changed and the French players got it. Now they were all on 4 bars and we were on 3 and lagging hard. Why was this? They stay further from the UK host so we all had to suffer. We don't need foreign players in lobbies..

I would say i have a bad connection, my ps3 is in the basement using wireless connection to an old crappy D-Link DI-524 router which is located one floor above me, signal is 50%, every online game lag, i lag in MW3. Every match is the same for me aswell, when i meet an enemy i shoot an entire clip to him, but he kills me, killcam shows 1-3 second delay, wtf?

@ungreat009 How fast you download and upload doesn't really matter once you get past the bare minimum. The actual data being transferred is not much at all.
@ungreat009 its worse now. so basically, when patch 1.08 came out if you have a beter connection or are the host. you literally lag out into super slow mode. Like your move slow enough for the enemy to ads at your head. happened to me 3 times in MW3.

When I play black ops in a server close to me, in which I get pings ranging from 15 to 30, I get extreme lag compensation. On the other hand, when I play in a server far away (200~250ms), I get NO lag compensation at all, it seems like it even goes backwards, and adds even more latency to my connection. When I play on ballistic only servers, I see the animation in where the char kills the opponent dashing and using both blades but he doesn't die, and half a second later I'M DEAD. What can I do?

I feel I get the same disadvantageous effect when I play from my home. However, whenever I play this game at my friend's place or on campus, I tend to do much better. In fact, I notice that my opponents barely get a shot off. I can understand things like poor aim, getting shot from behind, or just not seeing an enemy behind good cover, but this is what I've noticed.
And I thought people had just got 20x better since cod4,mw2 and black ops. Even when using the type 95 it never kills in one burst for me. My connection is 18 down and 2 up and its really bad for me. I have maintained a 1.65 kdr through smart gameplay, but this is a whole 1.00 lower than my black ops, I lose all 1v1 gun fights even if I strafe, hip fire and drop shot, it is incredibly frustrating.
I noticed today that I got into a game that had the ping <100. and for 4 games striaght, I went positive 4.0, 3.6, 7.5 and 5.5. I thought these guys were noobs. But when I played with friends with a 50 ping. It was lagging ridiculously bad, So lag compensation is a gift to people who don't pay much money for their connection and makes everyone lag with good ones lag out. and that's probably why this dude I played against who had a higher score then me barely had a k/d of 2.5. :l

I was playing mw3 the other day when someone else on my connection was downloading giving me a 1 bar connection. On previous call of duty games this would screw me but on mw3 I started dominating. On my screen other peoples guns were not firing properly(As if the rate of fire was halfed) and I ended up getting 44-4 on mission rushing with an lmg. It was ridiculous. Shame I couldnt see what was going on on their screen as I bet a lot of people were going mad.

@AK47Sh0oter Servers wont solve the whole problem. It would help some of the lag, but if you have battlefield you'l know servers aren't all 'that', you still shoot people with half a clip before the game registers sometimes. It can just be as bad as cod only there is no obvious lag. We need locale search that will ONLY search for players NEAR you. Near meaning the same country, not in Germany so foreigners can get in games easier and then we all have to suffer with their high ping.

i have virgin fibre optic, i get host in 80% of the games i go into - which usually result in me finishing every game with about 15 assists because i can't kill anyone and they drop me instantly.

The ones with [IRE] in their clan-tags or players with obvious 'foreign' names such as "Silvino229" are really bad players usually. Trust. Go into a gb search game and attempt to get 1 bullet off on someone when you're hosting... @Bloodwake38 I play competitively aswell, only not reg guns but snipers. Thats when you REALLY notice the lag-compensation when your basically "hard-scoping" someone and it doesnt register. Tip: Don't play foreign players. It's not fair and never will be because of the distance they live.

From the start of most games I usually complain about something... but now I have 10,800 kills in search and I'm 10th... and I still find this game completely difficult to play. 5 year old retarded kids go 20-0 and I can go 0-5 against them even though I know the maps and have a great reaction time... I get killed when im behind cover, I get lag compensated, and so on... I play every other cod and there wasn't any lag compensation... if there was it wasn't noticeable.

Dear Infinity Ward.
There would be NO need what-so-ever for Lag Compensation if you every lobby you connected too didn't have foreigners in it. Foreigners meaning players that aren't from UK. Hosts I get are generally from the UK but if we have say Spanish or Dutch players in the lobby we ALL have to suffer. The reason being, they live further away from the host so higher ping, increasing everyones ping due to Lag comp'. Solution: Country only servers. No language barrier or rarely bad conns.

@peunutt007 There never is Asian players in lobbies. Hence why you don't see Japanese/Chinese names. It's close, but not that close + it's also across-sea. (Hence why USA hosts give UK 1-2 bar connections) So eitherway a Dutch player in a UK lobby is going to have higher ping instead of a UK only lobby meaning everyone suffers. Not very fair. I don't see why not? They make hundreds of millions each game thats released.

@RoflBrunz Trust me, even if 99% of the players signed a petition Activision will not, i repeat, will not implement those kinds of servers... but to implement servers for each country that has internet will cost to much, they might do regional servers for certain parts of a continent but even then they wont do it.

Rarely any lag and no language barriers from people screaming "no english" down a mic they got in a christmas cracker etc. Or maybe if they done the same with what they did with B/O. Done the Locale search when finding a game, even though it didn't work well at all and still put you in games with Germans.

@RoflBrunz Solution: Good networking system, OPTIONAL locale filters and no lag compensation. It is the logical solution not to penalize people with good connections. Also, while a you people get high speed cons, lots of you have horrible latencies. Connection speed is not the only thing you have to worry about. My con. is 10Mb up/down and latency only up to 20ms across most of Europe. That's less than what most people with 60Mb cons have.
Oh and BTW, MW3 DOES have country filters.

@LaughinGarry The optional locale filters didn't work very well in black ops so if they did that again it would badly need upgraded. Yeah I agree and I know what you mean. I get roughly 32MB with 25ms and I'm also in europe. Oh does it? It must need upgrading aswell then, because I've come across lobbies with almost every continent apart from Asia etc. All depends what time you play.

@RoflBrunz I'm from Czech Republic (which is in the middle of Europe, so I get good ping with pretty much everyone) but I was able to play only with people from Czech Republic. That meant 5-10 mins to find a game and the same 20 players over and over. No matter what time. Optional locale is only an option when there players with good pings from your country. If not, you're going to play with people with the best ping available from ANY country. CoD's poor networking is the real issue.

@LaughinGarry Your own ping is pretty good (20ms you said), but once you connect to say a Dutch host your ping goes up. It's like trying to do a speedtest and not clicking "begin" where it finds a server closest to you. Instead click in a random country far from you, your ping can go up to 300+. If we have a few players with ping like that in a lobby, it takes the average(lag compensation) meaning it's going to be pretty high and balance it out for others. It's unfair. Yeah bad networking i agre

@RoflBrunz For me, most of USA gets around 150, players farther away from me in Asia up to 200, usually around 160-180. That is still playable BTW. In no way do I get 300 withing EU.
BTW the lag compensation doesn't balance it out. It gives you exactly the amount of latency the worst connection measured. But latency keeps moving. So if Activision weren't a bunch of dicks, they would realize that in the end, that player with the worst connection will have the least laggy game.

I played in a lobby against a French team yesterday, everyone on my team had 4 bars and the french team had 3 and the amount of lag was like a 2 bar it was crazy., After about 5-6 games the host changed and the French players got it. Now they were all on 4 bars and we were on 3 and lagging hard. Why was this? They stay further from the UK host so we all had to suffer. We don't need foreign players in lobbies..

I would say i have a bad connection, my ps3 is in the basement using wireless connection to an old crappy D-Link DI-524 router which is located one floor above me, signal is 50%, every online game lag, i lag in MW3. Every match is the same for me aswell, when i meet an enemy i shoot an entire clip to him, but he kills me, killcam shows 1-3 second delay, wtf?

It's your ping to the server that matters.

When I play black ops in a server close to me, in which I get pings ranging from 15 to 30, I get extreme lag compensation. On the other hand, when I play in a server far away (200~250ms), I get NO lag compensation at all, it seems like it even goes backwards, and adds even more latency to my connection. When I play on ballistic only servers, I see the animation in where the char kills the opponent dashing and using both blades but he doesn't die, and half a second later I'M DEAD. What can I do?

I feel I get the same disadvantageous effect when I play from my home. However, whenever I play this game at my friend's place or on campus, I tend to do much better. In fact, I notice that my opponents barely get a shot off. I can understand things like poor aim, getting shot from behind, or just not seeing an enemy behind good cover, but this is what I've noticed.

And I thought people had just got 20x better since cod4,mw2 and black ops. Even when using the type 95 it never kills in one burst for me. My connection is 18 down and 2 up and its really bad for me. I have maintained a 1.65 kdr through smart gameplay, but this is a whole 1.00 lower than my black ops, I lose all 1v1 gun fights even if I strafe, hip fire and drop shot, it is incredibly frustrating.

Three months later and the last patch made it worse. And it's already horrifying for PC players who generally have great Internet connections.
This marks the first time I would consider the use of a lag switch legitimate for an enjoyable experience.

I noticed today that I got into a game that had the ping <100. and for 4 games striaght, I went positive 4.0, 3.6, 7.5 and 5.5. I thought these guys were noobs. But when I played with friends with a 50 ping. It was lagging ridiculously bad, So lag compensation is a gift to people who don't pay much money for their connection and makes everyone lag with good ones lag out. and that's probably why this dude I played against who had a higher score then me barely had a k/d of 2.5. :l

I was playing mw3 the other day when someone else on my connection was downloading giving me a 1 bar connection. On previous call of duty games this would screw me but on mw3 I started dominating. On my screen other peoples guns were not firing properly(As if the rate of fire was halfed) and I ended up getting 44-4 on mission rushing with an lmg. It was ridiculous. Shame I couldnt see what was going on on their screen as I bet a lot of people were going mad.
