  • WE played this song last year as a trumpet player it was fun to play but it kinda got old. This band is HUGE i mean 4 bassoons wow!!

  • my band is playing this, and im on percussion...sad face, its really boring

  • Thanks for posting this! I played this piece (trumpet) in high school, way back in 1970/1971. I loved the piece, and have been looking for it, off and on, for the past forty years. I was just wondering if there's some rule that only high school bands can play it; I've never seen or heard it performed by any other groups. Anyway, thanks again, and kudos to the band.

  • this sing gets stuck in my head too often, it gets annoying sometimes even though I somewhat like the song

  • My band is working on this for the Heritage Music Festival in Boston this year. I love playing it, although the double tounging is torturous.

Idk if you know this but in the score (at least my teacher's) it physically says "if the piccolo can't play in tune have the 1st flute play" (Which our piccolo can't, but he's getting better). Great job though. :)

  • Where is this band in? California? Hawaii?

  • @AuroraCelest We're from all over the country really, but the performance took place in Idyllwild, which is in California.

  • @drummerboy1138

Sweet. A national band. Great experience.

  • our bands playing this song :) its creepy as hell but i love it! and just saying its very difficult not to notice that floutist wearing the bright red dress! haha

  • we just started playing this song, and i hate it. but as with many songs we've played so far, i'll probably grow to love it ;)

this band is about 2x the size of our small-town one. is it easier or harder to play with a bigger band?

  • @Alyss93 Well, it really depends on the band in question. But good luck with your performance! I hope you do grow to love it as much as I did :)

  • really good job, we're playing this in on concert. one thing that i noticed, the clarinets were ahead and it threw half the piece off. being a clarinet player myself, i realize how hard the part can be at times, but really great job!

  • hard to keep the tempo up at the original pace... watch the director and watch tuning... pretty good though ;) I remember playing this piece in HS as well for competition... good piece

  • OMG!!! you guys are amazing,my sgholls performing this next wednesday at a competition hope we do as good az you guys

  • This song is epic.

  • I remember this song from my freshman year! Definitely one of the hardest songs to tongue that year on clarinet...lol!

  • i hate playing this song.. especially since my percussion section only has 4 people in it... gahhh, sucks being section leader >x]

  • I loved playing this song :) We're going to NYSSMA with it and I hope it goes well!

  • dynamics should have been a little more extreme. a couple trumpets needed to play a little cleaner.

  • omg our band at school started to play this recently

and my finals are based on a random part (flute since i play that) of this song i am less then thrilled

  • cute asian at 0:42 on perc and even cuter one at 2:58 on flute. couldnt help but notice XD

  • lets just hope your not over 18 lol

  • im playing this at my next concert at school. I really hate the 16th note sections. i cant tongue fast enouph

  • Oy... I have to play this for All-County.... I am less than excited...

  • wow looks quite professional, good percussion and brass/woodwind

  • Comment removed

  • damn good for 6-10

  • I played in Coral Reef High in miami a few years back and I played that running xylo part. SO BOORRING

  • I am playing this in band! I play the french horn, and I love the soli

  • This piece is difficult on trumpet. Lots of double-tonguing, and some pretty technical areas too. Even with practice, I wasn't able to confidently take on the part at 6:36 to 6:50. Practiced hours on end and ended up nailing it pretty nicely. =)

  • hey mang do you have any tips on learning how to double tongue my high school band is doing this song, and i really wanna nail it

  • Lotsa air, just play through it.

I'm playing this for All County HS band in a few months, and I'm sitting here looking at the part.

Just play Da-Ga-Da-Ga, take a look at the channel "ResonanceMG", he's a professional trumpeter and he's got a great video on double tonguing.

  • I thoroughly enjoyed 1:10 -- 1:20 (absolutely perfect).

  • we played this in my high school band this song is so much fun to play for baritone

  • Agreed, it is. 8D

  • Well done...the beginning section was controlled, and the mallet players and snare were nicely in phase. We tried playing this tune in high skool, but our low brass section had some major scrubs that year and couldn't hack it. I did get a chance to play it in college...

From another percussionist, well done, drummerboy!!

  • i remember when i first played this a few years ago, my hands cramped up. the xylophone part was seriously a work-out. loved the video. thanks for the memories

  • Just started playing this in my High School band as a clarinet.

The notes aren't hard, but the way the rests are spaced just makes it annoying to play

And yet it sounds so beautiful.

  • brings me back to high shcool

  • Great tempo!!! I played this in HS All-County and HS Wind Ensemble......then again in college Symphonic Band. Drammatico is a lot tougher than this piece though. It's FUN!!!

  • this was really good! i played this in HS about 4 years ago and our flutes werent that great. I played euphonium and the part in this song rocked!!

  • yes it did. i played this my senior year in high school.

  • Great performance!!! Controlled and great intonation!!! My Concert Band played this my senior year in High School. My Symphonic Band did Drammatico that year.

  • I agree w/ dannyrego. Our middle school Symphonic Band also played 'Masque' in '75-'76. Your wonderful performance brought back some wonderful memories! Thank you for posting it on YouTube!

  • Certainly.

  • Sorry

  • no problem.

  • thank you for pointing this out. it is ever so constructive and helpful.

  • we played this last year in my wind ensemble. lvoe thissss song.

  • thats some fast double tongueing at 2:10
