It is improvised, it is not a kata. it is an exercise, not a set technique. So it is not "setup" or choreographed. So it does not look polished, and crisp and sharp. Gee,that is like a real situation where you have to adapt on the fly. How Bruce Lee. I had to direct my friend as I did not want to get out of camera shot, or block the view, (generally we circle each other), so I had him go back around the other way. I have been doing weapons for 37 years. The video looks amatuerish, because it is.

We actually started with bokken back in the mid-nineties. We do this exercise with katana, broadswords, sticks, staffs, spears, etc.
Small weapons slide too quickly (too close) or hook easily.
Bokken will smash fingers, knees, elbows, so pad them, and yourself !
Two people with Twin Hook Swords each, will hook and catch each other. Straight, longer, weapons work best. It is not impossible to use others. You just have to do it slowly, and learn to move with the opponents pressure.
Sticks slide very quickly and are harder to control close in, and have no hand guard. Sai, kama, hook each other so you end locked up, and then you kick !
Knife, and tonfa, slip and are too close.
If you want to go faster, harder, use safety weapons, and PAD UP!
Wooden weapons can bust a lip, or poke an eye. So FOAM weapons, and still use hand and body/head gear.

it's pretty obvious that this is improvised, and that neither of you have any weapon experience at all.

Part 3,
This is a practice exercise. Not really for matches.
We slowed down for the camera. My friend (orange), and I have been doing this for 15 or so years. So in reality we do go faster.
We wanted people to see the exercise, and the technique involved.
Have fun , BUT BEEEEE SAFE!
