La réponse à la question en français - c'est 'Oui'!
Which language in the EU has the most native speakers? Which has the most speakers on the various continents? Perhaps they should also be the 'official languages' of the union.
Margot Wallstrom has recieved 1.9 million Euros for her 10 years as "communication" commissioner and is entitled to another 1 million in benefits when she retires. Her "communication" dept. had a budget of 2.4 BILLION Euros for 2008 alone, paid for by us taxpayers ( Source : Open Europe ).
These un-elected "elites" are Europe's new royalty.
Good Luck to the Irish...the only Europeans "allowed" to vote on the Lisbon constitution.

Though polls have shown in both Europe AND Turkey ( population 72 million ) that a majority are against Turkey joining the EU....public opinion is being ignored ( as usual ) by Brussels.
The Lisbon Treaty insists that all states should expand their "military capabilities" ( page 39 ), and Turkey's membership will make the planned EU military machine LARGER than that of the U.S.A.!
What for and with whose money ?
Our money !
Vote in June's European elections for democracy and peace.
It really never crosses her mind that people much actually not *want* a European federal state. All we need is education to understand better. And when the voters say no, it's just one more round of education and then maybe a poll and so the no can be neglected. She truly doesn't have any democratic ideal.
So the EU wants to decide what the people are allowed to know. Bravo Europe. Back in the EUSSR, no? Then again, the Euro-peons obviously want to be ruled by undemocratic regimes. Have fun. But don't count on us to bail you out AGAIN.
The EU, the way it is now, WILL fail. And I will enjoy watching its demise. But then I will pop up and say "Told you so"
The fact that there was open honest survey like this by the EU, puts the idea that the EU is completely undemocratic to the side. Its also worth remembering the EU is the only body of its kind that has directly elected representatives (MEPS)
The EU 'parliament' is in no way a real parliament. The true power is being centralized in the hands of the EU politburo (commission) and the EU council. The 2 combined can make laws which NO PARLIAMENT is allowed to reject. How about that for parliamentary democracy eh?
Maggot Wallstrom and her EU propaganda ministry should fuck off. DEATH TO THE FOURTH REICH
To understand the EU why not watch youtubeDOTcom / watch?v=xnMtc_QJ4-E it will help you understand the aims of the EU & those who are the minority pro group who welcome corruption, greed, centralisation and self enrichment. It makes it entirely understandable why Politicians are in favour & out of step with the peoples where France, Holland & Ireland VOTED NO to the Constitution now renamed Lisbon Treaty & note EU Commissioners have less democratic mandate than Mugabe NO ONE EVER voted for them!
More staggeringly misleading Aesopian nonsense from The minister of Propaganda - Note 1,400 members on her Forum (out of 400 Million) is considered good democratic progress! Yet one notes the utter corruption whereby the EU Constitution is rejected by ALL who have a free vote (a DEMOCRATIC Decision) so it is repackaged and rebranded with greatewr obfuscation and called The Lisbon Treaty and in the knowledge it would be rejected by the electorate they are denied a Referendum - DICTATORSHIP!
Yes. the EU back in VE day in 1945 single handledly saved europe and had nothing to do with huge sacrificies of british, american, candian and countless other nations. Dumbarse. EU came into existance in 1958 as the EEC between 5 western countries. not including the UK
Freedom for some English meens the good old days when they could bully other countries (colonies) and back here play the French against the Germans. But Im sure the day will come (soon) when even they will realise just how Europan they are.
I like very much this video and the interview was really good. I totally see Margot Wasstrom's point because I believe that European Union needs to communicate its own policies and it's true, is not propaganda. Why? Because they don't encourage us to "accept" the EU, but to actively contribute to it.
I like Europe, and we need Europe! Europe has given a lot of money to sustain the agriculture, invested in depressed areas such as Wales, Ireland, Southern Italy, Spain etc etc etc Also has provided our continent of a friendly peaceful cooperation and environment. Can anyone of the viewers make such a long list of negative thngs the Eu has done? I dont think so... but you can still surprise me.
The EU is a suprantional Union, and its well democratic.
Calling the EU fundementally corrupt has got to be the most retarded thing you could say. All areas of government are corrupt. That does not exclude the EU, but so far, the EU has done much more then say the US or the UN has. Everyone complains about the EU, yet still, people do nothing to dismantle it. If its so bad, why does it continue to gain ground and lead by example?
1. Moved democratic power farther from the people.
2. Built walls against Africa (e.g. Ceuta and Melilla).
3. Contributed to overproduction and dumping of food (especially in Africa).
4. Weakened Trade Unions in Europe.
5. Contributed to GMO-products.
Etc. etc....
Emotions are scary stuff...but I can say that personally I feel both European, Norwegian AND a citizen of the Earth, but fortunately not a EU-citizen :)
You are not an EU citizen for the simple reason that Norway is not part of the EU. The citizens of a state become EU citizens once their country has joined the EU.
I disagree with the points you mentioned above.
1. Europe gives more power to the people as regions become more important at the expense of the member states. The regions have much more say in their policies (which directly affect their citizens) than 10 year ago and this thanks to the EU.
bullshit, the EU gives more power to politicians as it takes legislative powers away from national parliaments and gives them to unelected unaccountable Brussels elitists
3. Point also taken, but there are reforms underway which will change this situation quite dramatically.
4. This is just not true. How can you assert such a thing knowing (which I hope) all the disparities in social and economic systems in the different member states? Trade unions are still very strong in Belgium and Poland, while they have much less power in the UK, for example. So where is the tendency imposed by the EU?
The EU laws can be - and I am not saying they are - both brilliant and wonderful. But the fact that so much happens behind closed doors is a huge problem. I would rather have a democracy with half-good rules than a dictatorship with perfect laws.
I want the EU to do well, and I think it is a great idea, but I'm Portuguese or Greek before I'm European. Thats not to say I'm anti-EU I'm simply pro-culture. There is no European culture, there are customs that are commonly shared with many of the countries, but that is not European culture. Value your cultures and that of you're neighbors, that is the best thing anyone can do to help Europe.
Iam also pro-culture and want the different peoples of Europe to keep their heritage, but if you go to China or India, or even to a country that is closer in culture to us like the USA, you will soon discover that there is something like a European culture indeed.
It's great idea that you left that 'off air' comments in the end of the video, when normally studio things get mute... that makes both Commissioner and interviewer left in more relaxed + less official situation... closer to people and citizens...
Indeed, we need the same language across the Union, without it, our population will never feel true unity and belonging. But this obviously does not mean the end of our cultural languages, many countries in the world are truly bilingual. Europeans can be too, English would be the language of politics, of unity, but people can still speak French, and Italian and Swedish.
I Always refer to myself as an European! Maybe because i deal a lot with people form around the world here on YouTube! Most part of the people are from America or Australia so i refer to myself as an European and i'm proud to be European! After that i'm Portuguese!

47.9% Voted against Mugabe in Zimbabwe's elections.
The EU described it as 'travesty of democracy' & supported MDC decision not to stand in second round.
53.4% Vote against Lisbon Treaty in The Constitution/Lisbon Referendum.
The EU implied the Irish were stupid & didn't understand & said it 'regrets' and would like them to run again a second time.
At least Mugabe was elected by democratic means though his mandate has run out - The Commission was NEVER elected & MEPs have no say!
