The 241 Am found in smoke alarms is extreemly deadly if you inhail. Most of your videos are funny, but this one could really harm you.

As for the WNA message, inhailing the direct and concentrated fumes is quite a problem. 0.5 uCi (low-ball estimate) would means 1,110,000 disintegrations per minute. If you captured all of that on a Geiger counter (100% of it) you would hear 1.1 million "tick sounds" or "clicks" ever minute. =(

That is a very foolish thing to do. I believe that model is only shielded from microwaves from the bottom or the top. When I worked there, the ion chamber had a plastic side shield that only protected it from bugs crawling in. The americium itself was not in a capsule but on a foil swaged into a metal button. We were informed that if one foil was introduced to a part of our process that could evaporate it to evacuate the building. Deswaging the foil would require a special tool.

This is really foolish guys. Despite your warning about eating it, that is much different than inhaling radioactive smoke. Americium dioxide might not be digestible, but fumes can still be inhaled into your body, concentrate in bone tissue, and emit alpha and gamma particles with a half life of 432 years.

Ya know the eement used in the old smoke detectors is americanium 135. It detects smoke by two capsules put in a aluminum box and a channel for smoke to enter. The smoke between the capsules transmits radioactive signals, triggering the alarm
