@mavadd88 Yeah, they shoot 600 & 1000 yard rifle matches with iron sights. The steel silhouette shooters use pistols with irons at 200 meters all the time. Takes skill and practice and good equipment, but it's easily doable.
@cloop77 M&P sights are dovetailed, so you slide them out to one side. The Dawson Precision sights come with a punch tool and instructions. They also make a cool front night sight with a Trijicon insert for about $50.
@shred2dotnet the back iron sight has this pin which looks like it needs an allen wrench since the hole is hexagon shaped, the front doesn't and that's my dilemma, I tried sliding it but it won't budge.
@cloop77 the hex hole in the rear sight is the end of a little set-screw-- you have to remove that before moving the rears. Fronts are in tight so they don't come loose shooting. A padded vise and non-marking punch or sight pusher tool is needed. Most gun stores and gunsmiths can install sights cheap, sometimes free if you get the sights there. That's a good idea for tritium sights since they can be a little fragile to install.
@shred2dotnet oh yeah, on some guns, the rear sight holds other parts in the slide as well, so watch out for springs and parts flying out when you remove them.
HUGE thumbs up for outstanding work!!!!!! You made the best sight picture illustration that I've seen, bar none! Excellent and thanks for posting!

Excellent training aid. I directed one of my students here who was having trouble understanding the concept of shot calling. Thanks for posting.

iron sights are stupid imo. only effective at close ranges. you need a scope for hitting anything farther.

@nooblet911 If you are skilled, and you are using a rifle, iron sights can be used for shooting pretty long range.

How did you replace the iron sights? I have the M&P 9mm and wanting to replace 'em with trijicon night sights.
