Thank you so much for uploading this! I saw Cappuccilli in the same performance in San Francisco in 1986, and never forgot it - have been looking for it to appear on youtube one way or another.... Just breathtaking.

It's beautiful and it's sad because if it weren't for the accident, Piero Cappuccilli would've continued singing for a very long time and would likely be alive today.

This is simply one of the great renditions of this very difficult aria. What makes him unique is the ending. I marvel at the effortless delivery of the sequence rising to the climax which would drain most singers of breath and leave them vocally strained. But he sails from note to note sounding and looking in total control as though breathing was for amateurs. His legato is just impeccable. And given his age, this singer must be doing something right.

There are different ways of singing and portraying a a part dear dergobuzov. Gobbi had his way and Cappuccilli did it a bit differently. They both both were very great singers.

Who is Cesare Bardelli? I never heard of him. Where did he sing? I don`t think he was in Austria, neither in Vienna nor in Salisburgo.

Cappuccilli is good, but if he's the best Prologo, how you'd rate Gobbi in this role?

This is taken from a performance in september 1991 and Cappuccilli's singing is great and really more touching than in 1971 when he sang the same part in Vienna. I agree, his A-flat is gorgeous, but not only that.

Cappuccilli not at his best, a bit tired... the A flat is dirty and not easy as when he was in good shape... anyway, is Cappuccilli, and chapeau

Although this is an older Cappuccilli, and the vocal cords are taking a little longer to close than when he was younger, nevertheless it is a striking, vintage performance from him. The technique, coloration and phrasing is sublime, and it is his approach to and then release onto the high A-flat that makes my heart race every time I hear it. To me, that A-flat is absolutely glorious.

Vi e ouvi Capucilli no Rio de Janeiro em 1965. Neste video, 25 anos depois, ainda conserva todos os dons de sua voz privilegiada, respeitados os limites da idade.

É um dos grandes mestres e o melhor Yago de que tomei conhecimento.
