I've had a lot of requests for a tutorial, I did this with Apple Motion 3 (for those who never read the description lol) in 2008. Sorry but I've been using After Effects since and I wouldn't be able to do a tutorial on Motion again, it's a pain for me to get back into it. For this effect I had to tweak a lot manually but the tracking feature in Motion is great. Keep testing.

Look for AppleShakeGuru on youtube, he's a great teacher and has tuts on Tracking in Motion.

just change the light and you wont get any shadows in the frame, >problem solved.

there wouldn't be shadows... if I'm right, he got lucky by making it look like it was a light source (which wouldn't cast shadows).

Very cool! The only thing you could probably make a little better but might be hard, is to add a rectangular shadow to get real amazing effect. There was a point in the vid where your fingers were forming a shadow on your shirt, but there was no shape in between. But very cool video! Could you make or send a tutorial vid? Thanks

If you just stuck a tiny peace of white tape on your tips you wouldn't have to retrack. But looks great.

Thanks. You're right, I saw a tutorial using this technique but the problem here would be the opacity of the "screen": seeing the pieces of paper kills the illusion I think.

Couldn't you then just use the tracking of the white pieces of paper to recolour them to match your fingers?

You could also make a dot on your fingers with a pencil.

He didn't need to, with motion it does it pretty well, depending on the angles. Also, you can just correct the mask every few frames if the motion tracker messes up interpreting the shadows or pixel color changes.
