first, most of the photos in the very begining are photos that are most likely set up for photo ops... second, rodeo rough stock love what they do... if they diddnt they wouldnt do it... most stock contractors breed their stock and see if the horse will want to buck... if the horse doesnt want to they wont make it... third i agree with alot of the other coments that alot of the photos look like they are older horses that might have problems with wieght...
@bullriderludlow Great response but you fail to mention the fact that the maker of the video is most likely an over privileged person who sees everything they are not into as abuse. Rodeo stock are bred for rodeos and are treated very well. To the point that champion bucking horses and bulls are bred out to the best in order to keep their lines alive. I would gather to hate a video like this because it is set up to raise hatred to a sport by misleading the viewer.
I ride horses and I won 3 american mustangs. I understand some horses run free, thts fine, but not all fo them need to. I don't think thats why horses are on Earth. My horse is 22 and half Thoroughbred, it's almost impossible to keep weight on him and he has a very healthy appetite, some of the horses looked old. This video is very misleading. To upload photos of neglected horses, mistreated horses, etc, with photos of rough stock photos is moronic. Rough stock animals can cost tens of thousands of dollars...even small rodeo production companys have enormous over head with their animals. They would never jeapordize their livelyhood by mistreating their animal. Animal niglect is an atrocity...but blame the government. My vet clinic gets calls daily on equine neglect and the police do nothing to help.

@Cody00911 I agree completely. I've ridden in rodeos before and did barrel racing briefly. I've seen them first hand. The occaisional rodeo has its reputation for not having vets on call or might have resulted in a fatal injury of a number of animals, but a majority of them are great.

@ cowscuddle, i understand what you say about the slaughter part because i work in a zoo and horse meat is used to feed other animals (as long as they are humanely euthanized first) but as for the rodeo, some aspects of rodeo is abuse. not all. some horses are mistreated and abused, and ive seen many a video where (cheyenne rodeo imparticular) the horses are hit, beaten, and put in positions where they get hurt and killed for no reason. its like dog or cock fighting. wrong
The horses in 1:26 are not nesecarily abused, I know a horse who is 34 years old and cannot eat anymore because of his old age and teeth but he gets vet care, a bath once a week and 11 pounds of hay each day but still looks like that

I've been a horseman most of my 61 years, and rodeo'd professionally in my younger days. I detest animal abuse as much as anyone, but rodeo horses aren't abused. They are very well taken care of. The primary reason they buck is because they don't like the flank strap around their flanks, but it doesn't hurt or injure them. I have ridden bucking horses out of a chute at a rodeo, then later saddled the same horse, and went for a pleasure ride.
You need to get your facts straight when posting a video like this. Rodeo horses, for the most part, are very well taken care of! The skinny horses in your videos are surely neglected, and it is both sad and sick, but rodeo horses have nothing, NOTHING, to do with the purpose of your video. I suppose you support PETA too? Great video, but I take issue with the labelling of sporting animals as "abused" or "neglected". They are far from it. Those animals are worth thousands and are so well taken care of its not even funny. Yes, cross country sporting events can be dangerous, but in reality nobody is making that horse compete on a xcountry course, all the rider does is aim and hang on (I agree, not best for the animal, but it is not abuse ).
@Lindsay90Rowland Broncs live for getting that rider off. If you have ever been near one in a chute, it's scary to see just how anxious that horse is to put on a show. Same goes for bull riding. Also, 99% of sporting horses aren't taken out of the wild....they are part of domestic multi million dollar genetic improvement programs that date back tens of years. Majority of these horses would not survive in the wild because of shittily directed selective breeding.

Animals involded in the rodeo are treated very well. They eat better then us most of the time, and have better places to sleep while at the rodeo. My horse gets to stay in a trailer with ac/heat, while im in the bed of my truck. A girls bestfriend is her horse, so of course they get treated better!

Ok, I have 4 horses and I would feed them before I ate. They are such an amazing animal I have a 2 yr old she is not papered and I paid $50.00 for her and she is my best friend, she is like my kid, she is my life line. People who do this needs to be punished with the same treatment. My 4 horses are so spoiled and very loved. It was hard watching this and to know it's the truth just hurts more.

I think its because horses are so expensive and not enough people who own them know enough about horse care. Plus the govt is taking away more and more land for wild horses to roam. Its sad that horses have to be treated so cruel. If anything, the Burearu of Land Management needs to be stopped from taking wild horses out of the wild.

Rodeo horses are not usually abused, they go through training just like an endurance horse. If someone abused a rodeo horse it would be reported, so don't be stupid. However, horse slaughter is only looked down upon because we see them as our pets. I hate horse slaughter and animal cruelty of any kind. People who abuse horses usually get them thinking they will be easy to take care of and they get frustrated and neglectful when they find out that it's the complete opposite of easy.

I agree...i dont like horse racing. I think its really cruel that they thing the horse is"usless" afterwards....seriouseley. After a thing like that heals, the horse can be put to use by riding. Some horses ive ridden have been in terrible accidnts,but people worked with them and taught them how to be completely fearless on the track. I feel bad for these horses, nothing deservfes to be treated so badly :/

Yes horses die everyday, I agree with you on that. I do however disagree with more deaths in cross country than rodeos. Look at the difference in treatment of the horses in both sports. Cross country endurance horses recieve much better treatment than those of a rodeo horse.
a rodeo horse is treated the exactly the same, they are trained for the sport and cared for by there owners! they are groomed and brushed after every rodeo and all this other stuff! i have plenty of friends that are in rodeos so i know because i help them with their horses a lot!
Carefull with that one. I used to attend and partake in many rodeo's, now I compete in cross country. I can tell you now that I have been there. Horses in rodeos are not treated as well an endurance horse. An endurance horse is not made to wear a bucking strap, is not shocked, is not kicked or beaten as cruelly as a rodeo horse. Our rules and referees are tougher.

I am all for ending abuse to horses but I seriously don't think that rodeo and races are the cause. I mean, XC I do feel is a little extreme because their are rarely break away poles so if a horse hits a jump wrong.... Well, you know. As for rodeo, a lot of the horses used for broncos and such are bought from auctions and such. Many horses used for meat are also bought from auctions... I'd rather the horse work at the rodeo. first of all I love horses they are beautiful animals. I have owned 5 in my short 25 yrs on this earth and have nothing but respect for them. When I trained my colt I did it gently he never bucked when I rode him. I never broke his spirit to gain control. I don't believe you need to push a horse to its breaking point it is all about trust and respect. you have to step back and know what they are feeling and watch there body language to judge your next move. anger & frustration are not an option.

You're entirely wrong. You should also never ride yearlings. It takes more than land. Even mustangs need veterinary care and hoof care. Wild mustangs die very young.

first, most of the photos in the very begining are photos that are most likely set up for photo ops... second, rodeo rough stock love what they do... if they diddnt they wouldnt do it... most stock contractors breed their stock and see if the horse will want to buck... if the horse doesnt want to they wont make it... third i agree with alot of the other coments that alot of the photos look like they are older horses that might have problems with wieght...

@bullriderludlow Great response but you fail to mention the fact that the maker of the video is most likely an over privileged person who sees everything they are not into as abuse. Rodeo stock are bred for rodeos and are treated very well. To the point that champion bucking horses and bulls are bred out to the best in order to keep their lines alive. I would gather to hate a video like this because it is set up to raise hatred to a sport by misleading the viewer.

I ride horses and I won 3 american mustangs. I understand some horses run free, thts fine, but not all fo them need to. I don't think thats why horses are on Earth. Some fo u need to open ru eyes and see that NOT EVERYONE WHO OWNS A HORSE NEGLECTS THEM! Horse people, look at the horse and the background, indeed they could have been just rescued but some of them looked as though they were just older and a little bit under weight. The Belgian in the first abuse vid looked like a scrawny weanling.

Ok, first off, yes some of the hroses in the video were very obviously neglected, but in others, you look at the background and they look in very well conditioned housing, you don't know the background of these horses. My horse is 22 and half Thoroughbred, it's almost impossible to keep weight on him and he has a very healthy appetite, some of the horses looked old. Other photos were riding accidents, injuries where the horse is otherwise in good condition, and sports and pasture accidents.--

This video is very misleading. To upload photos of neglected horses, mistreated horses, etc, with photos of rough stock photos is moronic. Rough stock animals can cost tens of thousands of dollars...even small rodeo production companys have enormous over head with their animals. They would never jeapordize their livelyhood by mistreating their animal. Animal niglect is an atrocity...but blame the government. My vet clinic gets calls daily on equine neglect and the police do nothing to help.

@Cody00911 I agree completely. I've ridden in rodeos before and did barrel racing briefly. I've seen them first hand. The occaisional rodeo has its reputation for not having vets on call or might have resulted in a fatal injury of a number of animals, but a majority of them are great.

@ cowscuddle, i understand what you say about the slaughter part because i work in a zoo and horse meat is used to feed other animals (as long as they are humanely euthanized first) but as for the rodeo, some aspects of rodeo is abuse. not all. some horses are mistreated and abused, and ive seen many a video where (cheyenne rodeo imparticular) the horses are hit, beaten, and put in positions where they get hurt and killed for no reason. its like dog or cock fighting. wrong

The horses in 1:26 are not nesecarily abused, I know a horse who is 34 years old and cannot eat anymore because of his old age and teeth but he gets vet care, a bath once a week and 11 pounds of hay each day but still looks like that

I live and work with horses everyday and i love them to death but there is nothing wrong with rodeo, the horses there thats what they are bred for. As for horse slaughter, yes its an uncomfortable subject but it has to be done or else there would be alot more neglected and starved horses

I've been a horseman most of my 61 years, and rodeo'd professionally in my younger days. I detest animal abuse as much as anyone, but rodeo horses aren't abused. They are very well taken care of. The primary reason they buck is because they don't like the flank strap around their flanks, but it doesn't hurt or injure them. I have ridden bucking horses out of a chute at a rodeo, then later saddled the same horse, and went for a pleasure ride.

You need to get your facts straight when posting a video like this. Rodeo horses, for the most part, are very well taken care of! The skinny horses in your videos are surely neglected, and it is both sad and sick, but rodeo horses have nothing, NOTHING, to do with the purpose of your video. I suppose you support PETA too? those horses are so thin because a person does not have the money to take care of them and no one will buy it who has they money to., it is the people who try to protect them that are actually causing this...look at the bucking stock in this video they are all feed and cared for extremely well, those animals love to put on a show they absolutely love it, they live for it every day, anyone who has not been around this should have no say in this.

Great video, but I take issue with the labelling of sporting animals as "abused" or "neglected". They are far from it. Those animals are worth thousands and are so well taken care of its not even funny. Yes, cross country sporting events can be dangerous, but in reality nobody is making that horse compete on a xcountry course, all the rider does is aim and hang on (I agree, not best for the animal, but it is not abuse ).

@Lindsay90Rowland Broncs live for getting that rider off. If you have ever been near one in a chute, it's scary to see just how anxious that horse is to put on a show. Same goes for bull riding. Also, 99% of sporting horses aren't taken out of the wild....they are part of domestic multi million dollar genetic improvement programs that date back tens of years. Majority of these horses would not survive in the wild because of shittily directed selective breeding.

Animals involded in the rodeo are treated very well. They eat better then us most of the time, and have better places to sleep while at the rodeo. My horse gets to stay in a trailer with ac/heat, while im in the bed of my truck. A girls bestfriend is her horse, so of course they get treated better!

Ok, I have 4 horses and I would feed them before I ate. They are such an amazing animal I have a 2 yr old she is not papered and I paid $50.00 for her and she is my best friend, she is like my kid, she is my life line. People who do this needs to be punished with the same treatment. My 4 horses are so spoiled and very loved. It was hard watching this and to know it's the truth just hurts more.

I think its because horses are so expensive and not enough people who own them know enough about horse care. Plus the govt is taking away more and more land for wild horses to roam. Its sad that horses have to be treated so cruel. If anything, the Burearu of Land Management needs to be stopped from taking wild horses out of the wild.

Rodeo horses are not usually abused, they go through training just like an endurance horse. If someone abused a rodeo horse it would be reported, so don't be stupid. However, horse slaughter is only looked down upon because we see them as our pets. I hate horse slaughter and animal cruelty of any kind. People who abuse horses usually get them thinking they will be easy to take care of and they get frustrated and neglectful when they find out that it's the complete opposite of easy.

I agree...i dont like horse racing. I think its really cruel that they thing the horse is"usless" afterwards....seriouseley. After a thing like that heals, the horse can be put to use by riding. Some horses ive ridden have been in terrible accidnts,but people worked with them and taught them how to be completely fearless on the track. I feel bad for these horses, nothing deservfes to be treated so badly :/

u hav absolutely no utter sense! cowboys r regular riders just like any english rider! the same amount of horses get hurt with rodeos as show jumpin and cross country! cross country and show jumping can be mre severe than western riding!

horses die everyday from cross country zccidents but rarely will a horse die from rodeos. then these idiotic english riders go and crit western ppl and it makes no sense! sure westerns dangerous, but u gotta get ovr ur fear and go out there, saddle up, and do it anyway! its something learn in kindergarten called facing ur fears! so dont u go crit western no more!

But theyre ACCIDENTS. How can you force a saddle onto a horse that could dam well be only 2years old & jump onto his back when he clearly doesnt want you too. He will be ruined before hes 6yrs.

Tripping a calf or horse is discusting, it can break their legs.

Yes horses die everyday, I agree with you on that. I do however disagree with more deaths in cross country than rodeos. Look at the difference in treatment of the horses in both sports. Cross country endurance horses recieve much better treatment than those of a rodeo horse.

a rodeo horse is treated the exactly the same, they are trained for the sport and cared for by there owners! they are groomed and brushed after every rodeo and all this other stuff! i have plenty of friends that are in rodeos so i know because i help them with their horses a lot!

Carefull with that one. I used to attend and partake in many rodeo's, now I compete in cross country. I can tell you now that I have been there. Horses in rodeos are not treated as well an endurance horse. An endurance horse is not made to wear a bucking strap, is not shocked, is not kicked or beaten as cruelly as a rodeo horse. Our rules and referees are tougher.

watching that video broke my heart and i will be the first to admit i cried watching this video. I have no respect for people who would treat a loyal animal like that. Man should respect horses they have been at our sides since the beginning of times and before the dog was ever called "mans best friend" horses have been there for us now its our turn to be there for them and be their voice that needs to be heard.

I am all for ending abuse to horses but I seriously don't think that rodeo and races are the cause. I mean, XC I do feel is a little extreme because their are rarely break away poles so if a horse hits a jump wrong.... Well, you know. As for rodeo, a lot of the horses used for broncos and such are bought from auctions and such. Many horses used for meat are also bought from auctions... I'd rather the horse work at the rodeo. In all horse sports there is going to be some neglect. Good vid though

not trying to put down the video and dont get me wrong but there is nothing wrong with rodeo. just to point out there alot of those horses that are shown are a relust of the bann on horse slaughter the horses are often abandoned in the country and left to starve because the owner didnt want to take care of them no more. i am for against animal cruelty but alot of people are rash in there decisions and dont really think about he aftereffects. note the starving horses from slaughter being banned..

there is nothing wrong with rodeo or racing.
and because slaughter has been stopped in some places there have been negative consequences such as more neglect and abuse where slaughter has been stopped. other than that this is a very good video. good job =]

omg sorry guys but a wake up call those horses u ride today how else do u think u rode them.. wat they do in bronc bareback is the exact same as they do wen they break in a horse normally.. i have been riding for 16 years and i broke my colt in wen he was a year.. i had him from 6 months til now his 6. i h8 this cruelty if i buy my uncles farm im making 180 acres of property into a farm for abused horses to get back onto there feet. R.I.P to those horses who have died

first of all I love horses they are beautiful animals. I have owned 5 in my short 25 yrs on this earth and have nothing but respect for them. When I trained my colt I did it gently he never bucked when I rode him. I never broke his spirit to gain control. I don't believe you need to push a horse to its breaking point it is all about trust and respect. you have to step back and know what they are feeling and watch there body language to judge your next move. anger & frustration are not an option.

I agree. I think horses should be broken using pure trust and encouragement, not having someone sit on their back until they collapse from being too weak/tired to fight it anymore.

wait one second i did not say i broke his trust or anything he never bucked once either i have respect for them aswell. i never push him to breaking point or anything. trust me i no him better than i have ever knowin a person. he has no bad bones in him at all i would die for him. he bucked wen i first did the saddle n that but never bucked wen i got on him n has never bucked now 6 years down the track.

You're entirely wrong. You should also never ride yearlings. It takes more than land. Even mustangs need veterinary care and hoof care. Wild mustangs die very young.

wow ok I wasn't attacking you I was talking about the video. I know things aren't always perfect in the horse training world; you don't always get that easy horse to train like I had or like you had. it is not always pretty. So yes I agree with you and I wish you the best of luck with the pending sanctuary idea. Sorry for the misunderstanding I get that a lot.

Slaughter houses have been banned in US. And not everyone that owns horses is abusive to their horses. I am blessed with the friendship and love of several of these wonderful creatures. Please don't group those of us who love our equine friends with the souless fiends that would do this.

There must be Horse slaughter because the market is flooded. People who can't afford to feed them anymore just let them die from starvation because they can't afford to take them to the auction because they won't bring enough money to pay for the GAS to haul them there. If more horses were slaughtered then the market would rise and the suffering would decrease immensely.slaughter horses are taken care of and killed painlessly Who eats beef? Get real. I know horses are beautiful but cows are too.

All of you that care so much to boast on youtube should find a program and adopt neglected horses. All of my horses are well taken care of but its a chore to make sure of that. I love every day of it, but what i'm saying is, you should take the time out of your busy life to buy land, build fence and maintain an establishment that you can care for horses at. That takes a little more effort than posting a reply on from keyboard. Not intended for those of you who own horses. For thought not replies
