  • Interestingly, if the Mercure had been developed further, powered by the CFM56 engine (which had become available by the early 1980's), the plane would have been a surprisingly best seller, because many airlines around the world wanted a smaller jet airliner that was reasonably fuel efficient. It probably would have drastically slowed the development of what became the A320 Family of airliners.

  • If only Mercure hadn't stumped on the low fuel capacity and the 737 wasn't so successful!

  • Thank you so much for that video! I'm a french jumpseater, and I've flown on this bird several times during my childhood. She was my preferite!

  • Beautiful plane.. Fell victim of it's horrible range.

  • @scaremenga it wasnt that bad though was it? thought it was just over 1000 miles?

  • Eventhough it didn't sell well.. made some amazing feats in aviation....

On 29 April 1995, the last two Mercures in service flew their last commercial flight. All Mercures are now retired with an impressive history: 360,000 flight hours, 44 million passengers carried in 440,000 flights, no accidents, and a 98% in-service reliability.

  • Thanks for this information. Sincerrely,

  • IT sure tells you the reliability of fewer modern systems.. it seems the newer jets are always having some problems because of the so many systems in them that could go wrong ;)

  • This is a vintage video! Very nice! Sad the Mecure's never sold well.

  • Thank you Sir. Yours sincerelly

  • nice

  • Thanks a lot.
