While there are some blacks that carry a lot of racial pride in Obama, the African American reaction to Obama was lukewarm at best, Obama only gained an extra 5% of the normal black vote and the percentage of black votes only increased by 1% for his election.

The school district I live demands community service to graduate no matter what the child's grades are. It's DEMANDED!
I questioned it and I was looked like I was nuts for having a problem with it. They claim the Supreme Court found it constitutional so I should shut up and accept it.
I asked when my children were convicted of a crime that community service is required. I was told it just is and no else has a problem with it. Sure, is that why I was told it was taken to the Supreme Court?

Do you guys just blindly listen to people with no back up research? First off, this quote is taken out of context of the entire speech where he is talking about civilian volunteer programs such as the peace corp. and having them better prepared and funded for what ever duty they have to do. And second of all, the comment about community service. Last I checked many public schools require a certain about of community service in order to graduate and it has been that way for years. Take your own advice. Before Rahm Israel Emanuel became Obama's Chief of Staff, he stated in 2006 that all citizens between the ages of 18 & 25 would have "required" National service with 3 months of "basic training". This idea of compulsory service goes against the basic freedom of the US citizen and Rahm is now Obama's most trusted advisor. This doesn't raise any alarms? The responsibilty of every citizen is to question the government whether it's the GOP or the Dems. They can't be trusted.

Americorps volunteers are civil servants like members of the military. They serve to improve their communities.
What is meant by making it "as powerful, as strong, as well funded as the military" is to elevate community service as a way to serve your country that is equal to joining the military.
No one I know in Americorps wants to carry a gun, they want to help people, tutoring children, improving household safety, and helping mostly church food pantries feed more hungry people.
