can you set it to "auto" detect the needed stabilization?
I assume that using a wide angle adaptor should compensate for the cropping.

But the REAL question is how did the image stabilization take 1 second off the length of the original movie at 1:52?

Yup...the original videos were assembled in iMovie, but the side-by-side was assembled in Final Cut (I just exported the two versions as QuickTime).
