  • you wore vans!? what has this world come to..

  • Yes.. no snakeskin boots.. no review.. You have a global to loose .. 8-)

  • 2:34

    muauahahahahahahhahahhaahhah

  • The spring chicken is more subtile at higher settings, but the holy grail seems do do a better job if you just want a bit of 'verb to create the illusion of deph...

  • There's a reason it's called the holy Grail! And this demo just isn't the same without the snake boots!

  • do you use reverb when you play shows with tenacious d?

  • I like the EH better but not by a whole lot. A half lot!

  • when you pumped the nob all the way, the spring chicken just owned the holy grail in the face. Very warm. I like it.

  • so, jack black; why dont you like reverb so much?

  • What!!!!! No boots!!!!!

  • The standard in spring reverb to me is old Ampegs, a bit brighter than the standard. Now to get a great surf tone I got to say this Maleeko is is brighter & better because has the inital bloom but then faster decay leaving less mud while still giving your notes that surf color. While neither is versatile the EH is more so for giving a nice Hall .

  • I tried all the reverb pedals you find at the big chain stores. The Holy Grail beat all of them hands down.

  • I don't think it matters witch one sounds better nobody cares about you mr guitarist just play whatever one you can afford or steal and spend the rest on booze or drugs cause these idiots want to hear a shitlicker yack yack to a beat who fucking cares find the 10 dollar reverb and some nautral ice

  • The blues is all about feeling and soul. If you don't get it then you ain't got it.

  • reverb sucks? the blues sucks.

  • @mophead94 you sucks

  • I prefer spring chicken, slightly deeper and thicker sounding more natural, it'd sound amazing with some tremolo too! thanks for the video

  • Pink floyd :US AND THEM

  • Unacceptable... This isn't a proper gmd review without the snakeskin boots.

  • @rydock I totally agree! It's just no the same =(

  • hilarious with the tape, wow!

  • Say what you want little school children-that Chicken SMOKED that not so holy grail.

  • Malekko are just a couple of amateur dicks. The Holy Grail is the standard by which other reverbs are measured.

  • @melindagreenjeans but in a chain (1 spot, power all, etc) the holy grail is by far the noisiest thing in the world. malekko is not.

  • just one question ... why do you not like reverb?

  • @MicaRulz13 'Cause it sucks

  • wish they still sold the chicken. i don't care much for the new one, the chicklet.

  • This guy's just getting paid to demo this pedal... that's why he doesn't wanna tell which pedal he prefers or gives negative comments to his more recent demos...

  • The chicken sounds so much like the real thang...of course, it can't get all spacey and weird like the grail. Final analysis...it goes to Malekko. @yabadabadoo68, now I will be haunted all of my days...the knob...THE KNOB...WHY?!!?

  • Has it occurred to anyone else that it's kind of silly to sell a spring chicken and not put a chicken head knob on it?

  • @yabadabadoo68 YES!

  • Where are your boots???? I cant Watch this!

  • @619mikeg.....ur gay

  • but does the spring chicken come in other colors...

  • Wow your tone is so much better with a little reverb. None of the other pedal demos are accurate without a touch of reverb because it doesnt really sound like most amos would. I know you hate reverb but the fact is, most ppl like it. So pedal demos with a little reverb are autimatically better. Thats why Pro guitarshop makes all the class A boutique pedals they show off sound like shit

  • Comment removed

  • @riles6789 A good amp doesn't need reverb. You just obviously don't know tone. Reverb will fill some empty spaces, thats all it does, thats all it should do. Proguitarshop has good tone, something you obviously can't point out. You've been playing too many SS amps or you just want to justify your stupid guitar purchases like most people. And I have no idea what you mean by amps not sounding like most amps unless they have 'verb. One amp shouldn't sound like another, right?

  • jack black

  • HOLY GRAIL NANO - has a wider range of sounds, great for crazy sound sculptors

SPRING CHICKEN - effect sounds more wet and more transparent as well, great for those looking for a regular reverb sound

***like always, it depends on what other gear you're using, how all of your gear complements/works against each other, what sound you're looking for, how it feels, and what you're willing to pay.***

  • spring chick looks cooler but that dont mean shit!

  • your voice reminded me of Jack Black in school of rock lmao!

  • @kasso187

    HAHAHAHA. right.

  • thats funny he picked a song with a lot of reverb for his intro

  • Where are the boots?

  • Gyahh!? Reverb AND no boots?!? I don't know if I can handle this:P lol

  • Reverb is on every record on earth

  • whoa! what's with the shoes??

  • whats the difference between all those 3 kinds of reverb? PLEASE TELL ME?

  • OK so when are going to do a reverb shoot out with the 3 reverb pedals you have GMD?

  • Hey now!! reverb doesn't suck!!!

  • hey bro do a thing on monster cables

  • You should compare pedals that are in the same price range.

  • GMD's wearing Vans?!?

  • Hey Jack, what happen to your snake skin cowboy boots? That was your trademark man!!

  • Well done GMD. I'm going to disagree with the folks here. Holy grail is IMO going to sound better in a band situation. Much more pronounced.

Spring Chicken sounds beautiful on it's own in your room.

  • spring chicken/chicklet or mr springgy?? anyone?.....

  • Kevlar--finish this statement--we will see if your a fan... Stroke the _____ Cradle the _____ and swallow the _____

  • i didnt know jack black did guitar reviews

  • Maybe if you're deaf?

This is deffinately making me want to upgrade my HG.

  • I have a Holy Grail. The Chicken sounds better, in my opinion. Sounds much more realistic.

  • wow... the spring chicken sounds awesome!!! I was not impressed hugely with the holy grail. i got the holy stain just for the reverb the other settings are kinda lame but the reverb on it IMO kicks the holy grails ass. i would like to pick up the spring chicken now though its so clear!

  • spring chicken for sure.

  • yeah jack black again!!!

  • btw thanx for the demo. didnt know which one to get. your demo was just the right thing to help make my desicion.

the spring chicken just has a much warmer sound.

  • spring chick >>> EHX holy trail..

  • where are his boots!?

  • i really think you enjoy playing with those reverb toys ;)

  • Chorus and phasers suck.

  • @gregtron11

    Dude, you're an idiot.

  • Dude, you can suck a dick.

  • @gregtron11

If you think choruses and phasers suck then you have no creativity or imagination and will never be a successful musician.

  • You're right.

  • Karate.

  • they're cool if you're trying to play a certain type of music, but generally modulation is only useful in playing around. tremolo is about the farthest i go. and it doesn't mean i'm not a successful musician either. tastefulness, when using any effect is greatly needed.

  • A little harshly put, but I agree. I think choruses are extremely underrated. They can be really rockin if you use them right. They can do leslie like imitations. And I make my feedback modulate with it to give it a slightly unstable sound.

Haven't gotten into phasers too much yet.

  • I think chorus is great to doctor up the clean tone, really gives it that liquid shimmer, and a good one will keep it crisp, too. Phasers are cool too, although I haven't found much use for them in day to day situations.

  • @a1gold174 this is 2011 the better you get at guitar the less chance you have at being a successful musician now if you can talk shit to background beat wow and you got a crappy additude and need a fat lip your on your way

  • Um... I never said anything to receive that comment. like a year ago I said that I find it hard to find phasers useful in day to day situations, which is true. So, who the fuck are you?

  • @a1gold174 I went through not liking reverb: Funny, I too disliked most modulation effects for many years especially hating phasers but now suddenly I find phasing nice on some stuff if it is subtle enough, shifted signal mixed well off of 50 % and not using any positive feedback/resonance . Try a UniVibe or a clone (preferably one with a mix control) Technically it is a crude phaser, semi crippled in a good way . Place before your main overdrive , unless you mainly O-drive the amp .

  • Getting back to the question at hand... WOW! The Spring Chicken SLAYS the HG in sound comparison. SO much clearer and brighter. Thanks

  • lol reverb doesnt suck, phasers suck

  • naaa. none pedal effect does. well i actually dont like the digital effects but...

  • i thought this guys was jack black for a sec lol

  • "REVERB SUCKS" say that to Gilmour,Lifeson or Page.

  • @joakoPRIMUS Say that to any guitar player, keyboard player, or producer huh?

  • @joakoPRIMUS Oh because they use it means everyone should like it.

  • @casual35 YES!!!

  • @joakoPRIMUS That was his opinion.

  • sorry mate i dont got a bass, try it at your local store, i love it

  • Gearmanndude. You are my favorite demo dude on youtube. I was wondering if you could somehow do a demo of bass guitar with the holy grail, I am really curious as to how it sounds.

  • Nice Vans Gearman! Wheres your croc boots mate??????????

  • no comparison to me: the spring chicken wins this one hands down! the holy grail ain't bad, but it sounds muffled and mushy in direct comparison. thanks for the shootout JB!

  • That's what happens when you compare to digital sound to real sound. After a few new demos, I'm starting to think the holy grail reverb pedal being this great 'verb box is a giant myth. I have a digitech multi-FX cheapo that sounds about the same. The difference here is night and day.

  • How can you say reverb sucks. Everything you have ever listened to has reverb on it.

  • @awesomeportal So true....

  • no boots!!!

  • hahahahahaha reverb sucks lol

  • Comment removed

  • i was just quoting the gearmanndude :(

  • i thought it was funny that he said that you didnt have to be such a dick dude.

  • meh, they're good i guess... I wouldn't spend money on something you can get naturally from the room, anyways. Plus, honestly, reverb doesn't add to your tone much. I wouldn't go so far as to say it SUCKS but to me it's not worth spending money I could use to buy, like, a delay, or a drive, or a vibe.

  • ummmmm, i like em both. i gotta holy grail and love it maybe i need a maleko too

  • Hey man I've been wondering what the holy grail sounds like on bass, any way you could do a demo vid?

  • I happen to like the Holy Grail a lot. But you are right it's a close one. But I do prefer the Holy Grail just over the Chicken

  • PINK FLOYD

  • lol the shoes he's wearing look like the Vans i just bought... Well from what u see in the vid. If those are vans then they are prob the same as mine....

  • I love me some spring chicken.

Also, No one should thumbs down dan122189 for stating his opinion. Its not like he's being a douche about it.

  • I've got a big box Grail and love it. The hall and flerb are surprisingly useful. But I admit, as far as spring goes, the Chicken wins. I also am not a huge fan of the fact that on the Grail when you turn the Reverb past twelve that the dry signal cuts. It's good for ambience, but isn't very useful when you want a crapload of reverb and a dry signal.

  • what song was that at the start?

  • Pink Floyd - Us and Them from the 'Dark Side Of The Moon' album

  • I just use the reverb on the amp.

  • yeah but you can switch the reverb on and off with the pedal.

  • that is very true. I guess i'm not a big fan of reverb. to me, its not worth wasting money on.

  • where are the snake boots!!!??!!??

  • look, if y adont like reverb right, ican see a solution to the problem that will suite all partys......dont use it! happy now??

  • spring chickens better .

  • "Reverb sucks" LOL!

  • LOL I lol'd so hard at the "Reverb sucks" on your foot. I like the spring chicken a lot more then the Holy Grail, which was a surprise for me. I thought I was going to like the holy grail so much more. At higher levels the Spring Chicken just kicked so much more ass then the Grail. I just use a pinch of it on my amp to sound more natural normally though, so I wouldn't bother buying a reverb pedal in the first place. Don't know who would honestly...

  • Comment removed

  • your videos are very helpfull and i enjoy them but are you jack black? i didnt think he could play that good?

  • man say what you want about reverb (i kind of dig it, sort of... i'm more of a studio techie tho) but spring reverb totally sucks unless it's a real spring tank! gimme somethin' I can KICK! SPPRRRROOOOIIIIINNNGGG!

  • LOL.. Jack, you're right.. Reverb sux 'cause it is dishonest.. hey, was that the pick of doom you had on the floor there?

  • Hahahahaaaaaa nice "reverb sucks" on the shoe, GMD.

  • reverb sucks haha!!!!!

  • anyone notice how he just happen to leave a few "lime green"p.o.d. type colored pics on the floor,it's amazing the lil' things this guy does to keep the j.b. myth going, clever, those are not the pics of destiny you say, therefore it cannot be mr. black...ah,but consider this...the p.o.d. is in his hand....heh,heh,....i think i can almost smell the b.o.d. in the background of this video....anyway,price point variable reverb types makes the ehx the one for the dough

  • Is that a lick from "Recline to Sensible" by Jolene? If so, good taste in an under-rated band!

  • have you ever used a reverb pedal... on weed?

  • have you ever looked at the back of a 20? have you looked at the back of a 20 ON WEEEED?!

  • hey someone knows what I'm referring to!

  • those who thumbed you down need to try a reverb on weed

  • exactly. my pal just bought a £3000 telescope that you hook up to a laptop, it automaticaly picks out constallations for you to view, smoke some weed, look throught that and play rye cooder style blues with a holy grail on hall set to 3 oclock. weird but..... well just weird

  • Oh come now. It's obvious enough you'd leave the reverb behind, no matter the brand.

  • The HG wins IMHO.

  • Spring Chicken FTW!

  • where are your boots Gearmandude!?

  • " Reverb Sucks " Rofl.

  • i would only buy the nano for the flerb

  • I got the large size Grail (I guess its the standard one) the Flerb is deliciously subtle. Def pick it up.

  • I don't like reverb that much. anyways, I'll just use the reverb on my amp. Great demo GMD, for some reason the quality of this video was much better than average.

If I had to choose one it would be the EHX holy grail

  • The Spring Chicken sounds better.

  • Love the custom shoes.. And I'm guessing your choice is neither!

  • yes im diggin you using a Strat

    GMD

  • where are the boots wt fuck my man!!!

  • pink floyd yay

  • a GMD vid isn't a GMD vid without the boots.

  • Us and Them is a great song for a reverb demo.

  • Gotta love the Vans!

  • I think the dude is slowly falling in love with his archy-enemy...

  • which... the reverb pedals... or non-alligator boots.

  • Comment removed

  • Not to mention the footwear change.

  • Comment removed

  • what happened to the alligator shoes?

  • maybe he is being hunted down for his identity and has to wear a disguise

  • The chicken holds more volume and body.

  • I agree. It blows the Nano out of that water.

  • hahahahaha I love the "reverb sucks reverb sucks just sayin' reverb sucks"

  • Reverb? REVERB? I'm shocked.

  • I love the spring chicken, reverbs really my main effect and the spring chicken is imo one of the best.

  • absolutly desert island reverb, the one i would pick, absolutly for sure, would be

    NIETHER!!!!!

hahaha i personly like the spring chicken.

  • Gearman, why do hate reverb so much?

It's like my favorite effect, makes your sound huge.

  • Because its not made for D-Metal Biatch

  • Every listen to Dream Theater? Plenty of reverb in their music. Plus gearmann don't even play metal you fucking dipshit.

  • i know!!!!!!! whats the deal with these reverb haters??? i remeber the 80s EVERYONE loved it........actualy the 80s sucked, but hey a touch of reverb for atmosphere?? why not??

  • Absolutely man. I love it. A nice bit of reverb and a touch of delay and BAM! Perfect clean tone. I like it a lot on a lead tone.

  • I think the dry signal even with both pedals going full is more present in the spring chicken. I owned both and the spring chicken is the WINNER. The reason is for keeping the tone more natural sounding. Reverb sucks? uhmm it depends. Is not the tool, is how you use it. I think a little touch of reverb and I said "little" is nice. Specially with pedals. A tube reverb unit or a tube driven reverb circuit in an amp is a diferent story.

  • man they both sound great

  • hahaha, keep em coming!

  • i prefer holy grail.. XD
