What a great film by Spike Lee and someone has to tell these stories even if slightly fictional otherwise it's Hollywood bullshit 24/7. We should remember that there were many brave people Black, Red, Brown and White and in WW2. The film was not meant to create Black and white discussions on YouTube just to enlighten people. Black soldiers fought in the Civil War also and both Black and White people died together for Civil Rights. For a positive future the past cannot be forgotten......
Actually, I really enjoyed this movie. I found it refreshing, deep, and has many layers to it. It shows the many different sides of the African-Americans, the Germans, the and the Italians.
@tantorss No one says the war was all about blacks. It portrays a specific black infantry and their trials and revelations during the war. Anyway, people who usually get obsessed with race are never rational in their thoughts. When I first watched this film, I didn't take it like it was glorifying blacks. Try reading on James McBride's novel of the same name or his biography then maybe you would understand what the story really portrays.

Hmmm... certainly few dealing with the subject have been mainstream or box office hits, but there have been a number of films about black soldiers in WWII, the Tuskeegee Airmen comes most vividly to my mind.
think about haow they treated not only black but the native americans and the spanish. nlacks were not the only ones who got treated bad. but the military at least the army does, tells the story of black soldiers during these times. my brother got a dvd about it
The us military didn't intergrate it's units until 1948, but there were all black units such as the Tuskegee airmen, the 761st tank battalion that served under Gen. Patton the Montford Point Marines that served at Iwo Jima, and the 92nd infantry(The Buffalo Soldier) depicted in Miracle At St. Anna, and many others that fought in Europe that are lost to history, and while they didn't fight side by side with their white counter parts, they did fight in the same theater of operation.

I also don;t understand how Spike Lee is answering Clint Eastwood's pair of movies about the battle of Iwo Jima, what question was he asking in that? I thought "Letters from Iwo Jima" was a refreshingly compelling look at the Japanese part of that battle.

On the other hand St Anna was a REAL BATTLE. American troops where really there fighting. Spike Lee added a spin to the story.
When someone makes a movie about a real battle. people tend to want the movie to depict what really happened. Make it as accurate as possible. Thats why Speilberg didnt have token black guys in Saving Private Ryan. US forces were segregated then.

@shellback1970 actually you are right and wrong, the 92nd Infantry was all black with the exception of the commanding officers and they did see combat in Tuscany, they worked with the Italian Partisan that was a against Mussolini and Italy's involvement in the war, The 92nd fought of the German army allowing the Italian Partisan to assinated Mussolini in MIlan who was under German protection. THey were the first blacks allowed to fight. It is all written and can be found easily in books.
@shellback1970 My great Uncle was in the 92nd Infantry and died in combat in Tuscany, we are black. My boyfriend is from Rome, Italy and it is commonly taught in Italian schools, it is sad that the Europeans know more about our history than most Americans. The Army did dissolve segregation in the 50's allowing blacks and whites to serve in the same units and dwell together but there had been blacks fighting since the American Revolution.
@shellback1970 oh, hold on my cousin just corrected me, he is a Lieutenant, he said there were actually Blacks and Whites that fought together when the 92nd Infantry needed more trained infantry men, they incorporated white air-gunners into the 92nd and it was jokingly referred to as the Rainbow Infantry for a while. SO I guess you are just wrong and I was wrong. Blacks and Whites did fight together in the war. The white air-gunners were close by and easier to get..

This movie could have and should have been better. Most of it was bullshit. Some parts had potential, but overall it was whack. Saving Pvt Ryan was much better

1. in S.Anna there were not americans and any allias infact germans could do the massacre without any problem.
2. Fascists lead the nazists in S.Anna to commit the massacre not partisans. Partisans during the massacre were in the mountains. So fascists could lead nazists there to do the massacre.

Actually, I really enjoyed this movie. I found it refreshing, deep, and has many layers to it. It shows the many different sides of the African-Americans, the Germans, the and the Italians.

@tantorss No one says the war was all about blacks. It portrays a specific black infantry and their trials and revelations during the war. Anyway, people who usually get obsessed with race are never rational in their thoughts. When I first watched this film, I didn't take it like it was glorifying blacks. Try reading on James McBride's novel of the same name or his biography then maybe you would understand what the story really portrays.

Hmmm... certainly few dealing with the subject have been mainstream or box office hits, but there have been a number of films about black soldiers in WWII, the Tuskeegee Airmen comes most vividly to my mind.

The us military didn't intergrate it's units until 1948, but there were all black units such as the Tuskegee airmen, the 761st tank battalion that served under Gen. Patton the Montford Point Marines that served at Iwo Jima, and the 92nd infantry(The Buffalo Soldier) depicted in Miracle At St. Anna, and many others that fought in Europe that are lost to history, and while they didn't fight side by side with their white counter parts, they did fight in the same theater of operation.

On the other hand St Anna was a REAL BATTLE. American troops where really there fighting. Spike Lee added a spin to the story.
When someone makes a movie about a real battle. people tend to want the movie to depict what really happened. Make it as accurate as possible. Thats why Speilberg didnt have token black guys in Saving Private Ryan. US forces were segregated then.

@shellback1970 actually you are right and wrong, the 92nd Infantry was all black with the exception of the commanding officers and they did see combat in Tuscany, they worked with the Italian Partisan that was a against Mussolini and Italy's involvement in the war, The 92nd fought of the German army allowing the Italian Partisan to assinated Mussolini in MIlan who was under German protection. THey were the first blacks allowed to fight. It is all written and can be found easily in books.

@shellback1970 My great Uncle was in the 92nd Infantry and died in combat in Tuscany, we are black. My boyfriend is from Rome, Italy and it is commonly taught in Italian schools, it is sad that the Europeans know more about our history than most Americans. The Army did dissolve segregation in the 50's allowing blacks and whites to serve in the same units and dwell together but there had been blacks fighting since the American Revolution.

@shellback1970 oh, hold on my cousin just corrected me, he is a Lieutenant, he said there were actually Blacks and Whites that fought together when the 92nd Infantry needed more trained infantry men, they incorporated white air-gunners into the 92nd and it was jokingly referred to as the Rainbow Infantry for a while. SO I guess you are just wrong and I was wrong. Blacks and Whites did fight together in the war. The white air-gunners were close by and easier to get..

Munitions were being loaded onto a ship and they expolded.killing 320 over 200 of them black enlisted sailors. instead of fixing the problem the Navy painted the scenrio as THIER fault. After the clean up reloading resumed. with the same unsafe process. some of the workers quit knowing it was unsafe. they were charged with mutiny and dishonorably discharged. I think had they been white... no charges

Every military unit is a voluntary. The distinction that I am making is that the SS had a very low approval rate before 1941. Its ranks in its early years were mainly made up of politically indoctrinated Aryans who fundamentally supported Nazism.
Throughout their childhoods these people were brainwashed and the Hitler Youth of 1935 were raised to be soldiers.
What made the early Waffen SS so elite. Was that they picked you not you picking them. The restrictions loosened as the war went along.

As I stated you are off by 116,000 total deaths (416,000 American soldiers were killed in WWII) You said 300,000 and 718. You got 12% from the CACF report from 1993 and a speech by Gen. @StonewallJackson26 Go to google. Type in " How many African Americans died in WW11." You will find that your first source on the page will state that 718 died as infantry soldier. The total African American deaths including the Navy is between 2000- 3000. That is not disproportionate. That is less than 1 and 1000. And blacks made up 10% of the US pop. in the 40's.

This plan called for the nationalization of all businesses which have been formed into corporations. Private ownership did continue under the Nazi however what could be done with those resources did not. Please don't give me your opinion how about some facts.
