    Gracias!

  • loving this very stiring well played matey

  • thank you back- please check out the girl I video taped in union square. she's 21 and does Youkali in an english translation. I think you'll appreciate it as I did.

  • This song is mezmerizing and - and this arrangement here proves it does not even need a voice. It is a reflection of our soul. I video taped a young girl singing on the subway in NYC I never knew the words- and didn't need to - but when I heard them it just ripped me apart. I love the composer. I will post the girl in another response

  • @moesez1

    thanks

  • Excellent rendition of this wonderful tango...!! BRAVO...!!

  • Wow, I love this piece. Just yesterday I thought, hmmmm I wonder if there's a guitar arrangment out there that I can learn, or better, maybe I can arrange it. Then today, I found this.....Damn.

    Outstanding!!!!

  • @RogueonRouge

    thanks.

  • Superb arrangement and really expressive playing of a piece I love so well. You are an outstanding guitarist, and I'm pretty damn hard on guitarists.

  • @omerthekat

    i thank you!

  • @omerthekat

    thanks, I appreciate that!

  • Having sung this song many times, I am most impressed with the balance you struck between being faithful to the original and interpretation. As a former guitarist, I cannot even begin to imagine the work that went into this arrangement. Have you considered publishing it? It would be a worthy contribution to the repertoire, and is so well suited to the instrument. Have you done any other recordings of it?

  • @jazzopera

well, that's what i was trying to do anyhow. not sure it's completely successful with some of those awkward parts. I never rerecorded this anywhere. In fact, i've completely forgotten how to play it by now!

  • @troubleclef such a shame! :O

  • I heard your Villa Lobos "Melodia Sentimental" on another page and it was excellent...what a beautiful arrangement! You are really quite talented.

  • Beautiful! I'm dancing to this lovely and pensive sunset of a tango

  • @TheDogfairy

thanks a lot. glad you liked it.

  • what a beautiful interpretation!

  • what a beautiful interpretation!

  • I come again. I like to here your arrangement and playing very much.

  • @MartinRaetzJr

  • really nice and played with much emotions. congratulations!

  • I can see that you are deeply moved by your music: So am I: dynamics, timing, clear notes, and a sweet-toned guitar! 07 Apr 2010

  • @dayonda

    thanks!

  • clean as whistle 5 star!

  • Thank you for kind comment for my video.

I love your wayof playing so much! Well sofisticated arrange and clear tone. Great!

I've never known that Kurt Weill wrote such kind of piece. Thank you for good inspiration.

  • yumyum

  • bravissimo

  • Beatiful man

  • Maravillosa interpretacion!!!

  • Congrats!, beatutiful piece from Weill, amazingly played.

  • I'm so glad I happened on this one. Kurt would enjoy your arrangement - so do I! I'm eager to learn it. This isn't the first video I've seen of your fine performances - 'Cry Me A River' is real nice too. And thanks for all the Beatles tunes - check out my 'Blackbird'. More Weill please!

  • congratulations. the musical arrangement is very good. Go ahead:)

  • delightful

  • Wußte gar nicht, daß Weill so etwas auch drauf hatte. Klasse gespielt, gefällt mir sehr gut.

  • Danke

  • Splendide, it's a real pleasure to hear this melodie.

    All the best

  • OK you say:

My arrangement. I have no tab or score written down. Sorry, please don't ask.

But you should write it down. Its exelent transcription. Students around the world will love it!!!!

    Thanx for sharing.

  • thanks. yeah, i know. i'm just too lazy and writing music down takes me WAY more time than it should. I'd just rather work on something new.

  • Maybe you could post an mp3, so people could learn it from that? I have this guitar trainer thing that slows down and loops passages. Can't do it with a youtube clip, though.

  • there are ways to extract an mp3 out of youtube audio. not sure how to do it myself. but i know it can be done. google for "mp3 save youtube audio". there's probably freeware. then import into audacity and "change tempo". woo hoo!

  • Thank you

  • It's really nice to hear an actual sense of musicality on guitar for once. Excellent sense of rhythem too!

  • Kurt Weill à la guitarre!!

    très, très bon! merci!

    --Van

  • very beautiful playing.. what else can i say :)

  • yeaaaahhhhh i'm sorry but this sounds realy good.. :(

  • wonderful!

  • your good

  • First-rate rendititon of a small Weill masterwork.

  • thank you!

  • WOW

  • Thank you, it's breathtaking.

  • Thank you for a very romantic piece of music. I enjoyed it and sent to friends very dear to my heart

  • I searched for Youkali on YouTube and I found it. This is Youkali for me. Thank you. Subscribed - and in the land of Youkali :)

  • Beautiful!

  • Hearing this as a beautiful guitar solo is very interesting. I've ordered the big Kurt Weill books and this is in vol. 2. Probably just piano and voice, and I'll try to figure out guitar from there. One of the fascinations of his music for me is that it is often very smooth and beautiful but with rather harsh and pessimistic lyrics by Brecht and others. The message of this song is an example in its way. Anyway, thanks for the guitar rendition.

  • thanks. yes, the words here are quite heart-wrenching. Some other Weill favorites are "Berlin im Licht-Song", "Der Abschiedsbreif", "Es regnet" and "Je Ne T'Aime Pas" and ofcourse all of the better known things (3 penny, Alabama song, Surabaya Johnny). thank you for watching.

  • I love Der Abschiedsbrief too. That is one that makes me smile. Deine Erna Schmidt. :-)

  • Thats very very very beautiful song I ever hear.

  • Beautiful!

  • This was absolutely AMAZING!!! Please continue to do what you do. That was gorgeous!

  • wow that was really lovely !!

    keep playing :)

  • BRAVO & MERCI !!!

  • ='( LOVE IT!!

  • muchas gracias por su regalo.

  • pureeeee music just puree music nice play

do you know where i can get the chords

  • vaya tela que bien is fantastic is very good 100% good esta bien

  • Dude, you're amazing! I sing this with a pianist, but it stands alone with you!

    Sandy

  • very good, I wish I could play tango!

  • SUPERBLY done by friend !!! Awesome indeed =) Hope you can teach me... hehe

  • I watched a lot of your video's, but I think this is my favorite! Very nice. Seems like a lot of practise to get this piece correctly!

  • oh, yes. it is a bear to get this one right. (and the video proves that it ain't quite there yet...) thanks!

  • Still, a very nice job! I have a recorded version with a string quartet. You played most of the parts with 1/4 the hands. One of my favorite songs. Thanks for sharing.

  • Very clear nicely dont ! check out my vids.

  • anyone know where i can get the tabs for this??

  • hi! Please, say me if you find this part....very nice

  • Hmmm...I was pretty sure I don't like tango. Now I'm uncertain.. Great! :)

  • what are the first 2 notes, iam trying to figure this out on the accordian

  • wow...just the first two? a and g#. anyhow, it shouldn't be too hard to find a copy of this. The original is in dminor too

  • awesome stuff , you should do some flamenco lessons on here, i want to learn but dont know where to start.

  • As usual, very nice. Hope you're getting more work than you can handle... raise your rates :)

  • thank you sir!

  • Very beautiful! I really enjoy the way you change from Beatles to bossa to tango and so on... And thanks for the hint on Teresa Stratas video, also excellent.

  • Youkali... es tu música.

    Gracias.

Would you play Milonga del Angel

    by A. Piazzolla someday?

  • thanks! I'll check it out. I know some of Piazzolla's guitar music is beyond my technical level. It's something to shoot for, though.

  • Thanks!

  • Always a pleasure my man.

Somehow you manage to make the good vibes come across. I wish more people including myself could only do the same. It would be a different world if only we all could.

  • Like all of your videos that was great. Is the Guitar the only instrument you play? How old were you when you were first introduced to it? Who are your influences? Is this how you make a living? What are your other hobbies?

  • thanks! you can read some of that stuff in my profile. influences can be guessed from who and what i play.

  • Amazing! Beautiful melody, and I am amazed at how complex some of the fingerings are to keep the bass going. Above all else it's smooth and musical. Well done!

  • yeah, that bass gets pretty hairy at points! In fact, i had parts of it down a little smoother than in this version, but this was the best 'overall' take, so there it sits. Thanks!

  • Ah... kurt weill. Well done!

  • that was beautiful- i felt like dancing!

  • Wonderful!!! I am in awe of the time it must take you to get this impressive repertoire down to memory. I seldom see you look at sheet music ( with the understandable exception of the classical guitar pieces). How do you do it?

  • thanks! I took the piano & vocal score out of the library and brushed up my ability to read the bass clef (which i'm none too good at). Then in conjunction with a recording i learned it by ear..with reference to the score to add notes or correct harmonies. It's not a perfect arrangement, but it's something to work with.

  • Time 01:15 is my best part! I love this song!

  • Perfect arrangement and beautiful song. Cheers.

  • thanks that brought a touch of class to my day. soon as the wife gets up from all the spinning around she'll wonder where i got the inspiration.

  • Just passing to listen to it again...

    :o)

  • thanks, as always! for some reason i couldn't reply to your msg above. let's see if this one flies!

  • excellent... again!

  • Beautiful. Upon listening to Teresa Stratas' vocal, I returned to your rendition and appreciated it anew.

  • Bravo!!!

  • Youtube's messaging system is seriously messed. Anyhow do a search for "stratas youkali" to see a really nice clip of this song sung in french with english subtitles. really great.

  • I'm gonna practice harder! Yeah! On a separate note, really like the quality of the notes and feel of the song and the arrangement! Cheers!

  • thanks!

  • Another very fine performance.

Your playing, phrasing and tone is getting even better and better with every video.

  • thank you very much

  • This is a wonderful week starting! :)

  • beautiful :)

How long does the process take you, to arrange the pieces as you do ?? Its a fantastic skill that you have.

    Cheers,

    Alex

  • Thanks, man! I can't seem to post a comment if it includes a url to another youtube video. yet another brand new bug! Anyhow do a search for "stratas youkali" to see a really nice clip of this song sung in french with english subtitles. really great.

  • i'd say it took roughly 20-24 hours to work it out and play it this well. needs more work, like everything i do. It helps that the original is also in Dminor.

  • wow.. that's not that long at all.. I think you could make a lot of money if you would wanted to .. to translate all the pieces you have transcribed to paper, and put a few books online.. I think there would be lots of interest.. I for one I would buy one straight away :-))

    Cheers,

    Alex
