Very unappreciated BOC tune - got some airplay on FM AOR stations around LA in the early 80s - interplay between the lead guitar & keyboard is teriffic
Metaphoria3 whoever you are I want to tell you that in my opinion you have created a very great video for this wonderful old song . Thank you very much .
Nicely done. But I belie3ve the song was about meeting a female vampire and not about anything concerning drugs. Aside from that-nice vid and thumbs up.
@1Blastarr And that's what you were supposed to do... put it in your own context. I saw deserted city streets.. but I never found the woods spooky as I did the streets. People are spooky, raccoons are just looking for breakfast. My only point is.. the song was well written, in that it allowed you to feel it yer way and me in mine. =)
Also, the part where she says "If only you could of been there my dear, we could have shared this together" refers to her long life and how much she could have shown him had they met a long time ago. During the solo it's like she is showing him her past life. She is inviting him to share this with her and at the end he says "Yes I'm gonna go, cuz now I know". It's a vampire love song really and wonderfully done.
Not saying yer wrong.. But most Vampyr would not think the 'Day is ok and the sun can be fun.' My own unvalidated impression is that the lady is a ghost. (Album is called Spectres...) I, too thought of a Vampire Love Story the first few years of my familiarity with this song. I now consider this a followup to Don't Fear the Reaper. *Which I -think- is what the poster had in mind. The guy suicided to be with the ghost. Just my valueless 2 cents... As far as the mirror..
@FirstLandingOnMedusa I am curious about BOC's apparent fascination with romanticsizing double couple suicide, but if this song is a sequel or prequel to Don't Fear The Reaper that would make sense. Thanks for pointing that out :)
@jarileigh Thanks for your response. I don't have anything to base my thoughts on, except.. well, my own thoughts, lol. But both songs were written by Roeser ... so whatever inspired it was probably all in his mind.. not the band's. I can think of three other songs from BOC dealing with suicide off the top of my head.... 'Veins' from Revolution by Night, 'Deadline' from Cultösaurus Erectus, and 'Unknown Tongue' also from Cultösaurus Erectus.
@jarileigh (part 2 lol) There are probably more.. and definitely more if you count songs about rushing into deadly situations. But all psychology aside... the topic sold records... and much as we feel it and love the music, that's why the bands play. Or at least why they record.
Ok video, but it's not really what the song is about. It's about a guy that meets a vampire chick while walking late at night. You have to read between the lines a little. The part where it says "No mortal was ment to know such wonder, one look in the mirror told me so" refers to the fact that he can't see HER reflection in a mirror. It's also why she "Loves the night" and "lives to see those rays slip away". Hence the eerie music. I got this song when it first came out, one of my favorites.
I thought you did a terrific job on this video. I've been a Cult fan for over 30 years and you did this song justice. I'm sure the band would approve of this...it's actually a great compliment for one of their fans to do a job of this magnitude.
I remember getting this cassette when it was released... to this day this song haunts the corridors of my life. No joke here...very impressive music!!
I most favorite song from Blue Oyster Cult. I Do Love the night. This song fits me 100%. I am a night creature. What ever this song is about is part not a big deal to me. It's like so many other B.O.C. songs that make you think and make you enjoy it even more every time you listen to it. The mystery in the whole song is what make me love it so much. Freakin awesome.
I've been a BOC fan since 1975. Don't listen to what others say. This was just great ! I bet BOC really did like it. Terrific choice for a song. Most American sheep would have picked Don't Fear The Reaper. Not you. Way to go.
It's a very nice video, like the ones made in the 90s with a slight touch of grunge ... I could even have thought this was an official one based on the lettering at the beginning! Greetings from Spain.
i wouldv liked the video if it was just you walking at night through town or cemetary..not impressed with the typical drug emo girl and all that.. great song choice though
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
I think this is incredibly tacky. You didn't write the song, you're not any of the band members, don't do a video of yourself pretending to play a well-known song.
The album this song is on, "Spectres," reminds me of 7th grade. I was home schooled for only that year, and I would get my work done early and jam to Spectres every single day. I later realised how obtuse rock critics can be when I read disapproving reviews of Spectres in various rock rags. Spectres is full of imagination, hooks, extremely tasteful arrangements, and fantastic songs from five--count them--five great writers (plus the co-writers like Sandy and Richard, etc.). Thanks BOC.
i think its about being a vampire "no mortal was meant to know such wonder, one look in the mirror told me so" vampires like night and have no reflection. great video too!
WOW! really really good! great short story from your perspective, although i was hoping the songs real meaning wasn't so dark. very good editing! thumbs up!
I wus thising to this in class and my ipod freaked up and turned all the way up and the teacher wus like wus that i love the night by boc and im like yes she said that wus here fav band when she wus younger
Not how I pictured the song in my head. This is an outstanding interpretation. I loved the flying Peter Pan sticker next to the phone, the cocaine to stay awake and the "white id black" t-shirt.....
Loved this song when it came out in the 70's and am still in love with it.... it would make a great song for a soundtrack on one of the new vampire movies or series....
1 of the most beautiful songs from BOC. I remembered when my mom 1st got the 8-track to Spectres and I was impressed with the whole thing. And I was happy that they sang about my hero - Godzilla. But when I heard this song I thought, "How beautiful this song really is". I've had many ladies I spent time with who had listened to this song and they were quite impressed. This song makes for those romantic moments. Thanks for uploading the vid.
The song is one of BOC's better ones, but this video is terrific! For an 'unofficial' video it really captures the mood and message of the song, on a low budget no less!! Well done!
@5Cats Yeah, for an amateur. This shit is real good. Metamophia3, props to you. I love this song, always have. And I've always envisioned 'the story" it tells. This video, I think, is as close as anyone could get.
I thought parts of this were pretty cool, some of it reminds me of early concept videos. If BOC had made a video at the time it might have been like this (except with Eric Bloom singing to a vampire and Buck standing in the abandoned house rocking out!).
I LOVE this video!! The song is so incredibly haunting, and your vision fits like a glove. Great job metaphoria3! I've been a BOC fan since '76, and have no problem with your interpretation...
Interesting spin. When the guy sees his reflection in the mirror, I know that something's gone terribly wrong. I do love the chick's t-shirt, though. "Rehab: It's the new black". LOL
Yeah I respect what the filmmakers did here but I am 100% sure that it deviates from what BOC meant when they recorded this track. This is about depression, loss, mystery, beauty, and crossing over to the undead voluntarily, with lots of mystical tones...not od'ing on drugs. Sorry, BOC is just too mystical and otherworldly to do a song about a drug overdose. They may have silly lyrics but this isn't their topic.
OOOOH he MET them... well then that makes it OK to misrepresent the song completely doesn't it... I've known some other people who've met them and they are similarly enlightened....
2)respect the fact they have stated the song is about vampires..people who dont know BOC might watch it and think this is an official video and BOC's message is about drugs though they ve said it's about vampires..
I know it's about vampires they told me when I met them. I'm sure they know I respect them a great deal and just wanted to put my spin on it. To be honest I'm not completely shying away from the symbolic nature of drugs creating vampire-like effects on the user.
though i like the idea of trying to make a video on that BOC song i should comment i dont like the subject at all..it destroys the original feeling..the song is about vampires..it's not the first song BOC mention vampires etc..they have made statement about that in the past..if someone sees another meaning that's his own problem and i respect it..but he has to respect them too..and i mean
1) the title should declare this is not an official BOC video for the ones who dont know
I sure love that tune but one thing is certain. This is NOT an official Blue Oyster Cult video as the title would imply but rather someone's interpretation of the song.
With the tags at the beginning and at the end "BOC, I Love the night, Spectres, Colombia records" Implies that it is an official video to the casual fan. I can relate that you are a fan but I'd bet the band would rather see it say that it is a non-official video.
I always thought it was about a guy breaking up with his girl and then meeting a female vampire. One look in the mirror, no mortal meant to know such wonder, I love the night etc; But the drug angle I can see.
No doubt. It's a vampire song, but this coul be an angle, but as you noted-one look in the mirror-good video anyway agree with both Morgan5436 & Jkbox1
One of my personal favorite BOC songs; no question, this guy took liberty with his video, but I gotta admit, it's well done. I wish he had made it more true to the song's theme but WTF. It's good.
I'm not so happy about this vid. This song has meant so much to me. It has inspired me to write good lyrics, I had a dream about a white bird, there was a girl I loved and I told her about this dream in relation to this song. When I was going through my own poetry stage while in college, this song helped me. To see this video is ok I guess. I'm glad you created your own vision to it. It's just not my vision to this song, not sure if it's BOC's but I won't be watching this anymore.
I just heard this song for the first time about 3 weeks ago....I kept listening and the more I listened I realized it was about a vampire. BOC made some beautifully ethereal music.
I like this video. Great job! I have it as a fav and posted the tag on one of my pers. sites. The more I watch, the better it gets. me and BOC go way back!!!
Glad I read the comments before commenting. Vampire song and all that. ha ha
Great job, though!!! I was saying to myself, there is no way this is authentic, simply because they didn't do videos back in them days. But great job. Love the song, of course. Interesting interpretation.

This version leaves it open.. anyone that's heard the full version knows exactly what its about. I think they done this way intentionally.

I love the night was definitely a Vampire song, The whole album was about things that go bump. After all, Godzilla and Nosferatu came from this album

that video hurt alot. I carried around the lyrics to that song for years in my back pocket. It will never get old. Much thanks!!!

I'm glad I saw this. I never interpreted this song from a drug angle; it's very interesting.

i thought it was about sex...

It might be...It can be about whatever you want :)

Its not about cocaine. This song is way to mellow to be about cocaine. I'm feelin' opiates and hallucinogens. (:
fiendishing 1 year ago
I don't think opiates were around when the song was written. I'm not sure.

I always thought it was about a guy breaking up with his girl and then meeting a female vampire. One look in the mirror, no mortal meant to know such wonder, I love the night etc; But the drug angle I can see.
Morgan5436 1 year ago

It's just not my vision to this song, not sure if it's BOC's but I won't be watching this anymore.

its not BOC's fault its the producers n such we should be mad at

Great video!
Yeah, it's a vampire song, but the drug metaphore works.
If I was managing a band and didn't have hundreds of thousands for a professionally-made video, I'd try to make a deal with you.

I just heard this song for the first time about 3 weeks ago....I kept listening and the more I listened I realized it was about a vampire. BOC made some beautifully ethereal music.

Needs more vampires.
When did you make this? I could almost have mistaken this for the real thing. It's got that vintage look.
Excellent video.

Glad I read the comments before commenting. Vampire song and all that. ha ha
Great job, though!!! I was saying to myself, there is no way this is authentic, simply because they didn't do videos back in them days. But great job. Love the song, of course. Interesting interpretation.
