this is my favorite part of any of the suites! I've played them all (not anywhere this kind of perfection of coarse) but there is just something about it.
Its the duport strad and may he R.I.P but hun i imagine the strad foundation owns it just like yo yo mas they are lent to them to play until they die due to a couple facts high prices and scarcity
you talk about him as though he were just some cello player in a local symphony. He was the best in the world. His cello was the most amazing instrument in the world.
i really doubt you can afford a cello like that one, it worths more than 3 million usd it was even played by Napoleon Bonaparte, and maybe the best cello in the world
its not the cello that makes the music...at heart anyway. you are very blind not to see that. price doesn't always matter. a company that sells cellos will price a $5,000 cello at $8,000 or even $9,000. and on top of that, they are not very unique. I have a Violin that I got from a local man that makes the instruments in his basement that is over 400 years old and I got it for $6k and it sounds, looks, and is way better quality than most for that price. and you should put people down that that.
@Cayo255 Besides, it is not the tool but how you use it. I doubt that the gentleman would gain too much musically speaking if he played the emperor's instrument instead of one within the budget reach of ordinary mortals.
@perla7812 That cello was bought by a Japanese museum (I think) for about 20 million dollars. If you can afford to pay even more than that, then you can get a cello like this anywhere.

It should be old celli (cello in plural form), worthing unimaginably high price... (I suppose)

I doubt it. I'm pretty sure it was his own cello. He's had it for such a long time. Probably before the Strad foundation.

He got it from the former owner, who told in his testament that this cello could not be owned by anyone else than Slava Rostropovich

It is the DuPort Strad, valued at $20 million USD, and is considered to be the best existing cello in the world.

Yes! Napoleon tried it, because he wanted to see how he could hold a cello and asked
"How the hell can you hold this?!"
and the current owner wined "Siiir" to the Emperor because he was afraid Napoleon let the instrument fall.
Finally, you can see the traces of Napoleon's spurs on the side of this instrument!
