The 302nd only used 3 versions of the spit (mk v, mkix and mkxvi), and this one is if i am correct the first one they used, which is the Mk V. The mk v used the Rolls royce Merlin 45 engine, the supercharged V12.
@eclipse245 I'm almost certain that would have to be the Merlin as the Rolls (in later WWII models) had a supercharger and there would be a huge cowl induction just below the engine at the front.
how many fuel burn off oryginal merlin rolls engine in this plane..? in liters..?? please tell me.. is it about 80 l per houer of work on 50% of thrust power...??? or what..? please true info..
sooooo economicless...!!! No talk...!! - that this engine on full thrust burns about 500 l of gasoline..!!! Shut up..!! Lol.. Maybe diesel engine would be more economic...??! Why the dont use today turbocharged-diesel engines to this planes..???
@VictorSeedorsky That would take all the originality and nostalgia out of these beautiful warbirds. Not to mention change the unforgetable sound these babies make. It would also cause the resale price to suffer
much better than that american crap the closest ive got to a spitfire is sitting in the seat of one

@fighting17chicago
Rolls Royce made the Merlin. They were not two different engines. Early Spitfires used a 12 cylinder, liquid cooled Rolls Royce Meriln II.

@forestg83 you realize this video is too dark to see the blue stripe, right?

@kangawroon well, i can see the blue stripe. I should have written: "it's nice to see polish marks on Spitfire" :)
Take a look at the front of plane, just behind the propeller.

@eclipse245
Yup, 2 crossed scythes and Kosciuszko's hat.
302 operated from Duxford for quite some time, and the Spit in the video is located there. Great sight, had a pleasure of sitting in it too. :D

@SgtBodzio do you know if that one there had the merlin or rolls royce?
eclipse245 1 month ago
@SgtBodzio its not 303, its not 302... its 317, Wilenski
302 had WX on aircrafts, 303 had RF and 317 had JH "Juhasy"
