You could cut a strip longer and wider than the headband, wrap and glue the edges under, then cover the raw edges inside with grosgrain ribbon to hide. Be careful when wrapping to stretch the fabric so that you won't end up with puckers on the top. You might even consider adding some thin batting for a padded headband that will be a little more forgiving.
I checked out the website, Beverly's.com and could not find any headbands. Lots of great fabric, but no headbands. Are you sure this is the right website?
@latinamomma408 We used plastic headbands from Darice. Sorry that they are not available in our online store, but they are available at Beverly's Fabric and Crafts in Caifornia and come in a couple of sizes.
Loved your tutorial! Where did you buy your white headbands that you used? I loved how flexible the white one was that you used to bend and show the inside of it.
You always use hot glue, but i dont have a hot glue gun, can i just use normal craft glue? Or should i heat my glue? The only difference is strength right? So it might fall apart with room temperature glue?
@TheYouKnowWhats Yes, normal craft glue will work, but takes longer to dry. Fabri-Tac or Alene's Fast Grab are good choices, as they will cut down on drying time.
@bnhunter Unfortunately this technique will not work with the stretch type of headband. As the headband is stretched to put it on you will have gaps in between the ribbon, and once it relaxes the ribbon will more than likely bunch up.
@CourtneyNeubarth You could try, but I think the ribbon would gap and pucker on the fabric headband with the "give". For sports teams, I've found Korker Ponytails are a great way to show team spirit - stays securely on the head and also safe against impact. I have some at my store and do custom orders at no extra charge - group discount may apply. They work with shorter hair too (my daughter wore them at 1 yr.) BeautifulMeBoutique "dot com"
@southerncrafts Yes, you can pad the headband with batting before wrapping. I would suggest gluing the batting onto the headband to prevent slippage, and you will need to use a bit more fabric for wrapping the band.
Thank You. I really appreciate the quality of your tutorial. I like that you use a bright color on a black background. I like that you have pre-made stages to your headbands. I think your sound is clear and the instructions are easy to follow.
My only suggestion to others making these headbands would be to use a lighter to heat-seal the ends of the ribbon before gluing any of it to the headband. DO NOT try to heat seal any chiffon.

What if I don't want to wrap the material. What if I want just a smooth surface on the outside? How would I do that with fabric? Thanks ;)

What a horrible video, it won't show this lady actually making the headband!

Will this technique work with elastic bands before sewing the ends of the band together?
