I understand all the social upheaval that the Vietnam War caused and the lack of public support for veterans and the War. But I've never understood the rationale behind the medal throwing. I smelled the bullshit so I looked it up: no one in any of the American Armed Services has ever received more than eight Purple Hearts - and this guy was not one of the men to receive eight let alone nine. While I fully support the right of these men to return their medals, I feel nothing but contempt for someone who would exaggerate or outright lie to better make his point.

None of those guys in the video probably gave up their VA benefits, for example. The VA benefits are stolen goods. None of the wars since at least WW2 have been self defense. They are frauds.

Coming to the aid of another country is fighting for nothing? While those Marines/soldiers were in Vietnam they were fighting alongside and for the man on their side. Throwing their medals back at Washington is like stepping on the graves of their fallen brothers. It seems that veterans of that war come out with different opinions on whether or not we should have been there. I've been around the type that believe it was just, so of course, that is how I see it.
A lot of people who opposed and protested the war did so because they did not think Vietnam was important enough to send more and more young boys to get killed. The price the Vietnamese paid was also considered too high and the war dragged on and on without end in sight.
Most American soldiers fought with honor but it is a fact that crimes were committed.
Communism needed to stopped no question about that and the war played a part in the end of the Cold War in 1989.

The world is ruled by corrupt elites whos medals of honor are insults to the intelligence and true patiotism that America was meant to stand for. All wars are caused for polital gain and power and greed. No peoples in any countries want to be at war. Yet again and again we are thrust into war without our conscent or even understanding of agenda at hand.
Yes, it is true that the US did not want to see communism spread. BUT it is also true that the US fundamentally misunderstood what communism in Vietnam meant. Secretary of Defense Robert McNamara who oversaw the build up at the time said EXACTLY that, thet they misunderstood Ho Chi Mihn. They thought he ws a dupe of Russia and China and according to the idiotic domino theory, they would all form a bloc like eastern Europe.
Vietnam was one country before 1954. From 1945-1954 the US paid 80% of the French war effort to retake their colonies which they lost during WWII. So right there the US is fitting the bill of a repressive colonial regime.
When France was finally defeated at Dien Bien Phu in 1954 and told Washington the jig is up, the Eisenhower administration brokered an accord at geneva which divided the country whereupon an election was to be scheduled to decided reunification. It was hoped that Washington could create a stable Sotuh Vietnam as an answer to Ho Chi Minh's communist North. Problem was Ho Chi minh according to Washington's own finds enjoyed 90% popular support.
So any election would reunify Vietnam under Ho Chi Minh NOT under the American backed government of the South. After all these people had been fighting the French who the US backed. How much support would you expect from any new government propped up by Washington?
Oh yes another reason Rolling Thunder was called off was because the North had finally acquired SAMs from the Soviets who had been reluctant to get involved prior to 1968.
In the modern period, war is always going to kill more people in the country it was fought. It will not cost more for the people coming in from overseas. This was true for WWI, 2, Korea and Iraq as well.
I'm afraid that is right, kirk. War is about achieving a political end through military means. Ultimately wasting 2-3 million Vietnamese did nothing to solidify the government of South Vietnam, which was corrupt ineffective, and illegitimate because the Vietnamese never voted for a partition or the creation of a South Vietnam.
Moreover, for all their losses, the North Vietnamese did not stop. Rolling Thunder was a bomibing campaign of the Ho Chi Mihn Trail.

Coming to the aid of another country is fighting for nothing? While those Marines/soldiers were in Vietnam they were fighting alongside and for the man on their side. Throwing their medals back at Washington is like stepping on the graves of their fallen brothers. Granted I was not there, but this is coming from the mouths of my father and his friends, Marines, who fought in Vietnam. I guarantee these hippies on this film grew up teaching their kids how bad America is.

What did we accomplish from that war other than losing alot of good men? were they really throwing their medals to do that or do you think it was out of hatred for sending them over there and making them watch their friends die? my grandfather was in that war when he got back he had lost his left eye and 3 fingers on his left hand he doesnt talk alot anymore but he raised my dad to be a fine US Marine. Those men are still vets i respect them highly for what they sacrificed.

It seems that veterans of that war come out with different opinions on whether or not we should have been there. I've been around the type that believe it was just, so of course, that is how I see it.

A lot of people who opposed and protested the war did so because they did not think Vietnam was important enough to send more and more young boys to get killed. The price the Vietnamese paid was also considered too high and the war dragged on and on without end in sight.
Most American soldiers fought with honor but it is a fact that crimes were committed.
Communism needed to stopped no question about that and the war played a part in the end of the Cold War in 1989.
It was a tragedy.

Most of the people who went to fight in Vietnam did so because their Dads and Granddads had fought in WW2 and WW1 and it was just considered the thing you did back then when the country called you to serve.
Most of the men who went there did so because they wanted to stop communism and most fought with honor.
But many others did not want to go but had no choice and some witnessed crimes or committed crimes themselves.
The anger of many people was only a natural reaction.

We did not come "in aid" of another country, in Vietnam, except only in the strictest sense of maintaining our puppet regime in the country.
We began by saturation-bombing South Vietnam in 1955 and later invading the country.
to crush the insurgency there. North Vietnam, and then Cambodia and Laos, didn't become targets till much later. around the time the anti-war movement finally started. But nobody teaches this in US history classes.

I don't blame these vets, they were just misguided. Drugs almost destroyed the U.S. in the late '60s and we are still battling them today. I actually feel sorry for these guys. Yes, it is true that the US did not want to see communism spread. BUT it is also true that the US fundamentally misunderstood what communism in Vietnam meant. Secretary of Defense Robert McNamara who oversaw the build up at the time said EXACTLY that, thet they misunderstood Ho Chi Mihn. They thought he ws a dupe of Russia and China and according to the idiotic domino theory, they would all form a bloc like eastern Europe.

Vietnam was one country before 1954. From 1945-1954 the US paid 80% of the French war effort to retake their colonies which they lost during WWII. So right there the US is fitting the bill of a repressive colonial regime.

When France was finally defeated at Dien Bien Phu in 1954 and told Washington the jig is up, the Eisenhower administration brokered an accord at geneva which divided the country whereupon an election was to be scheduled to decided reunification. It was hoped that Washington could create a stable Sotuh Vietnam as an answer to Ho Chi Minh's communist North. Problem was Ho Chi minh according to Washington's own finds enjoyed 90% popular support.

Oh yes another reason Rolling Thunder was called off was because the North had finally acquired SAMs from the Soviets who had been reluctant to get involved prior to 1968.
In the modern period, war is always going to kill more people in the country it was fought. It will not cost more for the people coming in from overseas. This was true for WWI, 2, Korea and Iraq as well.

I'm afraid that is right, kirk. War is about achieving a political end through military means. Ultimately wasting 2-3 million Vietnamese did nothing to solidify the government of South Vietnam, which was corrupt ineffective, and illegitimate because the Vietnamese never voted for a partition or the creation of a South Vietnam.
Moreover, for all their losses, the North Vietnamese did not stop. Rolling Thunder was a bomibing campaign of the Ho Chi Mihn Trail.

guys there's a charity going on for Vietnamese veterans in California please support their cause for the Vietnamese soldiers who fought alone side with the Americans. Who are strip of their identity in the own country, many of them are disable and are surviving on 50cent a day and using their broken limbs to eat please help donate to so-cal Vietnamese TV station (VHN-TV) in their cause, 1 dollar you can use to buy a drink but if you give that 1 dollar to a disable veterans it goes a long way.
