I went and saw this movie the weekend before 9-11 happened. After a week of doom and gloom, I went to see it again the following weekend. Still love it.

Indeed! That actor played a very tough character in the mid 70's classic "Hard Times" opposite Charles Bronson & James Coburn. His looks really changed from then to when he made this film...but there is a about a 25 yr time difference, so I suppose it's understandable.

If this film was made 10 years earlier, the perfect person to play Enid would have been, ahem, Janeane Garofalo. Can you see it? Nothing against Thora's portrayal, but Janeane's naturally wicked intelligence would have been sublime!

Rebecca is supposed to be a boring character. She was boring in the comics too. One of the main points of Ghost World, in both the movie and the comic, was how Rebecca ended up conforming and starting a "normal" or "average" life while Enid stayed herself was basically left behind.

This is a good film, but somewhat pretentious. In a good way nevertheless; I believe that the pretentiousness in the film was needed in order to convey the message that it gives your typical bourgeois audience. Nicely done for an American film that was made in 2001.
