My French isn't too amazing. Were there plays on words and such worked into the translation? Because the original was sweet and makes you smile but I wouldn't say it's funny. Is 'l'eclate' to come? And I thought 'crâmés' just meant burnt, why does that get such a laugh?
"cramés" means "burnt", but is colloquial/casual and is funnier than "charred" in English.
"L'éclate" is a sort of "slang" expression. "S'éclater" means "to have a blast".
A few expressions in this song are slang or sound funny, and I guess people just didn't expect Jay to say slang stuff in French, which surprised them. The surprise and excitement probably explain the spontaneous reponse from the crowd.
It was important to keep the same "tone" and the same "fun" feeling.
And if you search for the performance on the following day @ La Reine Blanche, you'll see it got way fewer laughs. The crowd was just more cheerful on the first night. I guess.
